I dont see computers on the network on the side bar in finder
Hi I am new to mac ( 2 days )
I am connected to a wireless network with a couple of pc's but I cant see them in the finder bar or any other network items....
I have enabled sharing on the Pc's and I can see the mac book on them and transfer files etc but cant see anything on the mac book
I am using OS X snow leopard
Can anyone help ?
Assuming that your settings are correct (see above), I decided to change something to see if I could get my smb shares to show up under Shared more consistently. Previously I had problems connecting with my iBook if it went to sleep. And, it too would disappear from Shared if it went to sleep. So, I did my best to keep all the machines from sleeping. Now, no machine has disappeared from Shared unless I let it sleep accidentally or intentionally. Note that there appears to be a positive correlation between (a) a share disappearing and the length of time a it has been asleep and (b) shares disappearing and the numbers of shares asleep. Of, course, this work around requires you to prevent sleeping on machines you think you will want to connect with in the "near" future.

Open AirPort Utility and click on the amber dot next next to the AirPort Express.
If you see an Update button click it.
Otherwise look at the information next to Status and click again on the smaller amber dot there. A window will open to explain why the AirPort Express is not happy along with some suggestions to remedy the "issue". -

I have an Airport network here in the office. All new Airport Extremes. The internet comes into one, which then connects to our switches, which then connects to other Airport Extremes over ethernet. Everything is setup to create its own network with the same SSID, and only the leader is the DHCP server.
I recently added an Apple TV to the network, only it was too laggy for video chat. I bought an Airport Express (for the audio), and ran ethernet to connect it to the network and the Apple TV, but things were still slow.
Now, I set the Airport Express up as a DHCP server (with NAT) itself, with a separate SSID, and it's working great. The only problem is that people would rather not have to switch wifi networks. Is there any way around this? BTW, the AirEx is complaining about Double NAT, which I understand is happening, but it's still working fine... it's really just the having to switch networks that's a problem for us.
Thanks!Hi - as you probably know, double NAT is not recommended - you might have problems with some websites and updating - but if it is working that is great - as far as the Wi-Fi issue is concerned, you should still be able to create a wireless network with the same name an password as the rest of your network so no one has to switch.

We are getting the following error when running our SSIS packages on Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1:
Error: 4014, Severity:20, State: 11. A fatal error occurred while reading the input stream from the network. The session will be terminated (input error: 109, output error: 0)
SQL Server Data Tools and SQL Server Database Engine reside on the same server.
We tried the following:
Disabling TCP Chimney Offload
Installed Windows Server 2008 SP1
Splitting our SSIS code into multiple steps so it is not all one large continuous operation
The error occurs during a BulkDataLoad task.
Other options we are investigating with the engineering team (out-sourced, so delayed responses):
Firewall configurations (everything is local, so this should not make a difference)
Disabling the anti-virus scanner
Are there other things we can try?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Based on the current information, the issue can be caused by many reasons. Please refer to the following tips:
Install the latest hotfix based on your SQL Server version. Ps: there is no SQL Server 2012 R2 version.
Change the MaxConcurrentExecutables property from -1 to another one based on the MAXDOP. For example, 8.
Set "RetainSameConnection" Property to FALSE on the all the connection managers.

My iphone 4s is no longer detecting wifi since the IOS8 updates came out. I've restarted, rest the networks, reset the phone back to factory settings, and even tried the freezer trick. It is STILL not detecting ANY wifi networks. HELP!!! I cannot afford to go over my data and I use wifi at home and work... I believe the updates have caused the issue, because it was working fine before the second update released (I hadn't put the first one one until I noticed it had stopped working, and by then the second IOS8 version had came out). They need to do a third update to fix this issue.
If it's grayed out:
Reset Network Settings - if that doesn't fix it, then Backup and Restore AS A NEW DEVICE.
If it's still grayed out, unfortunately that means your Wi-Fi antenna quit, and it needs service. -
First I got a wrong password for the network and the application error after a while that I wanted to enter the correct password no longerhave access to network settings
Unfortunately, it says I can't delete anything without the missing password.

Sounds like you are not able to connect to a Wi-Fi network with your iPad. This article has a section for Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network and the second article is the recommended network settings. If after these it still has the same issue you may want to restore the device to factory settings.

Hi everyone! WE just got an ipod touch 8G. We do have wireless internet, but can't join the network with the ipod touch. Message comes up.."unable to join the network".....very frustrating! I have a Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G wireless router and 2 Airport Extremes (the small ones that plug directly into the wall). Is it possible to extend the network from the router using these two AEs? I have a DVD player and Ext HD plugged into the router too. Any ideas? I'm guessing the only way is to do what I've seen in these community pages which states that it can be done but it will drop the bandwidth by 50%. Thoughts?? Thanks!
The Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G was one of the very few routers said to be compatible with Apple's implementation of WDS (Wireless Distribution System) settings.
The info that I have on file indicates that only the WRT-54G versions 4 and under were compatible, so that would be one bridge to cross.
Even if you find that your Cisco/Linksys might be the right version, Apple never published instructions on how to configure the Express devices with other manufactures, so users were left to their own devices to try to figure out how to get things working. Apple's instructions to connect to other Apple devices are in the link below:
WDS network
If you were hoping to use 2 Express devices in this type of configuration...even if it works...the bandwidth penalties will be extremely severe.
The first Express drops the bandwidth (and speed) on the entire network in half and the second halves everything again. So, the result, in effect would be a "g" wireless network running at 25% speed. Few users would consider installing this type of network.
At this point, it becomes one of those things where the fact that you might be able to do something does not mean that there would be much value in doing so. But, it is your decision to decide if you want to try to proceed. -

in order to resolve UNC names in absence of DNS server then the windows clients are using NETBIOS and the requests are sent to the broadcast all 255's address but these are are not forwarded by routers so you can use the ip helper-address command under each vlan interface going to the directed broadcast address like this:

Problems connecting 2 computers to wireless network at the same time

Having a slight problem with my home wireless network.. I am running Leopard 10.5.1 and my wife has Vista... For some reason we cannot connect to our wireless network unless one of the other computers is on and connected.. Example: I just opened my Macbook and it showed that I was connected.. However, I could not get any access to the internet without first turning my wifes computer on and connecting.. The same happens when my wife tries to get online.. Her laptop will not connect unless mine is connected first.. It is rather strange.. The last one on the internet is the only one with access unless the other computer is connected.. I am not sure if this is a problem with the router or a compatibility issue with Microsoft and Apple.. If anyone could help it would be highly appreciated as it is quite frustrating that when I want to connect to our network I must connect my wifes computer first.. and vice versa for her.. Can anyone help? We use a Belkin wireless router...For $50 or so you could get a Linksys WRT54G and not have the headaches. It cannot be an issue with the computers so by default it is the router. Get a better one.
A router will be indifferent to a computer connecting unless it is set to reject them with mac filtering, the password is wrong or there is a limit set to only issue one IP address in which case both would not work. The router cannot know XP from OSX, or a mac from Windows as the standard is 802.11 and TCP/Ip not brand specific.
