I do not quite understand your initial comment.  You write that you do not have the Adobe Reader add-on installed on IE10, yet PDFs open in IE?
See this article how to enable viewing PDFs in a browser; you will have to do it the other way around to see the opposite effect: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html

  • How can I silently print all PDF documents that are opened automatically?

For a special terminal PC I want to print all PDF's that are opened to be printed automatically and without user interaction. The PDF is loaded in an iFrame in the browser, this PDF then needs to be printed.
I don't want to modify the PDF's, the PDF's are supplied by another resource.
I was thinking about using a folder level script that prints each PDF document automatically as soon as it is opened, but I don't know how to accomplish this.

I don't think the installation process will allow that unless the printer is connected.
Incorrect. Win or Mac, you can install a printer driver w/o the printer being connected.
I have tried MS PowerPoint (which can't seem to accept paper wider than 56 inches) and have  used NeoOffice Draw
You're using the wrong tools. PP shouldn't even be in consideration; I don't know about NeoOffice, but I tried its cousin LibreOffice, and it has issues with custom paper sizes; which is not surprising, given what these apps were designed for.
What you need for actual banners (not web page banners) is a vector drawing tool or a DTP app. I'd say Illustrator or InDesign, but Adobe CS is expensive, and, if you're thinking of PowerPoint for this job, you're not ready for it.
You can try Pages; although not quite DTP, it can do the job and it's inexpensive. There are other options, such as Swift Publisher (a DTP app) or Intaglio (a drawing app) -- both are more expensive than Pages, but still affordable; or you can go open source with Scribus (DTP) or InkScape (vector; requires X11). You already know the ups and downs of using open source. (These are just examples; you can find others if you look for them.)
Although it's better to have Kinko's printer driver, to make sure of the correct options, you don't actually need it to print to PDF. You should be able to define a custom page size (eg, 12in × 72in) and create the PDF from it. Any app which uses the Mac OS X standard print function should be able to do it.

That hardware button can actually be toggled to work either as a mute button, or a lock orientation button. This can be edited at the settings screen.

  • Document will only open in read-only mode

I created a .pdf document from a Word document in Adobe Acrobat Professional 10.1.1. When I open the .pdf it will only open in read-only mode.  I want to change the security settings to prevent editing before I send it out but the File>Properties>Security>>Security Method is greyed out and set to "No Security."  I have tried certifying and signing the document and even placing in a secure envelope with no luck.
    Help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you Dave.
From MS Word, I am choosing Save as Adobe PDF.  In the Save window I reviewed the "Options..." and found PDF Options including
    Convert document information  (checked)
Create PDF/A-1a:2005 compliant file  (not checked)
Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF (checked)
    Apply Security (not checked)
    Create Bookmarks (checked)
    Convert Comments (not checked)
I checkmarked Apply Security and attempted to save the document, however, received the following error:
PDFMaker cannot apply security when PDF/X or PDF/A compliant job option is selected.
I do not have the Create PDF/A-1a:2005 compliant file box checked so I'm not sure why I'm getting that error.

  • Saving pdf document as microsoft word

How do I save a pdf file as a text or Word file if the original file was a scanned jpeg file of a typed page or page from a book? That is, I have a typed manuscript from before the computer era that was never digitally entered as text. Instead of retyping the whole thing, can I scan it and then somehow extract the text so that it can be save and edited as a text or Word file? I've heard it is possible to do this. Adobe's ad pitch for Acrobat 8 Professional seems to claim it can do this but it's not very clear.
It says: "Eliminate the need to rekey information. If you don't have the original file from which a PDF document was created, you can still leverage the text and graphics while preserving formatting and layout....With Adobe® Acrobat® 8 Professional software, you can save a PDF document as a Microsoft Word file and then edit directly in Word. This helps facilitate the reuse of content when you're starting a new project, or when you need to repurpose existing text and graphics for other projects."
Of course, if the pdf file was originally a text or Word file, even Acrobat Reader can do this, simply by hitting the "Save as text" button (though the original formatting may be lost). Is this what Professional means by "leverage the text"? That's useless for me. Or do they mean recognize and extract text from a jpeg file? If Acrobat Professional can do this, can Acrobat Standard also do it? Since this is the only function I really need, I wonder if there's a cheaper way to do it.
    I use a PowerBook G4 Mac with OS X 10.4.11 operating system.

OCR means "optical character recognition". When you have a scanned
page, there is no text in it, just a collection of dots which the
human brain can see as letters. Computers aren't as smart as the human
brain in this case, but OCR is the best it can manage: it uses
guesswork to try and find the letters. This sometimes works very well
(good, clean scan of clean first-generation later print), sometimes
very poorly (faxes, things which were ever saved as JPEG, poor scans),
sometimes it is hopeless (handwriting, web graphics).
Anyway, Acrobat can do OCR - see the help. Be sure to read closely
about the options, the default will not help you in this case.

  • Saving pdf documents in reader?

I can open and mark on pdf documents in the Adobe reader for ipad, but then when I click save it saves the marked up document over the original. Is there a way to do a save as or rename the document so it does not write over the original?  Also, how do you change the pen color from red?

    Hi Jeljohn,
    Thanks for contacting us.
Indeed there is way to save as (duplicate) the document. for this you have to tap on Document from left pane, then tap on "Edit" from right corner of toolbar , Select the file/files which you want to duplicate via the checkbox, then tap on 'two file icon'(second from the left). This will create the duplicate file of your original file named as "Original FIle Name(1).pdf" .
For Rename of the document follow same steps as above and after select the file for rename tap on 'Square icon with three dot' (second from right side/ next to trash icon), This will leads to appear rename dialog on the screen and finally enter desired name .
for change the pen color from red -> Tap on the comment (drawing) which you made , this will lead to bounding box with context menu, Select color from the context menu and choose the desired color.
I hope above will solove your all query. Let us know if you face any difficulty with this .
    Thanks

  • Saving PDF documents from websites

Previously with Windows XP and Adobe Reader 7, every time when I download a PDF document from the web, the window opened to the last directory I saved into. Since I have acquired a new notebook which runs on Vista (with SP1), I have downloaded Adobe Reader 9. Each time when I download a document, it returns to the root directory. As I classify the documents, I have to click through a series of directories before arriving at the last subdirectory. Instead of an improvement, it was a waste of time. To make things wores, sometimes, the directory name may have slipped my mind and I am lost.
    Please help, thanks,

  • PDF documents suddenly not opening in Firefox 3.5.6

I'm running Windows XP and using Adobe Reader 9.2 with Acrobat 6.0 installed.
In the last couple of weeks Adobe Reader has suddenly stopped opening some PDF documents (but not all) in Firefox 3.5.6.
The error message is attached.  "The Adobe/Acrobat Reader that is running cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit Adobe/Acrobat Reader and exit your web browser and try again".
Any ideas what has gone wrong?

  • PDF document looks different in Adobe Reader 8.1.2 than in Acrobat Standard 6.0.6

When I saved a PDF document in Acrobat Standard 6.0.6 and later opened it using Adobe Reader 8.1.2 it has stray characters (or rather little rectangles taking up the space of one text character) in different places on the page.
Opening the same document again in Acrobat verifies the document still looks like the original, but opening it again in Adobe Reader shows the stray characters or boxes.
What is causing the two programs to render the same document differently on the screen and in printouts?

I mean open first PDF file by mouse double click, then double click another PDF file, both are opened in 2 separate windows.

  • Saved .pdf files won't open

On MacBook Air running OSX Mavericks I've saved .pdf files from the Web and from documents I've scanned.  For many .pdf documents I get a dialog box that says, "Contact your computer or network administrator for assistance."
That's nice, but I'm the only one here.  These are important documents I’ve saved for a reason.  Any ideas how to get them open?

    Thanks for the suggestion.
After more poking around I discovered the Sharing & Permissions setting in the Get Info dialog box were set to No Access.  I have no idea how that happened, but next time I save a .pdf I'll find whether the setting is part of the Save As dialog or not.

  • MS Excel document as attachment to a PDF document does not open with a hot spot/link in the PDF

Hi, I have attached an excel file to a pdf document. I need to open this document in a new window by clicking an icon/hotspot in the pdf document to which it it attached.
I am using the Link Tool to create a hot spot around the icon in the pdf. In the next window I am using the Go to Page view option, opening the attachment to its first page and clicking the "set link" button.
For some reason, clicking the hotspot does not open the excel document as it does another pdf document.
Need help resolving this issue with attached documents.

Select a particular download file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window.  In the Open With section choose the desired default application from the dropdown menu then click on the Change All button.
For .dmg files use DiskImageMounter (System/Library/CoreServices/ folder.)
For .zip files use Archiver - same folder as above - or download TheArchiver - MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
