this just started w/ me yesterday. I was running 10.5.3, and nothing changed - the message just appeard out of nowhere. I update to the latest iTunes 10.6 but the message is the same.
Sounds like probably some sort of Library file corruption.
The two options available in the message box are "Download" and "Quit". Download is useless because I'm already running the latest. Quit is pretty useless.
I was going to just create a new Library and re-import all my music. Of course, all my iPhone sync settings are going go have to be recreated.

• Failed iTunes update - now I can't open iTunes at all

iTunes update on Windows 7 failed - laptop was accidentally shut down. Now I can't open iTunes - I get these messages:
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe
R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
and when I OK that there is a following message:
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.
Error 7 (Windows error 1114)
Unfortunately, for some reason my laptop will not allow me to uninstall iTunes (erroneously says I don't have administrative authority).
I've tried restoring the system to a date prior to the iTunes update but that hasn't worked either.
I'm not particularly computer savvy so is there anyone out there who can offer some advice please?

Hi there,
Earlier iTunes (and supporting applications) need to be completely uninstalled before you can install the new version. Here's the complete Apple info on this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Mobile device application will most likely fail to uninstall, so you would need to visit its location(s) and manually delete the files THEN folder(s). The location of the folders is documented in this link from Apple.

• I installed Mavericks a few days ago and downloaded all the available updates, which installed correctly (or so it says). Now I can't open my iPhoto app because it says it's being updated. Any suggestions?

There are two ways to recover from this condition.
1. Select
Store ▹ View My Account
from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. Stop or resume the download.
2. Open LaunchPad and find the icon of the app you're trying to install. There will be a small progress bar below it. Click the "X" to stop the download.

• HT1926 Latest iTunes software wont completely download and now I can't open iTunes at all?

Hi! I really hope someone can help me with this-
iTunes just had a popup that there was new software to install, so I chose the update to iTunes. The download was almost finished, but then it stopped and said there was a problem with the download (obviously) and to try to install it from within the program. Fine by me. Only, I can't open iTunes now?? It tells me that, "The item refered to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions."
I'm not even going to try and pretend that I know what that means, lol. I searched my entire computer for iTunes and every shortcut/folder/etc with 'iTunes' in it gives me an error message of some sorts. D:
I even tried to re-download iTunes from this site, but it gets halfway and then gives me error message 2324.
What do I do from here? I really don't want to uninstall iTunes (if it even still exists on my computer) because I'm afraid I'll all the modified song information that I just spent literately hours updating last week. >_<

Similar problem here. iTunes11 notified me it was available. However, auto-update failed. So, I downloaded for manual update. That failed with "permission" message. I am administrator on this machine (WIN7). I tried uninstalling old version, but it failed with same permission issue. I now can't start iTunes... throws permission message. So, I'm completely dead in the water. Does this stuff get tested before it's shipped?

Hello bajura007,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update. I recommend following the steps below:
Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
When you get to the step to uninstall iTunes, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.

• Hv first version of iPad , it's upgraded upto 5.0. Now I hv iPad 2. Both Hv iCloud, but my songs from old iPad r not getting shifted in my iPad 2. Can't open iTunes Store in both devices. Help.

Hi! I hv both 1st ipad& ipad2. I hv some music in my 1st iPad, that is not transferred in my new ipad2 via iCloud. Can' t open iTunes stores.

Just think of the third problem. I can't do backup neither, so I dare not restore my iPad to its default as I didn't do the backup the moment before upgrading it to iOS 7 (which I regret very much now). I have trusted Apple for years and didn't think of such problems could happen after iOS upgrade.

• I tried to download the new verison of itunes and now i can't open itunes. it says error 126. what do i do?

How do i fix error 126?

I Had this problem along with the error message that it's missing the driver GNSDK_DSP.DLL. I am Windows XP and fixed the error by going to Start>My Computer>Add or Remove Programs
When the Add or Remove programs list is "populated", Find iTunes on it. Click the link that says "For more information" and the iTunes box will expand. You will see a button that says "Repair" and it says to reinstall the program if it is not working correctly, use the "Repair" button. I clicked the Repair button and it automatically started the reinstall. When all the progress bars disappear (it doesn't really give you any other indication that its done) click the "close" button and try to open iTunes again. It worked first time for me. I also saw another forum where someone said it worked for the other Windows versions by following the same route, just that in other windows versions it might be "Computer" instead of "My Computer" and the Add or Remove Programs function is also called something else. Hope this helps somebody having this problem. It drove me crazy finding the answer, but the fix was super simple once I found out what to do.

if no joy with beau's suggestion, try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

• Help! i'm a senior citizen! did an update to my macbook, had a few problems, now i can't open itunes.

help! Senior citizen needs rescued! When i opened iTunes to sync my Mini a window popped up on my MacBook saying i had a software update. I clicked on it to start the update. Another window popped up with a yellow triangle with exclamation point saying to close iTunes. I closed iTunes but the yellow triangle message remained. Meanwhile the update continued with the progress bar moving as usual, but wouldn"t finish the last 1/8 inch or so. Several hours later, progress bar was all the way to the right, but didn't say complete, or disappear. So i shut down the computer. When i turned the Mac back on, i tried to access iTunes on the desktop and nothing happens. how do i get itunes to operate again?

See if you can download and reinstall iTunes > Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now
By the way, when you see a dialog telling you to close iTiunes, it means to actually quit the application, not just close the iTunes window. You can quit an application by pressing Command + Q on your keyboard or from the iTunes menu bar click iTunes > Quit iTunes then you can proceed.
