I downloaded Adobe Reader now I am unable to open certain pdf files
I downloaded Adobe Reader and now I am unable to open the majority of the pdf. files from the internet. Has this happened to anyone else and if so how did you resolve the issue?
Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

HThis situation is started after I clear the pop up advertisement.
What kind of advertisement? In Adobe Reader? Can you post a screenshot of that: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1070933
Regarding the crash, can you try disabling Protected Mode through the registry: download, unzip, then run the registry script https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/49eeb48b-07c5-4502-984c-8a25259914fa -
I'm having difficulty viewing pdf documents because I'm required to download Adobe Reader. I did download that application, but the same message recurs repeatedly. What shall I do to resolve the problem?
You don't provide any details, but from the sound of it you are trying to open an online PDF in a browser that does not use the Adobe Reader plugin: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

Adobe Reader 9 installed but can't open any pdf. file now
I have been successfully using the Acrobat Adobe 8 with no problem until trying to download the Adobe Reader 9.
I run on Windows XP. Ever since downloading Adobe Reader 9....I can no longer use Acrobat Adobe at all. I can not
read or open any Acrobat Adobe files .pdf no matter what application was used in creating them or rather they were created by me or someone else.
I get the error message that Adobe encountered a problem and had to close. Someone PLEASE help.Repairing Acrobat after removing Acrobat Reader worked for me in the past. I would try that first before removing Acrobat.

After up grading to Adobe Reader XI why can't I open any PDF files?
I am running windows vista and had been using Adobe Reader 8 - when I upgraded, can not open any PDF files. When I attempt to open a PDF file, I receive the following messages:
Update available
Please take a few seconds to update Adobe AIR and get the very latest features. Acrobat.com cannot continue until you update Adobe AIR.
after attemptng to down load the "update" I receive the following message.
Sorry, an error has occurred
This application requires an update to Adobe AIR but downloading that update was not successful.
I have uninttalled all of my Adobe freeware & reinstalled statring with "adobe AIR" then "adobe Reader" and then attempted to opne a PDF file only to see the same message

I have already been there done that. I first Un-installed all of my adobe freeware (reader, flash player, air. etc) then started reinstalling. First I reinstalled reader (latest version Reader X), same error messages. added AIR (latest version not listed - Last updated April 1st, 2012 -
maybe that should tell me something), same error messages. I un-installed these two and reinstalled AdobeFlash Player,Adobe Shockwave Player,&Adobe Media Player, verifying that each worked after each reinstall of the next program everything was OK until I put Reader back on (NOTE: I dug all the way back to version 8 & still had the problem). for some unknown reason I finally right clicked on a PDF file on my desk top & was greeted with a the drop menu & he option of "open with" for fun I clicked on the "open with" & found that I had two options the first was a white Icon with the Stylized A and labeled Acrobat.com the second was the normal red Icon we all know & live
when I reset the default to the normal red Icon everything began to work just as I have always had adobe reader work. Now I have no clue how or when I picked up the "Acrobat.com" program even worse it does not show up under programs on the control panel. When I have a few moments this evening, I will run a search for "Acrobat.com" & hopefully be able to remove it from my computer.
Bottom line I don't know how I got the program which seems to have caused the breakdown of adobe reader but by resetting the default program to open PDF files it is now working as it should
Thanks for the suggestion.
Sincerely,
Richard L. Cornick

I have a Mac OS X and I'm trying to download Adobe Reader 11 and it won't open.
I have a Mac OS X and I'm trying to download Adobe Reader 11 and it won't open. I get it installed, however, when I click on the icon nothing opens. Please help!
Download AppZapper (it's a free trial - but once you see how it works, you'll agree it's worth the $12.95 to buy)
Install it and open it.
Drag the Reader.app from your Applications folder onto the AppZapper window
"Zap" the file and all asociated files.
Close AppZapper
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
If the AdobePDFviewer.plugin or AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files are present, trash them
Empty the trash
Download the Reader Installer again: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Mount the DMG and run the installer.
Launch Reader 11 from your Applications folder and accept the license agreement
Reader will run properly from here on out. -

Reader X Unable to Open certain PDFs
Ok so heres there issue..
A client of my company is unable to open what seems to be random PDF files which are sent to them, after doing some testing I found a very strange bug.
While running Windows XP - I am able to open any PDF file from an outlook email attachment so long as it is stored in memory (select the open option instead of save as). This works with Reader X, Reader 9.x, and Acrobat Pro.
While running Windows XP - After saving any PDF document to my hard drive from an outlook email attachment I am unable to open the PDF file using Reader X. Reader 9.x and Acrobat Pro both open the files without a problem.
This poses a major issue because we cannot control what version of Reader our clients use and if they are unable to open PDF documents that are saved to their hard drives from emails using Reader X what do you suggest we do?
Note: I don't believe this is related to the known Reader X issue where people cannot open PDFs from a web page.
Any help or troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.i too have problems with reader x. in hotmail
i can open any pdf but when displayed the documents
are in computer code. only microsoft office doc
uments are opened in a readable format.
this problem on ly started after installing latest versio

Reader 10.1.1 won't open internet PDF files
I downloaded and installed the free Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.1 I am unable to open any PDF files online. When I click on a PDF file link I get this message:
There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (103:103)
It is not open and I only use it when I have to open a file that is online. I deleted and reinstalled and still have the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My system:
Dell Dimension desktop computer
Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3
DSL internet connectionHave the same problem and, while not a total solution, offer a work-around that might help you temporarily.
And, yes, I'm running XP SP3 as well, so.....
1.) Find the folder where the Reader X lives (on my system - /Windows/Program Files/Adobe/Reader 10.0/Reader).
2.) Locate AcroRd32 - the file with the Adobe icon.
3.) Right click and go to Properties.
4.) Set Campatibility to *Windows2000*
Reply "OK" to everything and try opening your file(s) again......
Now, you'll still get the Error message initially, and intermittantly, but the PDF window won't close; you can read the document and saving the file still works.
Again, it's not a fix, kinda cludgy, but it got me back on track even tho the message popping up is an annoyance.
Maybe Adobe will fix it as I've seen several folks here with similar experiences. -

According to your User Agent you posted this question using Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1. Are you having a problem with Firefox? What Firefox version?
You said you are having a problem opening PDF files on your system. Can you explain that better? Mozilla Support can help you with opening PDF files in Firefox, which uses a built-in PDF reader. Maybe one of these articles will help?
* [[View PDF files in Firefox without downloading them]]
* [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]]
