I downloaded Firefox 4 and now I have a Google Redirect Virus!

My host files were cleaned out when I installed Firefox 4 and I now have a Google Redirect Virus!
Please Help!
Spybot & Avast can't fix the problem!

I know you guys won't think this is a Firefox issue but my host file list blocked some of the bad websites and that host file that I had set up was cleared, unbeknownst to me, and let in a Google Redirect Virus.

  • I just downloaded firefox 5 and now I have no search bar in the top right. How do I get it back?

After restarting the computer when firefox 5 had been downloaded the search bar in the top right is now missing.

See if it is on the Customize Toolbar window. If so, while the Customize Toolbar window is open, drag it to the location you want it. To open the Customize Toolbar window, do one of the following:
*click Firefox button > Options > Toolbar Layout
*using the Menu Bar: View > Toolbars > Custonize
*HOLD down the ALT key while pressing the keyboard letters VTC
*right-click on a blank space on a toolbar or at the end of the Tab Bar and choose "Customize".
If "Search" is not on the Customize Toolbar window, click "Restore Default Set" at the bottom of the Customize Toolbar window and look again.

    Question
I have just downloaded Firefox 4 and my autofill on the google toolbar is not working for any webpages it previously worked with. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks

Crap. That's what I was afraid of...Well, since I'm away from home and not near my pc, it sounds like I'm out of luck. The problem is that I need my phone to be at least functional for making and receiving calls. There's an apple store nearby. Perhaps I can go there and have them restore it and at least I'll be able to make and receive calls until I get home and restore from my backup. Does that sound feasible, or am I missing something?
P.s. I tried to click "correct answer" and accidentally hit "helpful". Sorry about that...

  • Downloaded firefox 5 and now screen is black except for toolbar

My laptop has windows XP. I downloaded Firefox 5 and my screen is black except for the toolbar. It doesn't matter which site I try to get to, the screen is still black. I had to go to my IGoogle homepage an access the help link because once I go back to Firefox, black screen again. I never had this problem until I upgraded to 5. Any help would be appreciated or I will have to go back to the older version of Firefox.

  • I have a Google redirect virus which redirects every hit I click on in every search engine, in every browser, to a completely unrelated website. No anti-virus software I've tried can get rid of it. Help.

''Locked due to age. If you still have a problem, please [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new start a new thread]''
Basically the Google redirect virus is caused by a trojan with rootkit capability, and so whenever I click on a link on Google, it redirects me to a completely unrelated site. I think I got it on there because of downloading pirated software (patches, cracks, keygens) to avoid paying: so stealing software didn't pay off :(
I know you guys aren't specialised in internet security, but can you help?

There seems to be more than one, possibly several malware objects that can cause Google search redirects in both Firefox and Explorer... some result in multiple infected files and are self- regenerating. I tried rootkit, gooredfix, tdskiller and every other tool I could download... several times I was certain it was gone but it always came back! If you want to kill this thing for good, combofix is the only thing that removes ALL of the infected elements. Combofix takes a long time to run (circa 30 min?) and requires some user input and also messes with your system settings a little but it is VERY thorough and it does work and best of all, it's free.

  • I downloaded Firefox 4, and now it doesn't work at all. Tells me I have it set to 'work offline'. NOT How do I get back to the last Firefox 3?.

I don't have any idea where to change 'work offline'. Have never set it for that. just get me back to the previous version of Firefox.
It started as soon as I downloaded vers 4, and restarted computer. No Firefox.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention using facetime.

  • Downloaded Firefox 4 and now I can't get rid of the disk image.

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 on my Mac (Intel-based laptop) a week or so ago, followed the directions (moved the one image to the applications folder image), but now it won't let me get rid of the disk image. Trash won't let me empty it since Firefox is using it, and if I quit Firefox to do that , another one appears when I relaunch the program. Applications folder has Firefox 4.0 in it, but I can't make this annoying .dmg go away. What to do?

Try to trash the current Firefox application and do a new installation.
    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • I downloaded Firefox 5 and now it won't open at all.

The other day, I was prompted to download Firefox 5. I did so, and now the program won't even open. I've tried restarting my computer as well as turning it off completely; no dice. I had clicked the "restart Firefox" option after it finished installing, but nothing happened.

Are you getting any error messages?

  • I downloaded Firefox 4 and now Firefox doesn't offer to restore my session after I've rebooted. I really liked that feature of Firefox. How do I get it back?

I was happy with Firefox as it was. I had the latest version and it worked perfectly. Then I was notified by Firefox that I should update to Firefox 4. If I'd known it would wipe out my cookies and would not include my "restore session" button that I liked so much, I would not have downloaded Firefox 4. It doesn't offer to restore my browsing session after I reboot and I can't find a way to tell it to do that. Please fix this ASAP and tell me how to make it work on my computer! Thanks.

  • Ever since I downloaded Firefox 4 (and now Firefox 5), I get two error messages when the auto-update tries to run.

The two messages are as follows: "Something is preventing Firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox from: http://www.firefox.com " and the second message, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help." I have made sure that I have the newest version of Firefox, downloaded from cnet.com. Can anyone explain this problem?

Try to trash the current Firefox application and do a new installation.
    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Downloaded Firefox update and now will not open.

For months I was prompted to download the update. I finally
did so this morning. After the reboot, I went to Firefox
with no problem, then closed the program. Later I clicked the
Icon to go back in, and it would not reload. The activity bar
and task manager icon showed the usual start-up activity, but
stopped with no Firefox loaded. Many unsuccessful attempts
    since.

    Do a clean (re)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
