So, you pirated the software, which is stealing. Then you have the brass neck to come looking for help from people who are not thieves because you can't actually steal very well. And to crown it all, you come to a site hosted by the people you are stealing from.
You don't get help with stolen property here.
Also, you have to be an extraordinary idiot to install pirated software on your Mac. You have no idea what you have put on there, how it has been hacked or manipulated.
So, a thief and an idiot too.

Hi, Yes you are correct in iPhoto Prefernces, Advanced tab editing I used to have iPhoto and "Use external editor.". It changed to iPhoto and iPhoto Library. I have einstaleed PSE 9 and downloaded the update. There is still no lkink to external editor in the drop down box. Have I done something wrong inadvertently or is there a clitch? can you reinstal iPhoto. I am new to Macs. Every thing came preinstalled. it is the top of the range system with 16 Gb of rRAM, 2 Tb hard drive to top graphics card etc. I used to be on Windows PC. Have more than 27,000 photos on the system. You could, but the error message is indicating that your iPhoto library needs repairing.
Check, if iPhoto will run, if you launch it on a new library. Hold down the alt/option key, while you launch iPhoto. Select to create a new library from the panel that will show. Can you create a new library? If yes, try again to fix the library. Which options have you tried from the Library First Aid panel, when you launched iPhoto with the option and command key held down?
If you have not tried "Rebuild"; do that next. But be sure to make a backup of your iPhoto library, before you try this.

I hate the new downloads-in-a-tab scheme. This was an unnecessary change in my book (if it aint broke, don't "fix it").
So in order to get it back, I performed the about:config browser.download.useToolkitUI change, but now all I get is a blank download window that pops up every time I download something.
Is there something else that I need to do? I've checked the change and it was saved, but it didn't resolve my issue as much as it just caused me a new issue.

I tried it and nothing changed. Even when I right click on an indiviual image all it does is duplicate it. Iphoto seems to be recognizing my external hard drive as an editor......cannot get photoshop except to drag a picture into photoshop from iphoto, and once I have worked on it and saved it to iphoto I cant find it anywhere.

If you continue having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
followed by Enter.
launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:

Are your photos RAW?
We need some more clues to be able to see why Aperture and iPhoto are not opening.
To find out, if some preference setting in your user account is causing this, log into a different user account and try to launch aperture from there. (Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support)
If Aperture or iPhoto will not launch in a different user account, boot into Safe Mode and launch iPhoto in this mode. This will disable non-standard system extensions and advanced features of the graphics card. Aperture may not work in this mode, but iPhoto should. See: Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
To get more clues, open the Console.app before trying to launch iPhoto and check for iPhoto related, new diagnostic messages. The Console.app is in the Utilities folder in applications.

I chose a picture to print, but instead of a print dialogue box, the screen went grey and iPhoto will not respond. I have even shut down my iMac completely, but when I relaunch iPhoto, I get the same screen (grey with the spinning "thinking" icon). I am running the latest version of Yosemite on the iMac.
