Now, I got frustrated that neither iTunes nor my iPhone do anything. I need my iPhone to get it back to work regardless if it's back to the last version of iOS.

I just encountered this problem for the first time and stumbled upon this forum to find a solution. I played around with it a bit and it seems that if you slide your finger from the bottom up, you will come upon that new screen that will allow you to do various functions with your phone (put it in airport mode, lock, etc.), you can select your Airport from this screen and play your music wirelessly from your phone; at least this was my experience. I have the same question, but can you clarify something please. I have about 10 apps showing in the apps section of iTunes - all of which I am happy to have on my iphone - but NOT on the Touch.
1. How do I 'delete' the apps wrongly synched to the Touch, and
2. For the future, when I download an app. hor do I ensure it is only synched with the iphone and not the Touch. I have very space left on the Touch and don't want to clutter it with unwanted apps.

Did you restore the iPhone after Sprint told you that the unlock request had been processed? That's necessary to complete the unlock.

Basically, what happened above is what happened. My iPod wasn't connected to anything, and it spontaneously dumped everything except the games: videos, songs, etc.
When I tried to sync it to my computer, it wouldn't hook up, and I'm not entirely sure why. It has an error code, I believe, but I can't remember what it is. I brought it in to a Mac store to see if they could get it fixed up for me, but they had no idea what the error code meant. I'll try to look it up as soon as I can.

The downloaded file is probably stored at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates. In general it is probably best to "download and install" updates than download and then install later. Note that you cannot revert to the older firmware if you don't like the update, even if you have the old .ipsw files.

Does your phone work? If so there is a version of iOS on your phone. The phone cannot work without it because iOS is the operating system your phone uses to run.
To update your iOS to the latest version for your device go to Settings > General > Software Update
That will tell you if there is an update available for your phone. I always suggest making a backup of your phone before updating.
If the update option does not appear in Settings then you have an older version of iOS that requires updating while connected To the computer you normally sync with and running iTunes.
