Why do you think Mountain Lion is a disaster? Perhaps you could explain what problems you are having?
You cannot reinstall Snow Leopard unless you have the proper installer disc for your computer. You will need to wipe your drive in order to install Snow Leopard.
Boot from the Snow Leopard disc.
After you select your language select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu in the menubar at the top of the screen.
User Disk Utility to erase your hard drive.
Quit Disk Utility to return to the installer.
Install Snow Leopard.
Update Snow Leopard by downloading and installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Supplemental Update.
You cannot reinstall Lion at this point unless you have kept a copy of the Lion installer application or can re-download the installer from your previous purchases in the App Store.
