I downloaded the latest itunes version while my ipod 4 touch was plugged into my usb port on my laptop. After it downloaded on my computer the ipod froze and it shows a picture of a usb cable, and an arrow pointing to the itunes symbol.

i tried to restart and re download everything and it still is doing the same thing. this keeps happening alot and i have to end up taking the ipod to the apple store to have them erase everything on my ipod to restart it. is there anything i can do at home to fix it

Have you tried to put the device into DFU mode?
To put the device in DFU mode,
1. Connect the device to iTunes
2. Hold both the power button and the home button down simultaneously
3. After 10 seconds, release the power button but leave the home button pressed
4. iTunes should then recognize that the device has entered DFU mode and ask to restore.
I hope that helps.

Yes you can drag and drop music to the iPiod if you select Manually Manage Music and Videos in  iTunes.

You do not drag the music to put it on the iPod, you click into the iPod tab and sync it with your library.

I bought a new ipad2 yesterday and charged the battery and then expected to get going with it but the screen only displays an image of a ubs connection with an arrow pointing to a itunes symbol.  I downloaded itunes on a PC and plugged in the ipad to it but nothing changed on the PC or ipad.  very frustrating.  anyone else experience this or have know how or ideas to help me?

Here is my standard reply, some of which may have no relevance to your situation.  Start with trying different USB ports, even a numbe of times.
    1. Make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
    2. Try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
    3. Make sure your lead /connections are not faulty.
    4. If you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
    5. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
    6. If using Widows, make sure all Windows Updates are installed.
    7. Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 for Windows and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 for Macs
    8. And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -

  • Upgraded my 4s to 7.1.2 iOS and when I turn on I get the white apple screen and then it changes to a 30 pin connected with an arrow pointing to an iTunes logo, before shutting down.

what procedures do I need to follow to get my phone up and running? I had a similar experience last year with my iPad 2 and had to reload everything, except I wasn't doing an upgrade at the time. When I plug my 4s into my charger the screen shows the connector and iTunes logo. I have tried to reboot several times without success.

Correct.  Everything  is already lost if it's in recovery mode.  You can restore a backup after restoring the phone.

  • Upgraded my iPad with the iOS 8.3 software.  This morning, the iPad has low battery, even though it was plugged into the power source.  It's now plugged in, but I don't think it's charging. I have a black screen and nothing else! Any thoughts? Thanks

My iPad was upgraded to iOS 8.3 software while plugged in.  This morning, the battery is almost dead, and I have a black screen.  Not sure the iPad is even charging! Any thoughts on what to do? Thanks.

The update is iOS 8.1.3 not iOS 8.3.
Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • ITunes 8.1 freezes when iPod touch is plugged in, unfreezes when pluggedout

I've just updated my iPod touch 1st gen to 2.2.1, it was working and syncing perfectly for two days. This morning, when the iPod touch was plugged into iTunes, iTunes froze when the iPod was recognized by the computer. I tried plugging the iPod touch out of the computer, and iTunes almost instantly went back to functioning correctly.
If I attempt to start iTunes with the iPod already plugged in, it starts up frozen and does not function. I have to use Task Manager to manually quit the process every time.
This is all still strange since the only thing different I did from last night is download several podcasts and update one app. I've tried deleting these podcasts and uninstalling the app, but to no avail.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dave,
Try putting the iPod into recovery mode and restoring it in iTunes as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
This would erase the contents of the iPod but you can check iTunes for a backup before restoring from recovery mode. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 provides more information about iPhone backups.

  • HT201210 My iphone had an error while updating. Now it is stuck with a picture of  a usb cable & an arrow pointing to the itunes logo. I can`t get itunes to recognize the device

I just bought my iphon last night & tried doing it`s first update this morning. I got an error message that the update failed & now my iphone only shows a pic of a usb cable with an arrow pointing to the itunes logo.
I already tried holding down the on off buton & the home button like the instructions say. Problem is that when the instructions say I should be at the part where itunes is again recognizing my iphone, my itune is not recognizing my iphone. So I am stuck. I follow the instrustions, but the resluts are different, so I can`t continue to the next step. Very frustrated, as the nearest Apple store is over an hour`s drive away.

Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer. Hold both home and power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the Firmware. If the process Errors again, write down the error message and error #, on paper so you can solve the problem. If there are serious problems, all iPhone 4S have full warranty coverage with Apple.

  • HT201210 on my iPad I get an image of the USB connection and an arrow pointing to the itunes icon for a few seconds then it switches off.  connected  to itunes via USB get a message that itunes has detected an ipad in recovery mode must restore when i do

When I havent got my ipad connected to a power supply I get an image on my ipad of the usb cable with an arrow pointing to a itunes icon and no matter what you try and do iyt stays on that for a few seconds and then switches off the ipad, connecting it through usb into itunes on my PC (XP) this image says on the screen but I get a message on itunes saying itunes has detected an ipad in recovery mode and mneeds to be restored - when I fire off the restore through itunes after a few minutes it comes back and says it cannot restore and give an error message 1603.  I have also repeated the process through my wife's laptop (Vista) and get the same situation -it is an 32GB Ipad 3 purchased last November -  any ideas ?

Try and turn off iPad/iPod and proceed to step 3 of Recovery Mode.
    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

When i try connecting to itunes on my laptop it still doesnt program, by the way my itunes has the latest updae. Why is this? How can i fix it?

    Hey there Raymondd2014,
It sounds like you had been updating the phone and now it is in recovery mode. Take a look at this info first:
If you started your device in recovery mode by mistake, restart it to exit recovery mode. Or you can just wait—after 15 minutes the device will exit recovery mode by itself.
If you are unable to get out of Recovery Mode, use the following article to restore your device with iTunes:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you don't see your device in iTunes follow these steps for Windows.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling
