The salt in seawater is highly corrosive to the part inside the iPhone
I suggest you take it to Apple and pay for an out of warranty replacement

• My iPhone was stolen and I have contacted the police who are using the meid number to locate.  How does this work and what are my chances of getting the phone back?

My iPhone was stolen.  I used Find My iPhone app to lock it and display a message.  The phone has not connected to the internet to locate it.  I contacted the police and they have taken my meid number.  How does this work and what are my chances of getting the phone back?  Are there other ways the theif can use it.  I was told once they put in a new sim card and use it, whatever software the police have, it will show up.

Honestly? In the US (I can't speak to other countries, though I doubt it works much differently in a lot of the world) The police took your report and filed it either in their computers or, on paper. They will now not think of this again. The only time it will cross anyones mind is if, in the course of entering information into evidence about items recovered or seized at a crime scene, the serial number of an iPhone that was found/seized happens to match yours, in which case you will be contacted.
The police in the US can and will do nothing to 'blok' the phone and it's not worth their time to try and locate it unless you know for a fact that it was stolen by a big time drug lord, master criminal, or some other such prime target and they can get a court order to track the location of the phone in order to locate this individual for your own purposes.  If they do that, they'll probably keep him under surveilance for a year or so before they act.
Basically, the police don't care about your phone. If they find it, they will give it back to you. They are not, however, going to go looking for it. They have better things to do.
I'm sorry, but that's the way it is.

• I trashed my phone in the pool, what are my options?

I trashed my phone in the pool, what are my options?

You will have to see if it's eligible for out of warranty serivce
http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/contact/
Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
iPhone model
Out-of-Warranty Service
iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS,
iPhone 3G, Original iPhone
$199
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if you arrange service online or by calling Apple Technical Support. All fees are in U.S. dollars and are subject to local tax.
When setting up out-of-warranty service, Apple will request credit card pre-authorisation for the maximum service fee listed above.  This amount will be deducted from your credit limit. The final service fee we charge will be determined during testing and may be less than the service fee listed above.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPhone that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.

Thanks for the welcome Karsten! I’ve checked the installer disks – which appear to have all the main pieces of software, but not iDVD. If you or anyone knows where it might be hidden that would be great. Thanks for all the other info too!
Thanks Lennart – I don’t think my computer could support iLife ’05 as it is running Mac OSX 10.3.2 and I’ve just been looking at its system requirements which state it requires 10.3.4 minimum – if you know differently, please let me know. As an alternative I have considered getting iLife ’04, but your comment about iLife ’05 being the first version to support external drives worried me (“iDVD 5 is the first iDVD version that officially supports external burners“ does this mean there is an unofficial option for iLife ‘04? Perhaps a patch similar to the one mentioned by Karsten), does that mean iLife ’04 would not support an external Lacie DVD writer?
What is the earliest version of Toast I’d be able to use (as a money saving option!)?
Thank you both, and apoligies for my amateurish questions…

• Performance limitations on the CSS - What are they ?

Hi, we have two CSS11503 and two 11050 boxes which we think could be hitting the limits in how much traffic, concurrent connections etc they can handle.
Does anyone have a link to the Cisco figures for what these boxes can handle, and is there a way to get this info from the boxes ?
cheers,
Mike

Mike,
the drop counter in the flow stat increases when there is no FCM memory available. No if the box is overload.
For your cpu issue, you may check 'sho ip stat' to see what amount of traffic you get.
There is the possibility of a process going crazy and consuming all CPU, but I do not think you would have both SCM and SAM running very high at the same time.
You can do a 'cpu hog 1' to see the most recent process. Do it several times.
If the same process comes again and again that's the one consuming the CPU.
If it is something like tFlowMgrPktRx it means you are simply receiving a lot of traffic.
Is your content rule affecting the box a L7 rule ? If yes, try to make it L3/4 to see if that helps. Just to confirm this is related t o traffic.
Gilles.

• Drop Column Field and Drop Row Fields in the Details Field area in the Cube Browser of BIDS/SSDT 2012

Hello. When I right click a cube in the solution explorer and click browse, I am presented with a Details field area which doesn't have "Drop Row Fields" area like in BIDS 2008, and doesn't have "Drop Column Fields" area like in BIDS. It just has one details
area with the message "Drag levels or measures here to add to the query".
How do I include the  "Drop Row Fields" area and the  "Drop Column Fields" area in this Details area so it can be like 2008?

I am using MDX query to build SSRS report.
How do i get MDX query from Excel ?
Hi Vishal,
We can use "OLAP PivotTable Extension" to get MDX query in Excel, please download it from:

In addition, I would suggest you open a new case if you have any more questiosn.

• After the latest update I see little arrows on some tabs, above the X. What are they?

They look like small fish hooks. They appear and disappear depending on what tab I have selected; otherwise they do nothing and have no Tooltips.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
:
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

• We transferred purchases / synced an iPod touch to a toshiba laptop, and then updated the ipod. we can no longer put the files back onto the ipod. what are we doing wrong]

we transferred purchases and synced from a iPod touch to a toshiba laptop, after it updated and synced again we have been unable to put the files back onto the ipod. the computer will not let us drag or copy paste files, and when we tried to " export" the library to the documents folder, it only showed up in code.  we have books and music we would like to reload to the ipod.

Hello Jean164,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are unable to manually put your content back on your iPod Touch.
It seems like you may need to re enable Manually Manage Music now that the device has been updated, and this article should help with that.

• Changing user store - what's the impact, what are the pitfalls?

Dear all,
we're thinking into moving the userstore from portal DB to ABAP backend (or maybe to LDAP). I could not find any valuable documentation regarding aspects like complexity, costs, required ressources, impacts, and pitfalls, regarding portal content.
Now I got told that especially content managament (KM) could be a source of serious problems becaus of documents being linked with old unique user-ids, which after moving the user store wouldn't be valid any longer.
Installed version is EP 7.0 w/ EHP4.
Has anyone already tried this, or has other experience with this matter?
Thanks in advance,
Chris.

Dear Christoph,
About which change i would switch to ldap because if you change to abap then never return back, And besides, would have access to the portal synchronized with the network, and users only handle a username and password.
With regard to the problems this can bring if you keep the user id equal you don't have problems, but if you change it you loose the reference to their things stores.
Regards.

• What are my chances (messed up Macbook pro)?

While I was in the middle of the first question on a statistics test my Macbook pro froze.    I ended up having to hold the power button until it restarted and when it did turn back on it only would go to the disk utility screen and is taking forever to do anything.  It says the hard drive needs to be repaired, but I left the repair on overnight and it still is on the same item.
So, I bought a new computer and am wondering what you guys think the chances are that the genius bar people can obtain my data.  I am a fool and haven't backed up the computer since February (I know, I know ) so at least I can get some of it back.  Any ideas?

well, if you're technically capable - take the hard drive off your Macbook Pro - install it in a usb enclosure (about $10) - once installed - connect it to your new computer and see if you can retrieve your data that way.  hopefully it's another Macbook Pro since windows will not be able to read it.
if it doesn't work that way - then put the hard drive back into your macbook pro and see if Apple can retrieve it for you.
good luck - hope you get it sorted out.

• What are my chances for QS approval in 6 months?

I am over 2 years post BK. I have 3 Cap One cards. Platinum which I've had for 2 years, Journey 1 year and Playsation 5 months. I have zero utilization and TU 679 EQ 684 EQ 655. I do have a handful of recent inquiries and new accounts though. Do I have a chance of getting approved for Quicksilver in say 6 months once the new accounts and inquiries age?

I'm not sure about Cap1 and BKs but I can say that Cap1's underwritiing is typically more lenient than others even the top tier cards. Your scores are decent, I would say with all scores at least over 675 you have a good shot at the QS, even the Venture! You got this! Try their pre-qual, its pretty solid.

And what do you do with that spare CPU cycles? Imagine that things are now better as the CPU utilisation has dropped by 10% or so?
What are the ways to control CPU usage precisely in database host that has multiple 10g instances. That is the kernel's job. Or do you think you know better than the very sophisticated processing and scheduling models that the kernel support - and should override that and control that from userspace?
I fear that particular instances overallocate CPU resource on the host and this affects performance of other instances on the host if CPU_COUNT value is set to default for every instances. Sounds like baloney to me. What you fear and not not fear does not change reality. What is the reality? What is the problem? In crystal clear technical details?

• What are the solutions offered by Oracle to handle length based products

We are on 11.5.10. Current version treats beams as each, we have 30 feet beams, 20 feet beams etc.
We do not want to set-up different items for each length of beam.
We need ability to tell we have 10 pieces of 26 feet beams in inventory.
Currently we can only tell we have 260 feet of beams.
Current solution treats it discretley. We need ability to sell length based items, receive length based items, do inventory management based on length based items.
a) What are the solutions offered by Oracle in latest releases for Length based products or for Mill products.
b) If there are any solutions offered by Oracle to handle length based or mill products, can these be back ported to Oracle 11.5.10?
