I dropped my iPad.....

the back/side is dented the screen is not cracked, but the display has lines in it now, can this be fixed or do i have to buy another one?  If it can be fixed, how much you think I'm looking at?

Accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty (have you checked your home insurance ?), and I don't know what country that you are in, but in the US the price for repair (i.e. replacement) is (from here) :
iPad model
Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
New iPad
$299
iPad 2, iPad
$249

  • My kid dropped my iPad 2 and the volume control on the side got jammed in and now everytime my ipad is on the volume icon in the middle of the screen will not go away.  I can not move the switch on the side, it is jammed, is there a way to fix it?

My kids dropped my iPad and the volume control on the side got jammed in and it will not move, how can I fix this?  Can it be pulled out to unstuck it.  The glass got chipped right next to it, but it is not that noticible.  Everything else works on the iPad, but the other problem is that I am past my 90 day warrenty and it will cost me $265.00 to have Apple fix it.  Is there anyway I can save my iPad?

Your warranty is actually one year - the 90-days is only for free telephone support - but the warranty would not cover damage due to the iPad being dropped. I doubt there's anything you can do to fix the rocker, so you'll probably need to pay to get the iPad exchanged (by Apple) or repaired (by a third party repair service).

  • So my i just dropped my iPad and now it won't start up. It just keeps turning on and off. Like the apple symbol shows up and then goes away? What happened and is there a way to fix it. I tried restoring and that didn't work

I pretty much stated it in my question. I dropped my iPad and now it won't boot itself up. The apple symbol shows up, then the screen turns all black and weird looking with a strange green color at the bottom, and just turns off. It keeps doing this over and over. What happened and is there a way to fix it? I also tried connecting it to itunes and that doesn't seem to be working. It detects an ipad but can't seem to read anything else. It tells me to try and restore it but I can't. HELP!!!

Try this. It worked for a few users after a drop.
Turn the iPad over and give it a very HARD slap on the back. May take several slaps.

  • I have dropped my ipad and have cracked the screen. Now the ipad will no longer detect or connect to wifi signals. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated

I have dropped my ipad and shattered the screen badly. A new problem that has only come since the cracking of the screen is that the ipad will now no longer detect or connect to ipad signals. I have tried all the solutions i have found online but none worked.

It will cost approximately US$219 to US$299 depending on the model.
Apple will replace the entire iPad; they don't repair.
If you had purchased AppleCare+ when you bought the device, you would be entitled to up to two replacements over a 2 year period for $49 each.

  • My Kid dropped the iPad and the display is not working properly now.

My kid dropped the ipad from about 3 ft and now the display is damaged, It is visible though but I can see rainbow colours and not the true ones.

  • I dropped my ipad 2 and now screen is green

I dropped my ipad 2 and now screen is green.  ipad 2 Wi-Fi 16GB.

I dropped my iPad today and immediately the screen was completely distorted.  Colors changed, images fuzzy, slow as can be, very hard to turn off or turn on.  I googled my problem and came to the https://discussions.apple.com site to read what I should do.  Not surprisingly, other people had this same problem.  What is INCREDIBLE is the way they suggested to resolve it.  I was hesitant at first but since SEVERAL people all said that it worked, I figured to give it a try.  A few people suggested SLAPPING THE BACK OF THE IPAD, NOT GENTLY, BUT FIRMLY.   A few good slaps and it looked a bit better.  Then my husband decided to DROP THE IPAD FROM ABOUT 2 FEET IN THE AIR ONTO THE CARPET, in a totally horizontal position.  THE SCREEN IS NOW PERFECT!!
For the last 2 or three weeks, the iPad has been very slow to load my apps, turning on and shutting down.  AS SOON AS I DROPPED THE IPAD, as described above, THE IPAD IS FAST, FAST, FAST.
I know, it sounds ridiculous that this should work, but it did.  I am certain that an Apple techie would never suggest this as a solution, but I swear to you, this has worked.

Steven ~ Welcome to the Support Communities. The following may be useful for next time...
AppleCare+ for iPad extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPad and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee. Note: AppleCare+ must be purchased within 30 days of the date you bought your new iPad.

  • I dropped my ipad ... how do I get the screen fixed?, I dropped my ipad ... how do I get the screen fixed?

Bah!  I dropped my ipad on concrete today!  It landed on a corner, kind of bending the corner and shattering the screen.  It's only 10 months old!  What can I do?

Make an appointment and take it to your local Apple store. If you have apple care plus then you can get a refurbished replacement for a service fee. If you don't have apple care plus then the out of warranty replacement fee starts at $249  and goes up depending on the model.
You can take it to an unauthorized place. The repair will be cheaper but it is a 'at your own risk' kind of thing, and using an unauthorized place will void any remainder of your warranty against manufacturer's defects.

  • HT3302 I dropped my Ipad and the color is distorted. All other features are working just fine. How do I fix this?

I dropped my Ipad and it fell on its edge. All features work. However the color display is totally distorted. What can I do.

I just did this when I dropped my iPad only about 12 inches onto the floor.  After consulting with Apple and being told I would need to replace my screen or get a replacement iPad both for $250, I decide I had nothing to lose by trying my idea.  While the iPad was off, I gently but firmly tapped each side on a hard surface.  I then turned it back on...and magic!  All the correct colors were restored.  I think that the drop must have loosened the metal back/sides or things shifted internally.  We'll see if this is a permanent fix, but it seems to be fine!

i dropped my ipad and now i have a "green screen" how do i fix this?

If it's an iPad 2, it's old enough to be out of warranty. Courcoul's suggestion to trade it in for a new one is ok if you are in the market. If not and you want to take a risk - and possibly a big one at that - others have reported a pretty extreme solution to this problem. Slap it on the back.
I know, I know. It's sounds crazy, but there are several threads here claiming it works.
Here is just one of them. You can do a search to find others.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)

    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th generation

Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. Csound1, free speech should have a place in this forum. Bless, you have 13,000+ points one day they might make you a moderator and give you a little badge. Isn't it ironic that Apple and their fanboys have became "Big Brother"?
As the old cliche goes ,"There's no harm in trying". If you can't afford a bill for several hundred bucks, then I would welcome all honest feedback and evaluate my options before paying a large repair bill.
If you don't agree with it don't use it.
There have been many stories of people getting free replacements, a close friend has received four replacement iPhones after the screen cracked from dropping it.
Screens crack due to a variant of reasons, humidity/climate change. If someone punched it and broke it deliberately then of course it shouldn't be replaced but it should be able to withstand some drops/pressure on top.
It may not be under warranty but you will find people who got a nice genius to replace it anyway.
