I dropped my iPhone 4 and now it won't sync to iTunes

Last night I dropped my iPhone 4 pretty severely and smashed the front glass. It's been working fine, with the occasional freak out (podcasts stop playing after ten seconds or so, but that righted itself), but this morning (after turning it on & off) I went to sync it with iTunes and it has been stalling at Preparing To Sync with an error message that says "An internal device error occurred." This sounds pretty scary.
Is there anything I can do for it or should I take it to the Apple Store? I was planning to get an iPhone 5 in Februrary, so I don't want to have to pay for costly repairs (it's out of warranty).
If there's nothing I can do for the internal device error, how do I get my podcasts onto my phone? The new app doesn't download the episodes for some reason. This is the only part of the data I can't do without syncing.

Your device is broken.  If you want a device that works better than the one you have now, then you'll either need to bring your phone into Apple for out of warranty exchange ($149), or find a 3rd party repair shop in your area and see what they can do, if anything at all.

  • I tried to restore my iPod Touch 2nd generation and now it won't sync to itunes.  on the screen it shows the usb end of the cord and the iTunes logo over it.  Is it broken?

I tried to restore my ipod touch 2nd generation  and now it won't sync to itunes.    On the screen is the USB end of the cord and the iTunes logo over it.
I have turned it off and on,  held the off button down and  the select button down but it still comes up with that picture on the screen.    Have I broken it?
    Please help.

It means the device is in recovery mode.  You'll need to reconnect it to iTunes and restore it again.
You may need to connect it in recovery mode manually using the instructions in this Apple support document.

  • Updated to new iPhone OS and now it wont finish syncing in iTunes 11.1.2

    Hi,
I updated (iPhone 4) to new iPhone OS (7.0.3) and now it wont finish syncing in iTunes 11.1.2
I wind up having to just unplug the phone.
Also - everytime I plug the phone into computer, it asks me if I should trust this computer and I say yes - but it asks every time.
Also a flag pops up saying it cant connect to an apple server. (???)
    (I am running Snow Leopard)
    any suggestions?
    thanks
    ds

You have to update to 10.6.8 first.
Then, if your machine qualifies, this explains how to get Mavericks:

  • I dropped my iPhone 3G and now it won't past the apple logo screen

I was listening music this morning and I accidentally dropped my iPhone 3G and hit the floor, it turned off in
that moment, and I tried to turn it on and didn't work, when I got home I connected to the
computer with the USB cable and the apple logo screen showed up but after aprox. 15-20 seconds
turns off, and iTunes doesn't recognizes it, is there any solution or do I need to take it to repair?

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart, usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If still problem, Restore iPhone, connect iPhone to computer with iTunes 10.7 or 11 open, hold both Home and Power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click Restore button of iTunes. If still problem perform DFU Mode Restore of iPhone.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4S, and now it won't turn on...

I just got it, and I dropped it, and now it won't turn on. I usually always have cases on my phones, but I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. And just my luck, I dropped it.
I tried plugging it in to my computer, and it just makes the sync noise repeatedly. But won't turn on. Is this fixable? I really can't afford to buy a new one at $600. this close to Christmas. Please help me!

Hmm. That helps. But I just got it through my service provider, so its only a week old. Lets hope its less then the $200!
    Thanks!

  • I dropped my iPhone 4 and now it won't go past initial set up assistant. Any fixes?

I dropped my phone. It said to plug into iTunes so I did a full restore. Now the phone boots into the setup assistant. However once I get to the end it tells me to sync with iTunes. When I plug it in to the iMac it says there is a problem with the iPhone. Is there a reason for this? Any ideas on how to fix?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Is there a reason for this?
Make an appointment at the genius bar. You probably broke something.

  • I have just updated my iPhone 4S to iOS6, and now it won´t sync with itunes. An error comes up telling me that I need iTunes version 10.6.3 or better, but that is the one that is installed on my Mac

I have tried updating to the latest iTunes, but I am currently running Mac OSx 10.5.8, so I can´t go that route. Any suggestions?

I followed the thread and used the link provided to download iTunes version 10.6.3 (again). The same error message keeps coming up, telling me that I do not have it installed. I tried restarting the computer following the install, but it still won´t acknowledge that 10.6.3 is installed. Any other solutions?

  • I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th gen to IOS 6.1 and now it won't sync with iTunes?

After upgrading to IOS 6.1, my iPod Touch won't sync. This is really frustrating as I want to add new music etc.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • I dropped my iphone 4s and now it won't power up, I dropped my iphone 4s and now it won't power up

I just dropped my phone onto asphalt from the car, about a 2.5 foot drop. The phone was wearing a case and no damage was done to the phone. the phone was off when I picked it up and will not power up. Any suggestions for how to fix this myself?

Apparently some damage to the iPhone did occur. Using a case doesn't guarantee zero damage when dropped depending on the case.
If the iPhone won't power on the normal way and the same with a reset, make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4 and now it won't turn on it all.

I've shook it to see if it's broken inside and i dont hear anything. The charger won't bring it on and it's not cracked or scratched. What can I try to get it to turn on? Will they fix it at the apple store for free or will there be a fee?

It sounds like the drop was able to break something internally. Apple Store usually do not fix iPhone. Instead they repace them. Since your iPhone is damaged they will charge you $149 for the replacement.

  • I wiped my iphone 3g and now it doesn't sync my itunes library

I was given an old I phone 3g.  I want to use it as an ipod for music only.  I followed Allen Sampson's instructions on wiping the content from the phone, but then when I went to my itunes music library and synced, nothing came on to the phone.  How do I get my music from my computer on to this phone?

Thank you.  I followed all those instructions, and when I opened ipod it said no content. There must be another answer.

  • Dropped iPhone 5c and now it won't turn on

My cousin dropped his iPhone 5c and now it won't turn on. It doesn't charge or make any noise. What should I do?

    Try to reset the phone
Hold the sleep and home buttons until the apple logo appears and allow normal boot up - there is no data loss
If this does not work - then chances are that there is hardware damage that cannot be fixed through the user troubleshooting methods and bring it to an Apple or authorized repair store

  • I inadvertantly dropped my iphone 3 and now have a white screen with green vertical lines to the right.  It won't sync with itunes due to an error. What can I do?

I inadvertantly dropped my iphone 3 and now have a white screen with green vertical lines to the right of the screen.  It won't sync with itunes due to an error. What can I do?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If it does not resolve the issue, the device is permanently damaged and will require replacement.

  • Dropped my iPhone 4s and now there are lines across the screen?! Help!

    Hey everyone!
So, I have recently dropped my iPhone 4S and now there are all these blue vertical lines across the screen, which occasionally change colour also.
I am still able to receive messages and calls, and siri still works, it's simply that I can't see a single thing I am doing- which is very difficult!
I was wondering if this is an issue that needs to be fixed at an Apple store- and if so, how much it would cost? Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
N.B: I've tried to reset it, it doesn't work. I have also tried to restore the iPhone, but iTunes won't let me do this as I have to have the 'find my iPhone' app turned off, which I cannot do because I can't see anything I'm doing!
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions,
    Kirstoodles.

Yes. It's broken. A replacement will cost you $199.
Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
The iPhone is not user servicable. Apple does not sell parts for the iPhone. any parts you could get are either stolen, counterfeit, or salvaged.  Atempting to fix it yourself will render it unsupportable and forfeit your right to service from Apple, including an out of warranty replacement.
