I dropped my iPhone 5s in the toilet last night, what do I do?

I dropped my iphone 5s in the toilet last night! I quickly grabbed it out. It had an otterbox defender on it, I dried it took it out of the case, dried it again and blew in the headphone jack, speakers, and charging port. I then immediatly put it in a ziplock bag of rice and left it overnight. This morning I took it out turned it on and it was fully functional (finger unlock, touchscreen), I didnt check the speakers though. The screen on the top left has a streak (about an inch long) that looks like water damage.  I turned my phone back off and put it back in the bag of rice and Im planning on checking it again later tonight. Is my phone ruined or can I make it go away? Also, will my phone be okay in the long run?

There's no way to know how much damage was done.  It didn't help that you took it out of the rice and turned it on... that may have permanently damaged it.  Leave it off, in the rice for several more days... you might get lucky.

  • I dropped my iPhone 5S in the toilet and now the screen is not fully responding

So last monday i accidentally dropped my iPhone 5S on the toilet. I immediately dried it off and tried the rice trick. I left it there for 6 days til today it finally turned on. To my surprise, when it turned on i tried entering the lockscreen code but the letter "E" is not working, so i cant put the code in. The whole thing is so frustrating. I thought I'd try to restore the device but when I tried, iTunes told me I had to turn off "Find My iPhone" first, and I obviously can't do that because I can't unlock the device.
As if it couldn't go any worse, I am willing to pay the 260€ that Apple charge for fixing water damaged phones but i live in Tenerife, a small island that belongs to Spain and Apple said that the only way of them fixing it is me taking it to an Apple Store in Spain and I cant really travel and I really need my phone :/ Any solutions? Please?

  • I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet and now the touchscreen won't work?

I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet because I saw a spider on the seat and jumped, causing me to drop it down the loo. I fished it out and dried it off. The phone was on so I tried to turn it off so it didn't fry the inside of it. I held down the power button and the usual "Slide to power off" slider came up. I tried to swipe it and the phone wouldn't do it. I kept trying to swipe but it wouldn't let me and the screen started to do something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij7r2dyqBMg
It then stopped and stayed on the homescreen but slowly faded to a plain white screen and wouldn't do anything. I took out my SIM Card and dried it off because I didn't want it getting damaged. Then it turned to a black screen and once again did nothing, so I plugged it into my Macbook and it vibrated, indicating that it was being charged. Also, my iTunes & iPhoto icons started bouncing. The screen was still black so I unplugged it and left it on my bedside drawer to do whatever. About an hour or so later my boyfriend pressed the home button and the screen turned on, but it looked like a cloudy sky. It wouldn't do anything else so again, I left it for about an hour.
I then tried turning the phone on and the Apple logo appeared. The buttons work fine and the home screen with the date & time appeared, but the only thing that wasn't showing up was my screensaver, it is blurred out. I put my SIM Card back in and it says "SIM Faliure" on the screen & at the top where it usually says your network etc. (T-Mobile, 3G and all that) it just says "Invalid SIM" instead. Also, I can't use the touchscreen. I can't swipe up for the options or camera, I can't swipe to turn it off & I can't unlock the phone. I don't have any rice in this house as me & my father are allergic to it so there is no point in buying it.
It's a replacement phone & I've had it for less than three months. What else can I do? Also, there's a strange smell by the power button, but nowhere else on the phone.
    Help? Thanks - Ellie xo

I think that we all know the answer to this one.
Unfortunatley the device is concidered damaged by water. Apple can do an out of warranty repair which would cost $199. Generally they would just replace the device in this case for the $199.
The alternative is to Purchase a new device.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4S in the toilet. Now it won't shut off and the camera light stays on. What should I do?

I dropped my iPhone 4S in the toilet. I dried it and shook out as much water as I could. I removed the SD card and put everything in a bowl of rice. It is still in there and everything appears to be working normally, but it won't shut off and the camera light stays on. I've tried the restart thing where you press and hold the pwr button and the home button. What should I do?

If water drained out of your phone when you pulled it out of the toilet it is most likelyh dead.  Stop trying to turn it on or plugging it in.  You really need to put it in a bag of rice for 3-4 days and just leave it alone.  It will take that long to get it totally dry to see if it is going to come back to life.
Good luck, but since you tried to turn it on, and plugged it in while it was probably still wet inside I would not count on it surviving.

  • I dropped m iphone 5c in the toilet!!!

I dropped my not even one month old iphone 5c in the toilet and the screen, home, and power buttons are unresponsive. I already put it in a bowl with dried rice. If that doesnt work, how much would it cost to replace it?

$269US, unless you had Apple Care+ which would allow for two replacements in the coverage period for a $79 fee. Prices depend on your location.

  • I dropped my iPhone 5s in the toilet! Please Help?!?

I dropped my phone in the toilet, it was submerged for about 2-4 seconds before i fished it out and ran to the kitchen for some rice.
However, I was so worried about trying to find rice that I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO SHUT THE PHONE OFF!
Right before I put the phone in the rice, I hit the speakers against my palm to get out any excess water. By the time I got the phone into the rice, the screen had shut off on its own. (Siri had just finished a sentence as well before I put it in the rice)
I know I'm supposed to wait 24-36 hours before attempting to turn my phone on, SO MY QUESTION IS: because i did not turn the phone off immediately, will my phone no longer work? - Is the rice useless at this point?
Thanks for your help! <3 (:

The recommended time for rice to  draw out all of the moisture is at least 7 days with rice being changed every couple of days.
Having the power on while there was still moisture in the iPhone could very well have cause some components within it to be fried.
The other things is that the moisture can cause corrosion which can cause more problems to develop in the future.
You might want to just take it to Apple and purchase an out of warranty replacement for it.

  • I dropped my iphone 5s in the toilet. Turned on after a day in rice, then shut off.

Ok, this is basically what happened.
I dropped my Iphone 5s a couple days ago into the toilet for 4-5 seconds. I then took the phone out, put it in a towel, cleaned up the water that was there, and then like an idiot after 10 minutes, tried to turn it on. It wouldn't turn on, obviously. I know this is bad. Anyway.
I decide to put it in rice. For 2-3 days. It would not turn on. I thought, it's a goner.
Today, my gf got back from vacation and tried helping me with it. We decided to put it in the charger, and bam, the battery logo turned on!! It was dead, and after charging, the phone went on like normal. I was psyched. We went to the Sprint store and changed my number back to my iphone.
6 hours later it's dead again. Won't turn on. Tried to charge just in case - won't turn on.
Should I just give up? I put it in rice again and see what happens over night, but I'm trying my best to not pay the 250$ repair price.

Water and electronic don't play well together.
I think it's toast, make an appointment for an Out of Warranty replacement for a fee.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet and i don't know what to do?

Earlier today i dropped my phone down the toilet, i had it on and playing music but it just completely turned off, so i tried to turn it back on again but then when it wouldn't i put it in a bowl of rice. But i just went and looked at it now and the back light is on and shining but it's really weak and dim in the dark? so im unsure of what i should do?

Leave it in a zip lock bag (not a bowl) of dry rice for a full week.
Do NOT turn it on or plug it in for a week.

  • I dropped my Iphone 5 in the toilet what do I do?

I was at work and I went to the toilet and I forgot I had my phone in my back pocket. I herd a massive plop! and i immediatley looked round and shouted noooo and grabbed my phone out the water! I wrapped it in tons of tissue and tried seeing if i could turn it off. The top button wasn't working and the touch screen was flikering and then it said no sim card inserted so i took out the sim card dried it and then tried putting it back in. The phone will now not turn on!! I have left it in my warm car with the sun shining on it to dry it out but it just got mega hot and won't do anything like its dead completley!
Can somebody help me in what to do? Ive only had the phone since November 2012 and its my baby I cant be without a phone due to work etc!!
    Please help me

    Far too much information
However place in a bag of ricer  leave for at least a week and there is a chance it may work
but assuming it was on it is unlikely
If you need a swifter solution
Apple retail Stores will exchange under out of warranty program for $229 over the counter
(or if you are in UK £179 )

  • I drooped my iPhone 4 in the toilet for the second time.

I really need some help, I dropped my iPhone 4 in the toilet for the second time. It isn't turning on and last time I put it in rice and it worked in a couple of days, but apparently rice only works once. I got my iPhone 4 last June so I've nearly had it for over a year. It was originally black and i got it changed to a white one. Does it still have warranty? What do I do? How much will it cost to get it fixed/get a new one? I don't have that much money cause I'm only 16. Some one help!!

Your warranty will not cover this because it is the result of user negligence. The warranty does not cover user negligence. What you can do is take it to your local Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement:

  • IPhone 4s down the toilet :(

    Please can someone help me!!!
I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet on Saturday night and I left it in a bag of rice since sunday morning. I just tried to turn it on and it will turn on, but it will not acknowledge me touching the screen (ie. it will not unlock or turn off).
Can I get it fixed or replaced by Apple?
I don't mind paying, but I need my phone.

Only Apple or an Apple authorised dealer can repair your phone for you, contact Apple for details of how to send it for repair.

I dropped my iPhone 4s and the back cracked and it now will not turn on. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimated price to fix it. And I do have insurance on it with best buy. I'm on Verizon's phone plan so I don't know if it would be cheaper to have it fixed with Best Buy or Verizon. I cracked my iPod a little bit ago and got a refurbished one for free with the insurance on it but I don't now if it would be different because it is a phone. I don't know really anything about this stuff so any information that could possibly help me is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's only for the iPhone 5. On the 4 and 4S, they can repair the back glass in store for $30. They will not replace the display on a 4 or 4S. They must replace the entire phone. Replacing the display on them requires disassembling the entire phone, which they will not do in store.
