I dropped my ipod from 2 feet off the ground and it shattered. Is it defective?

Ok, there have been several problems with my ipod. In order:
1) It's always been a little slower than my old one of the same generation.
2) It slipped out of my hand onto my friend's driveway and cracked. (yeah I accept blame for that one)
3) It slipped off my leg as I was sitting on a very small chair and onto the linoleum floor about 1.5-2 feet off the ground with a brand new rubber case on it, and shattered more than it did when I dropped it onto the driveway, also creating some grey spots on it along with the cracks.
4) I had a new, even better, case on it when somebody bumped me and I dropped it from about 4 feet or less off the ground, and it landed first on my toe (which hurt really badly), then face down on the floor. I picked it up, and the screen was white with only a shadow of my wallpaper at all visible on one side of it.
I would just go to the nearest apple store and try to swap it out since I got it less than a year ago, and I'm pretty sure it's defective, but unfortunately, I bought it from an individual, and I have no clue when he bought it originally. Does anybody know what I can do?
Thanks.

Hey Speckled dino, the Griffin Survivor case is that type of case, hard shell with rubber bumpers touching the iPod and bumpers on the outside that stand proud of the case, improves shock protection and puts a little air space between the glass and the ground. Guess I've been lucky, wish I had something more, but I don't, other then try to be more careful. Even with a case the right wrong fall will take out the screen, landing face down seems to do it nearly every time, glass is still glass, very strong on it's edge but the face breaks easily. Good luck with the new iPod. Cheers.

  • Dropped my ipod touch 1st gen on the floor and now it completely doesn't work. Since the first generation is discontinued, could I exchange it for a newer version?

My iPod Touch 1st Generation fell off the bed and now does not work. The screen didn't crack or anything but it won't turn on or do anything. I tried resetting it but that did not help at all. The computer recognizes when the iPod is plugged in but the iPod does nothing. I was wondering if I could exchange it, but since the 1st gen iPod is discontinued, could I exchange it for the newer version? Or even just return it?

You can only turn it into your local Apple store to be recycled for a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one.  That's it though.

  • Hi, I got my iphone 4 from a friend only 2 months ago. I dropped it from 90cm off the ground and it smashed. How can I get this fixed? Can I get a new phone? If not how much will I have to pay? Thankyou....

If my phone is only 2 months old (but second hand so dorm know how old infact), and I dropped it from 90cm....will I have to pay to get it fixed or will apple give me a brand new phone?

You show an iPhone 4 in your profile. If this is the case, the out of warranty replacement cost at the Apple store for the iPhone 4 is $149US. You would need to check your location for comparable cost.

  • My macbook pro was knocked off a foot stool (15 inches off the ground) and now the lid is slightly out of alignment.

Does anyone know if i can get this repaired at the apple store, i have apple care so i would really like to hope so.
Can someone help me here? the damage isn't easy to see in this picture but it is right in the left corner its knocked in further than it should be, covering over the vent.

do you know roughly how much it would cost me? just ballpark figure.
No one here can answer that as this is an international message board.  Your best bet is to ask the repair shop.  Make sure you get the labor costs, taxes, etc included so that you will have the total repair estimate.
NOTE:  If you purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.   They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).
If you have Homeowners insurance, place a claim with them.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • My I-pod has broken when i dropped only 1 foot off the ground!

I have an ipod 4th generation and i dropped it around a foot from the ground. It broke. The ground wasn't a very rough or hard surface either.I feel for this i should be able to get it fixed for a lower or free price. Can this be arranged?
I also feel that the I-pod's should be built to handle being dropped, especially if it was dropped only a foot off the ground.
If you could please give me a special deal to lower or free the price.
    Thank you, Trust-worthy Customer.

The Apple Store will not repair your iPod, they'll replace it. So none of your apps nor data will be on the replacement iPod. You may be able to re-download your In-App purchases, though not all are eligible. See:

As to the points, you've already marked your own post as being the one that solved your question (sort of impolite to those who try to help you) and marked two others as "helpful", so you have no other points to award. Not that I myself care, but just FYI for the future.

  • What are the consequenses of the iPhone 4 dropping 3 feet to the ground?

Today I was texting, and when I got done I put my iPhone 4 inside my sweaters pocket. But it accidentally fell to the ground as I was walking. I would like to know what are the consequences of the iPhone 4 dropping 3 feet to the ground. Will it be slower? Will the battery not work? Will the internet be slower?

Well, if there seems to be no obvious issues, count your blessings. When dropped at just the right height and at just the right angle, the iPhone 4/4S can shatter instantly. I actually have my 4S "naked" (no case) right now but using a case is a definite good way to prevent it from shattering in the future. Hope this helped!

  • My iPod Classic is cutting off the ends of songs; what's up with this?

My iPod Classic is cutting off the ends of songs...just silence. The play indicator shows that there's more data there but it's just blank. The songs play fine on iTunes and the data on my PC (Windows 7, iTunes 11.02.26). And it's not always the same song... It's like random. So it's got to be a bug in the iPod Classic firmware. Any help from Apple? Get a Zune?

Is it always the same songs that get cut off?  So the question is, after you do a Restore, when you re-sync songs back to the iPod, is it always the same songs that get cut off?  Or are they different songs each time?  Try doing a Restore and re-sync several times...
If they are the same songs, that points to a problem with the song files.  Maybe there is data corruption on your computer's hard drive, that caused the song files to become corrupted in a way that iTunes on the computer can still handle, but the iPod's software cannot.  The corrupted songs stay the same.
If they are different songs, that points to a problem on the iPod.  If a Restore does not fix the problem, then it may be data corruption caused by the iPod's hard drive becoming unreliable.  When you do a re-sync after Restore, the data is not being stored properly on the iPod due to a hardware problem.  It randomly affects different songs each time during the re-sync

i dropped my ipod in water ... the backlight will come on when the battery is dead and i plug it in .. but when it is on the home screen it won't come on

After drying the iPod in a sealed container od uncooked rice for a week with changing the rice daily, try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem likely caused by the water.

Hello, I downloaded an ntfs systemfile from tuxera and used it to convert a usb stick so I could put more than the fat32 4gb on, my Imac froze a while after so I turned it off the on and now I have blue vertical lines on boot up and the a white screen with lots of tine blue symbols after, mouse pointer moves but thats about it.
Have used R and cmd to get a menu up but once I choose one of the four options my mouse is rendered useless and I cant get any further, have downloaded, to another usb stick recovery disk assisstant and am trying to use that in conjunction with the lion option on the previously mentioned screen, computer was responding really slowly and has now frozen on the terms of software license agreement (maybe the last hurdle!) can anyone pleeeeeease help!!!!!??????

It's likely that the boot drive is failing, or that there's some other hardware fault. Run the Apple Hardware Test.

Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

  • How can I  delete pictures from my moments off the new IOS8

How can I delete pictures from my moments off the new IOS8 when it doesnt give me the option to delete the photo itself? The icon of the trash doesnt appear what so ever. This is the only thing im dissapointed in the IOS8 update. Theres not even a camera roll where you can delete the photo like the IOS7

    Try this:
    1. Start from the homescreen of your Iphone/pod (for dummies: where all of your "apps" are).
    2. Look for an app on your homescreen titled "Photos", when you find it - Click it.
    3. When the app opens, go ahead and look towards the bottom of your phonescreen.
         You should see a navigation with three different options;
"Photos", "Shared" & "Albums"; Why don't you just go ahead and click on "Albums", there we go - Very nice!
    4. On the next screen that appears, it should display your different albums.
Look for "Recently Deleted", and when you find it - Click on it.
It should be on that list somewhere (or there's a problem!).
    5. Now you should see a screen displaying all of the recent photos you've deleted.
The term we know as "recent" to iOS is thirty days (that's 720 hours in people-time!).
You will have to click to each individual photo, however at the bottom left-hand cornor of every photo take notice of the 'Delete' option.
    You're welcome.

  • I was in Aussie last month and dropped my iPod Touch (4th Gen) on the road. The screen was cracked on the top left-hand corner. The screen got fixed but the wireless stopped working. Can I still get it fixed under my warranty? (bought last July)

I was in Aussie last month and dropped my iPod Touch (4th Gen) on the road. The screen was cracked on the top left-hand corner (where the wireless area is). The screen got fixed but the wireless stopped working. So I am wireless-less... I bought it last July and its still under warranty, but can I still claim a repair on it?

No because it was physical damage

  • Drag and dropping an address from address book to the desktop, the address file does not go where my mouse is positioned.

If I drag and drop an address from address book to the desktop, the address file does not go where my mouse is positioned. It winds up somewhere in the middle of my screen. Any way to have the address file land and stay where my mouse pointer is?

You have to assign the favicon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click the shortcut: Properties) after you have dragged the link to the desktop.
You can usually find the favicon in Tools >Page Info > Media and save the icon there.
Otherwise use the main domain of the website and add favicon.ico (e.g. mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder.

  • Bought an iPod nano for use in an external source to the unit of the BMW. It works, but don't remember the place when you turn off the power and every time begins to play the playlist first.

Bought an iPod nano for use in an external source to the unit of the BMW. It works, but don't remember the place when you turn off the power and every time begins to play the playlist first.

    Thanks iPod Whisperer--
I do realize that the nano will resume where I left off in my audiobook if I reload the file that was last playing.
What I was hoping is that the 6g nano would work like my previous iPods and default to the last file played the next time played after Iused sleep mode instead of going to some random song on the iPod.
Since I usually have a lot of audiobooks on my iPod--and most of those have 10-15 files in them, it's a pain to have to navigate to the correct file (and try to remember which of the 10-15 files I was last playing). On all my other iPods I could simply hit play and it would start up in the audiobook right where it left off.
Note--this only happens if I use the sleep timer to turn off the iPod. If I pause the book myself, when I turn the iPod back on it'll "remember" what file it was playing.
    Hope this makes sense.
