I dropped my iPod Shuffle in water

Hello, about ten minutes ago I dropped my iPod Shuffle 4th Generation in water. this is what happened: I picked up the iPod, with the headphones wrapped around it (and plugged into the device). I think I must have only picked up the headphones and then they unwrapped slightly, causing the device to drop, because a moment later I was still holding the headphones but the iPod was HALFWAY into a mug of water. I wrenched it out ASAP - I think it must have been in the water for about 3-5 seconds. I ran two the bathroom and wrapped it in a towel, then ran downstairs and got a mug, filled it with rice and raced back upstairs. I unwrapped the iPod and paused to examine it (for about two seconds), found it was dry, then flicked the on switch. A green light came on and I immediately switched it off and buried it in the rice. I realised as soon as I'd turned on the device that I shouldn't have, hence why I switched it off so quickly. It took me a while to get the rice so the iPod must have been wrapped in the towel for about four minutes.
Thinking about it now, I think that the half I dropped into the water must have been the lower half - and therefore the part with no buttons or switches on the bottom (only half the ones on the front) because if I was holding the earphone cable up in the air, with the iPod dangling from it, and the earphone cable is plugged in at the top, the the iPod must have been the right way up when it was half-submerged. I figured this made a difference as the water probably gets in through the buttons (and headphone socket) most?
Infuriatingly, I only got the iPod yesterday. Plead help me - is there any advice? What should my next move be? The iPod is still in the mug of (dry, uncooked) rice.
Any questions that could help will be willingly answered by me if I can. Feel free to ask them.
- Louisa

My ipod shuffle went through the washer machine. I sat it outside in the sun for about 4 hours. It turns on, plays, and sounds great. However, when I connect it to my computer I am not able to see it through iTunes or "My Computer".   I unistalled iTunes and I am still having the same problem.

  • I dropped my iPod 5 in water and it says that I have headphones in it when I don't how do I get the water out of the headphone jack ?

I dropped my iPod 5 in water and it says that I have my headphones in but I don't how do I get the water out often headphone hole ?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Unable to join network after dropping my ipod in the water... anyone know a solution?

I put my ipod in the pocket in the back of my jeans and when i went to the washroom, it fell into the toilet... I immediatey took it and dried it with a hairdryer and then a few hours after.. it was able to reopen again, but im unable to join my network ever since then...
    Anyone can help me? Thanks.

Does it see any networks?  If wifi is dim or grayed out see:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
However, it is frequently a hardware problem.
    If can se networks, try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Powering off and then back on the router
    - Resetting network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reet Network Settingds

  • So i dropped my Ipod touch in water. It still works but the backlight is out.Can it be saved. this was a week ago

I just want to know can it be fixed

It is thoroughly dry? Did you dry it in rice?
If after it is dry have yu tried restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod?
I would say it can be fixed.  However, it might not be worth it if the logic board is the cause.  A backligh replacement is not that expensive.

  • Dropped my ipod nano in water and its not working anymore....is it officialy dead?

  • Please help me a.s.a.p.- i dropped my ipod in water

someone please help me, i dropped my ipod nano in water and it worked fine for a few minutes, but then it started blinking on and off and then it wouldnt respond to anything and now it is just a screen that says " FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided." please help i dont know what to do, ive only had it for 6 months- is it replaceable/repairable?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Let it dry for about a week. Don't turn it on, try to turn it on, or charge it.
    After a week, try these...
    Resetting iPod
    Restore the iPod
If it will not work, you cannot get it serviced by Apple under the warranty as you have voided the warranty.
You would have to do something like this...

  • Dropped my ipod in water; anything I can do to save it?

My son just dropped his iPod Classic in water; it started making faint buzzing sounds and will not shut off.  Anything we can do to salvage it?

Place it in a sealed bag of desiccant or dried rice for a week while changing out the desiccant or rice daily to help absorb moisture from the iPod.
After a week or so, see if you can it to power on and function properly. If not, the water likely already did its damage to the iPod's internal components and circuitry.

  • IPod Shuffle Drop in Water

my friend in mine was drop he's iPod Shuffle 4th Generation Late 2012 in water for about 30-45 seconds and he dry it out  by cleaning it with a tissue and he open the iPod Shuffle's back cover but he did not removed the screws he just rub a tissue and remove the water inside on the Shuffle and after it he put it back the back cover and after it i told him to check the earphone jack if it was turn to red and i and my friend check it and we don't see any red indicator it is still on white  so the center button was not working and all buttons are working and he's shuffle don't have any dents or scratches the question is if he drop it in ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL for about 20 seconds and let the shuffle dry for about 2 days the center button will work or not?
My friend needs help so i choose to ask in this forum!
HE DID NOT DROP THE Shuffle on the Alcohol because we are waiting for any answers here!

My iPod Shuffle (4th generation) was attached to some clothing that soaked for five minutes in the washing machine before I discovered my blunder. After drying it out by putting it in a bag with some rice for a couple of weeks I found that it worked, sort of, but that the VoiceOver button didn't work. It would go through the playlists when you turned it off and on again and you could get where you wanted with the play, forward, reverse buttons. Battery life was short and it didn't hold a charge when idle. After getting a new iPod Shuffle, I decided to experiment by dipping the defective one in alcohol just to see what would happen. The use of the VoiceOver button came back. The battery life remained short. It didn't lose its charge when idle. If I soak another iPod Shuffle, I will try the alcohol approach first. I will also try to locate my Shuffle before doing the laundry.

I am trying to sync my ipod shuffle to the itunes on my computer.  When I try to sync I go to the drop down file tab.  PULL up "devices" But the extended options of SYNC, RESTORE, Transfer and Backup won't allow me to click on them.  How do I activate?

Those menu bar commands are disabled when you do not have a device (your shuffle) selected in iTunes.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of iTunes) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, your shuffle should be listed under DEVICES.  Click on it there to select it.  Now, those commands under the File menu should be accessible.
However, once you have the shuffle selected, many of those "device-related" commands in the menu bar are also on the iTunes window.  For example, there is a Sync button at the low-right corner of the window, which does the same thing as the command in the menu bar.

    - Charge it overnight
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
