I dropped my zen micro accidenta

<SPAN>I bought my refurbished zen micro on the creative ebay store on 9/28/05. the warranty is past due already; yesterday I accidentally dropped it and now it turns on and takes me to the creative screen but then it stops responding and I need to remove the battery to turn it off. I tried going to the recovery tools, and it takes me to that screen but stops responding anyway.
<SPAN>
<SPAN>Since the warranty does not cover the accident I wander if there's any place where I can send my mp3 player to be repaired?
<SPAN>
<SPAN>I would buy a new one but maybe I can make this one work. I'd appreciate any help

Unfortunately there's no guide for replacing the Micro hard dri've yet.
You can of course contact Creative and get it repaired out of warranty, but it will be expensi've.

I dropped my zen micro on concrete by accident while it was off. I tried to turn it back on but it just freezes on the rescue screen, and makes a barely audible noise inside the player. I am able to get into recovery mode, will formattting the harddri've fix the problem or will i have to return it's

    >OMG... So i got to school this morning and my Zen Micro, would freeze when rebuilding, and make this weird noise after about 7 seconds of playing after the rebuild. So After trying to reset the unit, i looked it up in the forum, and found this article about how hitting the player against my leg, might help it.
So I gave it a shot. And now it works. So thank you, for posting that.

  • I dropped my zen micro; now wh

I was clumsy the other day and dropped it; not hard, but apparently just hard enough to make it not start properly anymore. I think the hard dri've must be damaged. When I turn it on it goes to a screen that has the creative logo on it, and it just sits there forever and ever. The touchpad doesn't respond (no clicks or anything), and the only way I can turn it off is to take out the battery. Putting the battery back in turns it back on and it goes to the creative logo again until the battery runs out.
I tried rescue mode, nothing worked. Disk cleanup just had it say "Scan Disk" until the battery ran out, nothing happened. Format All just had it say "formatting" until the battery ran out, nothing happened. Rebooting just brought it back to the creative logo. I didn't try the third option, since I don't have internet access on my home computer at the moment (meaning I can't download the latest firmware, either) and I didn't want to risk screwing things up further (if that matters right now).
So I guess my question is, since this probably isn't covered by the warranty (it doesn't cover "accidents" or as far as I can tell, anything else that might cause an mp3 player to need repairs), what options do I have? Can I send it in to get it repaired for a fee? Or am I completely out of luck? Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

    Bobd,
Creative does do out of warranty repairs/replacements for the cost of the part being repaired. So if it is the Hard Dri've being replaced, then we can repair it for what it costs to replace the hard dri've (most companies would charge you the total price for a replacement player). Contact support if this is what you decide to do and they can issue an RMA for you.

  • ZEN Micro 5GB Price drop in

The ZEN Micro 5GB has dropped from ?59.99 to ?39.99 according to Amazon UK.
Has the UK followed the USA's price drop in ZEN Micros?

In Finland, just in couple days price dropped from 243. ---> 209?.
I just got my micro last week with the old price, but luckily this store will pay me back this new price difference in a couple days

  • ***Dropped Zen Micro Not Working 100%

I recently dropped my Zen Micro Mp3 player from a height of about 4 Feet. When I turned it back on I found out that the Player was not working correctly. I can only scroll up (no matter what direction I scroll it always moves up). Im not able to use any other options besides "All Tracks" because I cant scroll down to select them. My Volume is always at MAX because I cant lower it. I can still use the Fast-Forward and Re-Wind buttons. The Play/Pause button still works. So do the "Menu" and "Back" buttons. The only problem is the Scroll bar(or button whatever its called). It can tell when im touching it because it shows the volume that its at and it can still scroll (Like I said before, only up). Anyone know how to fix this without having to send it in? I dont have a warranty anymore.

Hmm, thats odd considering i dropped mine over 0 feet onto a concrete floor and it works fine, considering that it beeps every so often. Well, to your problem, have you tried recovering the player by taking the battery out, and turning the power on at the same time you are putting the battery in?

  • Zen Micro Problem, somewhat embarrassing

So here is my issue, in fifteen words or less:
I accidentally dropped my Zen Micro in the toilet.
Now, once you've all stopped laughing hysterically, here is what I did. It was completley submerged for perhaps second, I immediately pulled it out. There was nothing displayed on the screen, although the backlight was on. I removed the battery immediately (which might have damaged it more, sorry). Right now, the player is air-drying on my desk. Understandably, I'm very worried, since neither Creative's warranty nor the Warranty I purchased from Best Buy cover accidental damage caused by moisture. Before I placed my player on the desk, I shook it some to get excess water out of the player. I don't intend to put the battery back in until at least 24-48 hours from now, to make sure the player is dry and I don't accidentally short the battery or permanently damage the player. Is there anything I can do outside of what I've already done?

UPDATE: Well, I dried it out, put in the battery and turned it on. It blinked on and off a couple of times, but now is steady on, even though there is nothing being displayed on the screen. Does that mean that screen (and, to follow, the player) is disabled or otherwise unfixable?
Edit: OK, the player now turns on, gives me the "Creative, copyright 2004" screen, then just a screen that says Creative. I think my HDD might be fried, but I'm not sure.Message Edited by cmercado on 07-06-2005 07:4 PM

  • Zen Micro Problem -- Just TRY and figure this one out

So, I never dropped my zen micro, never played soccer with it, never sent it to the moon. It's possible someone else has, and isn't fessing up to it, but all I know is I came home one day to find a non-working Zen Micro.
The symptoms: I can charge batteries, I can make it glow blue by plugging it in. If it's running just off battery it gets to the CREATIVE screen and just stays there until the battery dies. If it's plugged in, it does the same thing but glows blue.. and doesn't die.
I CAN go into recovery mode, but none of the options do anything [well, restart does.. it takes me back to the CREATIVE screen]. The other ones keep formatting and whatnot forever, which is a good indication it just froze as soon as I pressed format.
I also tried to plug it in, and format it off my computer as a removable disk, but unfortunately neither my computer nor my friends is picking up the Zen Micro as a removable disk and placing it on the My Computer tray.
If anyone has any advice, if anyone has seen this type of thing before, etc etc, please share.
    Desperately seeking help,
    Music Anonymous

You'll need to call Creative's support phone line so that they can give you an RMA number for your player. Then, just ship it to the address they tell you.

  • Replacing zen micro's hard drive with compact fl

I dropped my zen micro the other day and the hard dri've is dead
And I m li've outside the us and the warranty expired
So its dead and buried and I was going to get a new anyway
But while it sits there I dissembled the zen micro
And found that the hard dri've is a Seagate st 5gb
And the interface is compact flash
And here?s a crazy though can I put a memory card compact flash
    Say GB or 52<SPAN> MB
Could it work?<SPAN> And reload the firmware from pc?
    Waiting for your reply guys
Please help if this works it will be very cool

I ordered a dead unit off eBay, on a whim. Just like the description said, the HDD was bad, but hey thats a minor detail right? For me, the CF card swapped in fine, originally I was using a little 6mb until this one came in the mail (gb Kingston.) Sadly, neither have worked. I can format the disk within recovery mode, but I cant connect to my computer to upgrade the firmware. Also, I cannot load the original firmware, so essentially the player is bricked. This is a bit of a stretch, but could someone extract the firmware this way?) Back up all of your music2) Reboot into Recovery Mode3) Format the dri've4) Choose reload firmware5) Update firmware through Windows6) Using the "Take apart a Zen Micro" guide, remove the microdri've or CF card you are using for the Zen Micro HDD7) Using a standard multi-card or CF card reader, insert the card extracted in step six8) Copy the contents of the CF card in its entirety, and send to a zip or rar.9) Upload the zip using a free file-sharing website, such as Megaupload0) Tell us all about it!
Could someone do that for me? I'll make you cookies The reason I'm looking for the extracted firmware is I believe that the player will recognize whatever is on the card, regardless of how it got there. Since I cannot interface with my device using USB, this looks like my only option. Unless someone else knows of a site or file that has an extracted firmware that came from the .exe, or knows how to do that without plugging in a player?~ScabiesAdmins, let me know if I'm upsetting the feds. And if not, then let me know if the card has a proprietary file allocation system?****EDIT****Indeed, the CF card has been formatted to some Creative File System (not real name,) therefore I cant get into it. BUT I did manage to get the firmware to update, and the player is now clickin along just fine!IF YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH FIRMWARE, ALWAYS TRY MORE THAN ONE COMPUTER.Now you know...

  • Zen Micro wont start

HelloI recently dropped my Zen Micro :/ Now I have got this problem that when ever I try to turn it on it only shows the Creative logo movie thing? What can I do?thanksOskar

I couldn't get it to work so I contacted Creative yesterday via e-mail. And amazing fast and friendly support they have got in Denmark
He said that it was a harddisk failure and it would cost me 67.52? to get it fixed. A new player here in DK costs about 200? so it's a shame but hey - it happens sometimes.

  • Very Weird Problem Zen Micro...Please Help

So I accidently dropped my zen micro really hard and now when I turn it on, it takes me to the creative copywrite beggining and then it goes to just creative with nothing else on the screen and doesn't move from there as if its frozen. I've tried rescue mode, clean disk, but it's taking over 45-60 minutes and still nothing, just scan disk. I had about 800 songs. I could care less about the songs, I just want the dam thing to work already. Any Help would be of much appreciation, pleasssee and thank you.

You're pretty much hosed. Even if its under warranty, Creative will likely view the damage as due to dropping and, therefore, not covered. I'm not sure what the repair charges will be, but it won't be cheap.

  • Zen Micro: Beta Drivers + Drop = Cra

    Hello fellow Zen Micro users,
This is my first post here. Just wanted to share a little experience I had. After only two weeks of use, my Zen Micro stopped working, after one (!) accidental drop to the ground. While starting up, it just stalled at the Creative screen. Tried the Reformat, Clean Up in the boot menu, to no avail. I finally gave up, blamed it on bad luck, but luckily got a new player in return. This after originally getting the Zen Micro as a refund for a Muvo^2 I bought last year, which had problems with the headphone-plug (a company policy I like - but something absolutely necessary with products that break so easily!).
Like I said, I got a new one now. This time however, I decided to stick with "official" firmware (.02.05). With the last one, I used the new MTP Beta ones. I liked them because they solved many issues I had before:
    - Skipping tracks would finally not take several seconds anymore
    - Drag & Drop functionality
    - Louder volume
    - Battery seemed to be better charged
    - Transfer speed from PC to Micro seemed faster
However, I'm a bit skeptical if it wasn't these BETA drivers that caused my last Zen Micro to be rendered completely useless after one drop. Can anyone confirm this? I'd love to use the Beta drivers again for the above mentioned reasons. However, not for the price of constantly having to replace my player.
I kinda long for the days of the old walkman; I had one working for at least 5 years :/ No firmware upgrades, no software crashes... and I would actually LISTEN to a tape instead of constantly skipping tracks on my search for the right soundtrack to the time of day
    But still.

Hiya! Okay... how does it feel to know that you're not on crack? The same exact thing happened to me recently. I know that these things aren't supposed to be exposed to trauma, but I was getting out of my car, and it dropped about a foot down onto the ground. No way did I think it was a damaging fall, but when I got inside my house, I checked to see if things were okay. I turned it on, and it happened to be on a song that I hated, and for some reason just never deleted. So I chose delete, and it deleted... and deleted... and the message never went away. Two hours later the delete message was still hanging there. So I tried shutting it off. It wouldn't turn off. So then, I did as everyone on the web suggested, which was remove the battery. When I plugged it back in, it made this "whirring" noise (it was the loudest, most bizarre thing) and the Creative logo appeared. And then THAT never went away. I tried to put it in crash recovery mode, and each time it would "stick" in whatever option I chose until the battery died. And each time I turned it on, the Creative logo would appear with that weird noise. My computer (and and software) did not recognize it, yet I could charge the battery and the blue light would glow. Tech support ran me through a whole big thing of deleting and reinstalling my drivers, which didn't do a thing. I have a new one on the way. Again, I was totally shocked because it wasn't that harsh of a drop. I've treated my laptop worse than that. Anywhooo.... you're not alone.

  • Dropped Zen Micro- CANT FIND RECIEPT/WARRANTY

I bought a zen micro on holiday in Spain in August and about a week ago some **** knocked my Zen out of my hand by mistake. When i picked it off the floor it had frozen and the blue light turned into a grey colour, now i have looked high and low for the receipt/warranty and cannot find it. Can someone please tell me what my situation is regarding repair....i still have the packaging ...will i be able to send it to Creative? How much will it cost to repair it's--The player still downloads tunes and the library is still there when i plug it into my pc but apart from that all i get when its not connected to my pc is the zen logos then a frozen screen the select music to PLAY from the Music Library screen with no blue light then it shuts down
    -----:geis e xk.e

    Hi,
If you have not got the receipt then contact or CService team with the serial number. If its an out of warranty repair then the receipt is inconsequential anyway. They should be able to help you further.
Before you consider a return though do go through someo fht ebasic recovery troubleshooting. So in this particular case take the battery out hold the power button on and then connect to the PC. You should enter the rescue mode then with for options
    ) Cleanup
    2) Format
    3) Reload OS
    4) Reboot.
Run through each one and restart the unit afterwards. Also with regard to 3 you'll need to have the firmware downloaded from our site and you'll be prompted by the player to start the upgrade. Do of course back up your contents before hand.
See how this goes first - as the player is still responding and not displaying any errors its worth a go.
    Hope this hel
    ps.

  • ZEN MICRO won't hold it's charge!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned a 5GB Zen Micro for about 3 years. Up until about 4 months ago I had no problem with the unit holding it's charge for several hours. Now I can't get it to last for more than 0-5 minutes when using the FM radio. By that time the battery indicator shows hardly any charge left and then it does dead. Any [email protected]

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had considered the possibility that the battery may indeed be at the end of it's life. As it turned out I also googled the model and battery name, and came up with a Canadian site that had?them on ?sale and decided that with postage it would be just as cheap as getting it'sdirectly from?the US with higher postage costs and the exchange rate. I love this model so much I hope to keep using it for years to come provided I have no further more costly problems. Despite it's greater thickness compared to similiar models it is a very attracti've looking unit.
The reason I chose?the Zen Micro?in the first place, as opposed to an iPod?was because I could replace the battery if need be, and also for it's FM radio capability. I?did have to have the chip that contains the earphone jack connections replaced last year, as many other owners have also had to do. But it was worth the $60 it cost me.

I had originally planned to buy an iPod back in '04, because everyone else had one, but after I saw? this video I decided to do some more research. I ended up with a 5 Gb Zen Micro in February '05 and wondered why anyone buys an iPod, when a far superior product was available from Creative.
The original battery started? to go about a year and a half ago, so I popped a new one in and kept on enjoying it. I thought that I would finally have to say goodbye to my little friend when I accidentally dropped it onto a tile floor. The dreaded click/whirr...click/whirr...click/whirr... of a dead hard dri've.
I read a few posts on the Say Goodbye to My Little Friend (Zen Micro)? thread and replaced the dead hard dri've with a SanDisk 8Gb? Ultra II Compact Flash card, using the instructions on? this page.
I was so happy to see it boot up aain and once the firmware was loaded, I started filling it up with some of my favourite music. It's nice to have an extra 3 Gb of storage space too!?
