I dvd don`work

When i start idvd in dock start jumpin`box named multimediaimporter.oxygene. What it is?
Last version of idvd there was no that kind of box.
Idvd don`t burn my project or burning process stop before it is ready.
Problem report says : IDVD stopped working suddenly by using plugin Hear.
What is problem? It does everytime and every theme the same thing.
Is it a bug in ilife 11 update.
Have somebody else samekind of problems? Are there any help available?

Welcome to apple discussions. I see you have your first question posted to apple discussions and I am sorry to see your iMac early 2008 model is having issues running iDvd. Is this your mac (see link below)?

If so, start by tell me how much available hard drive space is remaining on the boot volume of your mac (hopefully it's at least 25 GB's if not more). Can you verify this please?
Have you tried disposing of iDvd's plist? Quit iDvd first.
Then go to your Home Folder (the one that looks like a house) > Library > Preferences >
com.apple.iDvd.plist
Drag and drop the plist/s to the trash.
Restart your mac and try iDvd again.
Also, let us know if you have already run apple's software updater recently from within System Preferences.
Lastly, have you tried burning a disc image yet from the file menu within iDvd? This will help narrow things down. You want to use apple's dvd player to test playback prior to burning to Dvd-R at no higher than 4x. Assuming the disc image plays as expected. I use Verbatim as the final step here. (You want to avoid brands like Memorex and/or bulk media).

I have come across an irritating problem on a Macbook Pro 2009 model...
I am trying to watch DvD movies on it. Some DvD's work, some don't. Sometimes it just ejects the DvD automatically, sometimes it claims it's blank, and there are times when the thing actually works - for specific DvD's
I am a bit suspicious with this ordeal. I'm thinking it's the version of my operating system and there's a bug in it that causes some DvD's with certain specs to not work...
For example, the DvD for the actual Harry potter Deathly Hallows P1 movie works, but not the special features. The DvD for the movie "The Number 23" works, but not the one for the "Black Swan".
Thoughts? Broken reader? Bug that needs to be patched? or is Apple being bullies and preventing me from watching "burned" DvD's or something similar because I can't look at any dvd's with manually burned movies.

Super drives are known for being picky about the discs they'll read. It's normally not what's on them, but the brand of disc, or sometimes even the speed it was burned. Do you have two of the exact same brand/model/speed of burned discs and one works while the other doesn't?

DVD can be inserted and the proper program for the dvd player is installed but cannot get DVD to play, only to eject. Options are to fix, format, etc but not run, or play. Is Apple unable to use a disk created on microsoft system?

If it gets far enough to reject your serial number, it won't help to download it. It must have installed ok.
What is the message you get (DON'T tell us the serial number!!)?
Does it mention a "qualifying product" by any chance?

Making a DVD that works with surroung Sound

I am trying to make a DVD that works on surround a sound system (DTS system) There are 2 front speakers, 2 rear, and a sub woofer. I imported several film clips into iMovie (I believe what I did is called "down mixing") then created a Quicktime file that I imported into DVD Studio Pro. I created the disc, but the audio did not sound good. So I have been fooling around with Compressor to try to turn the audio into the correct format, and I still have not found the right combination to get the audio to sound correct. What can I do to get the disc sounding clear when I play it on the DTS system. I am assuming that there are certain steps I must make in both Compressor AND DVD Studio Pro (version 3) - I would be very appreciatvie to the person who can give me the magic formula to get everything sounding right. Thanks!

The answers posted don't fully address your question, since they are talking about AC-3, not DTS which is what you indicate you want.
First, you can use iMovie to edit the visuals, but you won't be able to use it (easily) to create the 5+1 tracks you'll need for surround encoding.
This is more a job for an actual multi-channel mixer, like BIAS Deck....

Basically, once you have each of your audio channels edited and mixed, you export each channel as an individual mono track. These are then imported into the audio encoder and assigned to the appropriate channels.
Apple does not provide a DTS encoder, so you'll need a third party encoder.

If you can live with Dolby Digital, then you can use A.pack which is included with DSP.

10.4 update, cd/dvd stopped working

Upon installing the 10.4 update my dvd drive has now stopped recognizing discs. I don't think it's even spinning. I fixed disk permissions via Disk Utility and restarted (several times) but still nada. Any ideas? It was working perfectly just seconds before the update. Go figure.

I am still puzzled by the DVDs not mounting on the same machine that burnt them and was used to mount and read them fine.
I have a suspicion that this happened after an Update in or about October.
This system has been running 10.3.9 for a long time. I installed Tiger on a different partition. I do not remember any problems till the update.
Apple has said it might be a hardware failure. I think it is safe to say that is total BS. All printed movie DVDs, CD-Rs, Software CD and DVD (printed) work fine. Only the DVD-Rs that have been burnt by this G5, 2GHz won't work. Unless they mena that the Tiger update 10.4.3 is causing a hardware/ chip problem.
Has anyone found any answeres for this? Does Apple read these?

all the cache cleaning, zaping, Openfirmware, permission work have not done anything.
The DVDs are data DVDs as well as some iMovie>iDVD burnt DVD-Rs burnt by this machine.
Next step for me is to install the system 10.2.8 that came with this G5 on a separate partition and test it.

Dvds don't play after new install

hi,
after a harddisk crash i installed 10.4.3. on a new HD. before the crash my superdrive was set to region 2 DVDs. after the install dvd player opens but dvds don't start. i only see thin stripes.
i did try with a region 1 dvd but was told that i only can switch once more (out of the 5) which i cannot do right now, because i am in europe for a while.
any help?

This is definitely one of the pitfalls of travelling a lot. Region free DVD hacks exist for the drive, but whether or not they will affect your warranty if something goes wrong is hard to say, and I'd take up with AppleCare by phone before trying such a hack. Here are their worldwide phone numbers:

And try VideoLan Client which sometimes works when Apple's own DVD Player does not.

Burned Apple DVDs don't launch anymore

Hello,
I'm french and working on a PowerPC G4 2x1Ghz under 10.4.11.
I'm burning archives since 5 years and bought especially apple DVDs to be sure of quality (seems to have been a mistake !). Most of them don't launch anymore when i put them in th computer. Some come up on the desk but impossible to open the Stuff-it files !
CDs and other DVDs are working fine.
What is the problem? Is it the quality of the apple DVDs? Can I recover these archives in some other way ?

I see you are using the original DVD drive that came with the computer. Many users of the 104 generation drives are finding these drives are starting to fail and are switching to newer drives like the Pioneer 112 and 115 drives. DVDs are pretty demanding on a drive's ability. My old 104 drive refused to read DVDs and some CDs. I bought a new 112 and it does everything with no problem. At least in the US replacement drives are very inexpensive ($30) so I would suggest you try that.
It could also be something like dirt in the drive, but the cleaning disks cost $10+ which is a good percentage of a new drive!
If you can try your DVDs in a computer with a new drive and it will read them you will know that it is your drive.

PC doesn't read cd's, but dvd's works.

Hello, my pc is HP Pavilion dv6-2007so, about two years old. It have Windows 7, 64 bit.
Cd/dvd-drive worked great until about a week ago it started to work badly. I listened some Dido cd when the cd started suddenly to twitch so i skipped few songs that twitched too until rest of the songs played well.
Later that day i listened some other cd and it again started to twitch, some songs worked and some didn't. First i thought that maybe those cd's was scratchy or something (but didnt).
Next day when i tried to listen next cd, it tried to read it about 30 seconds but it didn't can open the cd at all.
Few other cd's, same problem. Finally I got some cd to open to Windows Media Player and the song "started" to play, although there wasnt any sound at all, seconds was running and i could skip tracks (it took long time though to), but not sound at all.
Today was same thing, i putted the cd in and it took about 20 seconds to read it to Windows Media Player and again no sounds, and at the same time mp3's plays normally.
Weird thing is that when i tried to put a Bruce Springsteen dvd in the same cd/dvd-drive, the dvd played normally.
I coulndt find drivers to cd/dvd-drive from HP product page, if it were just a driver problem.
This is very frustrating situation.

It is not a driver problem. An optical drive has multiple lasers for different functions and it is very possible for one to go out but not the other. You likely need to replace the drive, but you can try a lens cleaner disk first to see if that helps.

Check lsmod if libata is installed.
I remember seeing something that libata needed to be added manually to make DVD/CD work.

You can use A.Pack (look for it into your apps. folder) to generate the Dolby AC3 files.

DVD only works on TV.

I burned a DVD with iDVD. The DVD only works on TV but not on computer. Do you know why and how to make a DVD which works both on TV and computer?

Try making a disc image to the desktop if you haven't already. It will help us isolate the issue to your mac or the media you happened to choose. Test the image with apple's dvd player app. If it plays as expected, then use Verbatim or Maxell Dvd-R while burning at 4x or lower.

No need to worry about the disk version. You would just have to install an update anyway as soon as it was installed. Download from the link provided below and use the serial number you have to activate.
