I dvd studio pro 4 wont build and format on mabook pro

My dvd studios pro will not build and format with out crashing. I have a 300.00 dell computer that burns dvds all day long. But my 2700.00 mac book pro, and 1000.00 final cut studio can not make one dvd. what is up with that. I can do everything in dvd studio pro 4 except make a dvd. kind of stupid wouldn't you say. How do i get it to work? i have reinstalled 5 times. all updates are done and still nothing but crashes. took it to apple genius bar and they said "there is no reason under the sun that this should not be working". My computer is has more then enough power to run it. they checked everything and there is nothing installed wrong or not working properly. I asked what to do next and they said "i don't know, I guess your kinda out of luck" that was great of them to say. Does any one out there know what to do? Or has mac falsely sold me a 3700.00 dollar e-mail machine.

here are the specifics of the crash with dvd studio pro 4
I am a complete lost, found diffrent apple store i can go to I may have to. may be someone out there can help.

  • One last question about building and formatting

When I am writing my DLT do I need to remove the .layout file and the Data.lay file? It will already be built but I will be using DVDSP3 to write the DLT. Are they removed automatically? The manual seems ambiguous about this.
Also I need to output in the DDP2.0 format (Its a DVD-9). I can't select this without choosing build and format. I have been testing by building to my desktop and testing on the Apple DVD player. If I choose build and format will it rebuild the project? And if it rebuilds is it possible for me to get something besides what I have been checking? I just want to make sure I write the same thing to the DLT that I have been checking.

you can also get ddp by just doing format as opposed to build and format. You can not open a ddp image in dvd player to test it, so there really is no use of building it to your hard drive. If you have already built the project and you have a video ts folder, then you can go under format and choose the dlt drive as your location and make sure you are referencing the folder with the videots in it.
there wont be anychanges from the video ts after it has been built, it is merely converting it into a ddp image.

  • HD edited footage in FCP 5.1 to DVDSP 4 to "build and format" to where now?

97 minute movie shot with Sony's HDV-FX1, edited in FCP 5.1, exported to QuickTime movie, full quality, current settings. Imported into DVDSP 4.1, parsed, no problem, authored with HD settings, and built project. DSP produced a proper HDDVD_TS folder. With Apple DVD Player 4.6.5 on my duel 1.8 G5, this plays just fine.
With Toast 8 and a NU Technology Blu-ray burner (Matshita BD-MLT SW 5528), DVD-ROM (UDF), new disc, named and imported the HD file. Clicked record, selected 1x DB write speed to be on the safe side, used both a Panasonic BD-RW and a TDK BD-RW single layer disc and burned successfully. Neither disc now, to my ultimate frustration, will play in our Samsung Blu-ray DVD player or play with Apple's DVD Player. Both report a message about not supporting the media type, although the disc does mount on my G5 via the Blu-ray drive.
Thoughts on where to go from here? Our movie plays fine downconverted to 480i, but we would love to see it play in High def at 1080i.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

    David,
That is the answer to why I am unable to use the "build and format" option in DSP? Seems crazy that the option is there, but the function isn't.
Did the Toast product manager give any hint as to when this option may be available? I knew were we sailing into unchartered waters, but we had hoped that by the time we were done with post that the path had already been navigated
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • Build and format better than to build and burn?

I'm going to be burning 15 copies of 2 different single layer dvds through DVDStudioPro. I've tested both discs in this project and they're ok to burn.
Reading through my reference material, I don't get a clear sense of what to do next. Should I build and format and store the resulting disc image (.img) to somehow burn from in DVDSP?
Or should I just "build" each project and then format and burn the 15 discs one by one?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi..
I just build the project which will creat a TS folder wherever you select and render all the menus etc.
The when you want another copy then just "format" a disk. (i.e. burn the info to a disk)
You could build a disk image and burn a disk image that way.. but I don't think it will save you any time.

  • Mid-2009 MacBook Pro 13" install and format SSD drive

I'm running OS 10.8.3 and intend to install an SSD hard drive.  They recommended formatting the hard drive prior to installation???
I have a backup of my hard drive so the data is protected.  I've seen some suggestions on the forum but for older versions of OS.
I'd like to install a clean copy of the operating system and then restore the data from the old hard drive.  I've ordered a case to hold it with connections for my MacBook Pro.
Is it possible to do this without using other software?
Do I need to make a bootable USB drive to begin?  How should I go about doing this?
    Thanks for any assistance!

OK, here's what you CAN do...
Buy your SSD and also buy a USB enclosure for your old drive. Install SSD in the HD bay and connect your 'old' drive and boot from it. Use Disk Utility on your old drive to format the SSD - erase and format as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a single GUID partition.
BEFORE your SSD arrives, download Mountain Lion 10.8.3 from the App Store. Get an 8GB+ USB flash drive and use Lion DiskMaker to create a bootable 10.8.3 bootable installation drive, After your drive is formatted, boot from the USB flash drive and install a 'clean' copy of Mountain Lion on your SSD.
Then you can boot from the SSD and copy your files. You'll have to physically re-install your applications as they usually have files scattered all around your Library folders and they are dependent on them.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Installing Visual Studio runtimes on Build and Captures

    Greetings,
I was just wondering how many of you out there install all Visual Studio runtimes in your base OS builds as part of you build and capture process. This would be the following four:
    VC2005, VC2008, VC2010, VC2012 Update 4.
I'm thinking that there are so many apps these days that tend to use one or other of these versions that you might as well include them all. Is there a downside to doing this (apart from the increased OS build file size?).
    Thanks
    David Z

Yes. The Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime redistributable package install runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run applications developed with Visual C++. They are not related to Windows.
If you deploy a x86 application on Windows 7 x64, it will require the x86 of Visual C++ Runtime.
If you deploy a x64 application on Windows 7 x64, it will require the x64 of Visual C++ Runtime.
A x86 application cannot use a x64 runtime. So yes you may need them in your image

  • DVD won't play after build and format

I have gone through and created my project, which is just a test for now as I have a 2 1/2 show I need to encode to DVD SP. I have encoded a 10 minute test in compressor using the 120 min preset and imported into DVD SP. EVeryting seems to work fine, when i build, format and burn my DVD it plays in my computer and in simulate mode, but will not play on various DVD players. I have burned different brands of DVD's etc. Is there something I am not doing??? I am going crazy trying to figure this out.

    Hi
Besides that MPEG2 settings you must encode your audio to Dolby 2 (AC3).
The DVDs you created don't play at all in stand alone players or play skipping and/or with erros?
    Hope that helps !

  • Updated MacBook Pro with Yosemite and to Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.12, won't "share" or attach annotated PDF file

Anyone have a fix for this?

Count me in, I have the same issue, and from what I read here, it looks like a Yosemite/SSD related issue ?
I'm not 100% sure if it started when I put a SSD in my old iMac 2009 (as a fusion drive) or if that's after that when I upgraded to Yosemite...
I did disable auto poweroff like suggested in another thread : Mac freeze during the night sleep.
    sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0
    We'll see if it helps.
It happens toughly a couple of times a week.

  • DVD Studio Pro locks up - crashes on selecting Format

I searched for this one but couldn't find anyone. having this problem.  I believe it's Mountain Lion-related.  Mountain Lion is not my friend.  I just open the program, hit format and I get a spinning ball.  Trashed preferences.  This is starting to get me down.

I am very happy to report that DVD Studio Pro has been restored to health.  It was an accident.  I took someones advice on how to fix a sleep wake issue on the Mac Pro.
    This is what I did.
    1.  Boot up holding down the CMD and R keys to get to Disk Utilities.
    2.  Run Repair Permissions.
    3.  Run Repair Disk.
    4. Close out of the Disk Utilities and boot the machine.
    5. Open the Finder.  Hold down the Option key, choose GO from the menu and select LIBRARY.
    6. From the Library drag the CACHE fold and the COOKIES folder to the trash.
    7. Delete the trash.
Probably recognizable by many of you.  This fixed sleep.  It fixed DVD SP.  Muxing/build and format.  It also seems to have fixed problems with opening Toast 11, Squeeze 8.5, Compressor 3.5.3 and Disk Utility without locking up.  The last group I mentioned has been very contentious.  Want to test some more before a final verdict.  It did not fix a skipped frames issue when monitoring BlackMagic audio in FCP 7.

  • DVD Studio Pro not burning

Ok, so, I recently created a projected, burned two or three copies with no problem. Tried burning again and this came up:
Starting DVD Build NAME OF PROJECT...
    Compiler File Error
    Build cancelled
    Formatting finished.
Building was not successful. See log.
It just wouldn't burn this time. Why? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

In DVD Studio Pro, Click *Build and Format*...
Way at the bottom, instead of selecting your DVD Drive, select Hard Disk. And save as a disk Image (.img)
Then, once you create your disk image, from your finder, right click it and select open with "Disk Utility". Then in Disk Utility, select the image you just created and click burn.
Now you don't have to build a format every time you want to burn another copy... Heck, you don't even have to open DVD Studio Pro....

  • Issues With DVD Studio Pro 1.5 - MPEG2 Encoding & Building Discs

    Hi.
I'm having problems encoding MPEG2 files in final cut express - everytime I try to encode, final cut closes.
Also, when I go to build and format a disc in dvd studio pro, this also closes.
I have looked at updating dvd studio pro to 1.5.2 and although I have downloaded the .bin file for the update, I don't know how to get it to run. The download is from the following link ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120138 )
If anyone could help at all, it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Of all the early versions of DVDSP, 1.5.2 was the most stable and you really ought to be using that if you are not going to upgrade further.
V1 was notoriously flaky. I used to chant 'Apple+S' every day when I used it, just to remind me to save... I lost count of the number of hours lost when the app hung or crashed. That version of DVDSP was built on an entirely different code base to the current version. There are still folk who prefer to use V1 despite its faults, but I am not one of them... although I do still run a version of it somewhere.
The upgrade will be straightforward enough. Double click the file you have downloaded and you should get a disc image. Open it and double click on the files inside. Keep your serial number handy, although I don't recall it being needed for a minor upgrade.
You may find that encoding is your biggest hurdle. Back in the day of v1.5 there were very few cheap options open to you. One was to use the Quicktime MPEG encoder, which was a system file you had to install into the QT folder in the system library. Since the system library can't be altered whilst the system is running (i.e. your mac is on) this was a bit of an issue - you either used the terminal app, or booted into target disc mode and used a second mac to put the file into the right location. Sheesh. Alternatively, you used an altogether better encoder - BitVice. These days you have many different options for encoding - try simply exporting from FCE as .mov and encoding in something else entirely. You need to end up with elementary streams -ideally a .M2V and .aiff (for audio). You should also have A.Pack installed on your hard drive. Use this to encode the audio to AC3 (Dolby Digital).
Then bring those assets in to DVDSP and author quickly. Use Apple+S frequently - like every time you make a change. Don't use the preview if you can avoid it, as it tended to crash out more often than not. Build the disc as a disc image and test it in DVDPlayer app.
Of course, for a relatively low cost you can now use DVDSP v3 or 4 (available on eBay most days, I think!) This uses a far more stable code base, a more graphical approach to authoring and has more bells and whistles (not that you'll need them all the time, if ever). It is based on DVD Maestro (PC App) and is very similar to use. Advantages are many and varied compared to V1 but there is a consequential hit on speed IMO. That said, if your mac is anything close to modern (I author mostly on an old G4 still) then you will be fine.

  • Formating Failed DVD Studio Pro 4

I have been using DVD Studio Pro 4 for several months (having upgraded from previous version) and had no problems. Now regardless of build and format or burn and even going to image file I get 'Formating Failed' see log - log lists 'Formating Cancelled'.
The only recent change has been to replace a faulty HDD - the replaced HDD has nothing to do with the boot drive, where applications are stored - the DVD I am trying to create has been done several times from material not stored on the faulty or new replacement drive.
    Any suggestions????
I came across a post from 2009 where someone descries a similar thing which seemd to just rectify itself.
    Thanks

Try this: Go to File->Advanced Burn->Build and let DVD-SP do the build on a local hard drive.   If that works, try burning the DVD from that build using Toast or Disc Utility:  http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/making_dvd_copies.html
If the Build worked OK, the problem likely isn't in DVD-SP.
If the disc burn failed, it may be the media or the burner that is the source of the problem.
