I earased my idisk icon in my finder window

I accidentally erased my idisk icon from my finder window. I have searched for it in every place possible so that I could drag it back to the sidebar but I have yet to find the icon again. I was wondering if there was anyway I could get it back.

I presume you mean the Finder sidebar?
In Finder, open the Preferences, click on Sidebar in the toolbar, and there is an item under "Devices" that is iDisk.
For future reference, you may have better luck posting Finder related questions in the appropriate Finder section of the OS version you are using (Snow Leopard (10.6.x):http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1341, Leopard (10.5.x): http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1221).

  • Icon view in Finder windows do not autowrap

    I am using 10.5.1 on a 17" MBP 2.16 ghz.
Since installing Leopard, Icon view in Finder windows do not autowrap and Finder windows do not always remember their display preferences.
The Trash auto-wraps (the icons spread to take up the entire window if it is enlarged) But Opening a Folder in my default list view and switching to Icon view and then enarging the window only shows icons in the original window width. EG, If it were 3 colums of icons, it stays 3 columns of icons unless I use Clean Up TWICE and then I get 10 columns of icons which will wrap.
Is this a Leopard BUG or a local problem. Any suggestions on fixing it?
    TIA,
    Bill

Yeh - though I use cmd-J which I have used since it appeared, 10.1?
But I just solved my problem. In my use as defaults selection, I had Snap to Grid selected in the arrange by pop-up rather than by Name.
Selecting Name and clicking on Use as Defaults makes things work as expected.
Thanks for making me look closely!
    Cheers,

  • Increasing icon size in finder window

In Snow Leopard I was able to increase the size of icons in any finder window by pinching out. I seem to have lost that ability after upgrading to Lion. This was a great feature, especailly for folders with photos in them. Does anyone know how to bring this back?

    Hi,
    thanks for the star too!
    I'm afraid I don't understand what didn't work... Mmmm...
What I tested on my own computer (I also run 10.4.8) was that
1/ I opened my home folder
2/ my files are in "Icon view"
3/ I went to the pull down menu at the top of the computer and chose View
4/ I selected Show View Options (or Apple + J)
5/ A window opened that allowed me to change the size of the icons in that window and also gave the possibility to change the size in all windows.
I'm sorry if I was not clear before.
Francine gave you the best option anyway. Thanks again!

  • Icon size in Finder window

This has gotta be an FAQ, but I can't find it. How does one change the size of icons that appear both in the Sidebar of Finder windows, and in the main part of Finder windows? I found how to change icon size for Desktop icons, but I want to change the size of icons within Finder windows.
    Thanks!

  • Icon preview in finder window

How do I get a thumbnail preview to show up as the icon when looking at a file list in a finder window?
I can't find any pref settings to that effect.
    Thanks.

    rileyman...
I was thinking along that line but the confusing part was putting it all into words. But the unfortunate thing there has to be some stripped data for it not to be seen there properly. Perhaps EXIF data, of which stands for Exchangeable Image File Format, that I am a bit clueless on any fixes. What I do know is that Preview.app is the worse for stripping that out on an export. Then the preview icon gets tagged into the picture rather than seeing the true picture from within the "Finder Preview Window"
What I do is to coral them up into single folder for opening within another application. iPhoto is ok at times, but I have more luck with Photoshop - Elements.
If you are photo application deprived, check over any camera, printer or scanner software that you have that may contain some freebies. Or feel free to see this website. There is a few image browsers there.

  • How do I change the user name that appears next to the House icon on the Finder Window?

I'm giving my old iMac to my father-in-law and would like to change the user name from mine to his.
I've edited my Account info and changed it to his, but this does not seem to change the name in the finder window.

  • I lost the Hard Drive Icon in my Finder Window

I have lost the ICON for my Startup Disk "Macintosh HD"! It shows up in my other windows that I open but it is no longer on my DESKTOP. Ugh. How can I get the ICON back onto my DESKTOP? The computer is working fine.

    Ebo!,
Have you checked Finder>Preferences>General>Show these items on the Desktop>Hard disks?
    ;~)

  • Full file name under desktop icon, not a finder window.

Hello, is it possible to have icons/dirs on the desktop display their entire name without ellipses? Don't care about /path.
    Thank-you,
    Dennis

    Try launching "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering these commands:<pre>
defaults write com.apple.finder FXDesktopLayoutGridCharCount -int 50
osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to quit'</pre>
Then restart the "Finder" by clicking on its "Dock" icon.
You can try different numbers other than "50" until you find a value that suits your preferences.
Edit: oops, too slow I guess.

  • Lost the Search For "All Movies" icon from the Finder window.

When I used to GO to Applications there was a "search for" option on the bottom left where I could click on "All Images"or "All Documents" or "All Movies". My son went to drag "All Movies into the main body and it literally went "pooof" and is no longer there. And I can't find a bunch of movies that was previously there. How do I get that option back? (it was next to a little purple box with a cog in it) or is there another way to see all movies on the computer . Thanks.

    Hi,
    click on the Desktop, then
    Finder Menu >Preferences>Sidebar tab
    recheck the "All Movies" box

  • How do I make image icons in finder window previews of the image?

The image icons in my finder window are just generic jpeg icons (they are set to open automatically in Preview). How do I make them previews of the images themselves? When I "get info" on the icon, there is a very nice preview of the image - I would like to see the same quality preview in the icons themselves.
Thank you very much for your help.

    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Sam,
From your Finder "View" menu (without a Finder window open) >> "Show view options" >> do you have "show icon preview" check marked? And with the Finder window open "show icons" and "show preview icons" checkmarked?
EDIT: I may have misunderstood your question. If you're talking about the small file icons, not in the preview frame if you have PhotoShop it should do it with a save as PS file. Otherwise you may be able to paste the image but I'm not sure.

  • One File (But Only 1) shows as an icon in List View of a Finder Window

Finder windows has one inconsistency, but only for this one file, which is a JPG photo. In list view with the option to not show thumbnails (under Command J) Then I get generic JPG badges for each file. If I select: "Show as Icon" then I get a small photo icon for each photo. So far, so good. The problem is with one individual photo file. It always shows as a photo icon, regardless of how I set the checkbox for Show as Icon within a finder Window by sing Command J. So the problem seems to be with that individual file by itself. Using Command I for Show Information on the individual files does not give me any options or clues about how to control the presentation of the icon on its individual files.
Looking at the same image but with different file names or paths, then everything is normal and as it should be. The simple answer is simply erase the "goofy" file and replace it with a new version, but I want to understand what the OS is doing. The same issue with the same file was under OSX 3 and 4. I have 10.6 Snow Leopard now, but the issues was there with Tiger and so on.
    An ideas?

It always shows as a photo icon
It sounds as if the file has its own custom icon, which is different from the "icon preview" that the system constructs on the fly when a custom icon is not present and you have also checked the "show icon preview" box in View Options. If you want to remove a custom icon, do a Get Info on the file, click on the icon at the top left to select it, and hit command-X.

  • Removing icons from Finder window sidebar after 10.6.7

Not a major calamity, but since upgrading to 10.6.7 I don't seem to be able to drag icons off the Finder window sidebar to remove them. In earlier versions of SL they would disappear in a small puff of smoke.
Right-clicking and contextual menu command does work though to delete the icons. Two machines - 24" and 27" iMacs, no exotic third-party software.
Curious if anybody else has seen this or if there's a fix?

Use command-drag, changed in latest update credit to I forget who.

  • Adding a Print icon to Finder windows

I often have a list of documents in a folder I need to print.  Right now I open a Finder window, highlight all documents and go up to the menu bar and select Print.  Because I'm working on a dual monitor system (13" MB with a 27" Cinema display) it's a pain to highlight documents in Finder than move mouse up to 27" Menu and select File -> Print.  I'd like to add a Print icon to the Finder window itself but I don't see that option (I click Customize Toolbar but there isn't a drag/drop icon for Print which seems strange).  Question: How do I add a Print icon to my Finder toolbar?

You could write an AppleScript and save it as an application then drag the application to the toolbar. This script seems to work:
    tell application "Finder"
      print selection
    end tell

  • How to restore iphone/ipod icon in Finder window?

I accidentally deleted my ipod icon a while back and now can't seem to restore the icon in the finder window even with my new iphone.  How can I restore this? I can find the files on the ipod and iphone in other applications (ie. itunes and iphoto) but just not in the finder.
    Thank you.

You can restore the iPod icon by doing a "reset home screen layout" on the Iphone. Go to Settings ->General -> Reset -> Reset Home Screen Layout. It will come back
