I edited a .mov file in QTPro. Now it won't open.
I performed a quick trim edit to a .mov file (taken by my HD camera) in QTPro. Not knowing, I simply closed the file pressing the red button and hit "save" when prompted. Now I can't reopen the file.
I've tried to change the extension and reopen, no help. Tried opening/importing the file in iMovie, no help.
Is there any way to salvage the file? Or is it lost forever?
Thanks much, in advance.
Denise

Sounds as if you corrupted the file somehow. Using the QT 7 Pro "Save" option merely writes the "in" and "out" points for playing back the file to the original file. This means that the file is essentially unchanged and will play the trimmed content in QT player apps but will play the entire file in third-party multimedia players. Your normal action in this case should be to use the "Save As..." option. This would write the trimmed data to a new MOV file contailer leaving your original file untouched in case you should need it again. My best guess here is that the file may have closed while the hard drive was still writing the changes to the original file which usually means the file is "lost" as far as QT apps are concerned. There may be some sort of special third-party recovery software out there, but I am not aware of any.

Try downloadinc VLC Player from here

And try playing them with that.

i just made a movie in iMovie and exported in MP4 format, now it won't open, error message says quicktime can't open the file ***? Anyone?
I have the same problem. I'm using Mavericks OS and latest iMovie. Both downloaded last week. I save the movie into File (as directed) and QuickTime
will not open. I'm then directed to a page of formats which are supposed to be supported on which is .mp4. Any tips? -
Our imovies were stored in an external drive. The files were moved to drop box. We moved them back over to the external drive. Now, they won't open and look like quick time movies when you look at the file names. Neither quick time nor imovies can open the files, though. Any suggestions?
Just an update... A rep contacted me and we did a screen share. They were convinced that I wasn't full of <insert proper word here>. They promised to get back to me in a few days, and now? A few months later? Nothing.
Still no files. Still no correction... Still no nothing from Adobe.
The person I spoke to was kind, saying he'd make sure I got CC for free for a while...
Still though, no follow up.
Adobe, are you going to correct this or just let your customer suffer at your mistakes? -
My premiere project file size just went from 190MB to 5.61GB... and now it won't open! Anyone know how this happened? Or how to prevent it from happening again? Thankfully I saved a backup project of the 190MB file size.

reloaded Photoshop CS5 (New Machine) and now it won't open, get a message "Could not open scratch file because disk is not available", so pS won't go any farther.
If prefs are the same as Settings on a MAC, OK, it would have been more
clear to me if you had said Settings since I didn't see anything related to
prefs. On a PC, I know what you mean, On a MAC, wasn't sure.

I tried to update itunes and now it won't open, how do I fix it? Will uninstalling and reinstalling erase my library?
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

New harddrive, now iPhoto won't open
The harddrive in my PowerBook G4 had to be replaced (again) but this time I thought I was smart because i had been using Backup to backup my stuff to an external harddrive on a regular basis.
Now iPhoto won't open because it says:
"You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I know that I had the latest version of iPhoto on the old harddrive but now have 4.0.3.
I have tried to update to 5 but it won't take that either:
"an eligible iPhoto application was not found in the location/Applications/iPhoto.app"
even though it is there!
So, why didn't Backup backup my iPhoto 6 app?
What can I do to get my photos off of the external harddrive?
Ugh!
thanks,
deneen
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)So, why didn't Backup backup my iPhoto 6 app?<<<</div>
Backup sw backs up DATA, i.e. those files that you created, such as photos, movies, word Docs, etc. It does not back up applications such as iPhoto etc. That should have been very obvious when you configured the Backup template.
What can I do to get my photos off of the external harddrive?<<<</div>
You need to load iPhoto-6 from your iLife-06 DVD (the same one that you used when you originally loaded iPhoto-6). -

I updated software on my computer, now Safari won't open
I updated software this morning on my computer. Just did it automatically and didn't pay attention to what was being updated. Looks like Safari was one of the apps. Now, Safari won't open, mac Mail won't open, not even my Skype will open.
It must have something to do with the new dumb**** screwups with the switchover to "mobileme". I have OS 10.4.11.
I'm able to use Firefox.
On www.me.com I can't access my mail, but I can access my account information.hapycampr2002 wrote:
I deleted the .plist file, but Safari will still not open. What next?
*Hi h'c', Welcome (Back)* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
I sounds like you tried a Safari restart. I don't know what it takes to generate a new .plist. Might try log out and back in or restart computer.
Might try reapply the 10.4.11 combo updater—sometimes miraculous results.
While you wait for someone more vast than me, see below, it would be helpful to update your 'My Public Profle.'

Just upgraded to snow leopard, now safari won't open
Hi, I just upgraded to 10.6.8 from 10.5.8 and now safari won't open. All I get is the spinning circle. Safari will still open in a guest account though, so I wonder if the file somehow got corrupt. Do I have to reinstall something? Please help.
Thanks,
Pauldavew100 - It is importen to have Pages in the iWork folder in the folder applications in your account. If you have moved it Software updater can't see if you need to update.
You have the possibilty to downlaod the updates from iWork . You still need to have iWork in the Application folder. -
I'm trying to install Adobe PS CS3 for my boss on an other computer. I put the Program on a hard disc and copied it to the other computer now it won't open and says it needs the license. What can I do to make it work on this computer?
Copying the program over to a new machine will not work. Install it using installation files and activate it using the serial number assigned to the license.
