I edited Ozzy's video with FCE

Ozzy has a contest on his website where you can download footage they shot on a green screen and edit it yourself. It took me about 25 hours to put this video together. It should be on the Ozzy website in a couple of days. In the meantime you can check it out on youtube.

Oh, drat! So you can either use just the iPod AV cable, which transmits both video and audio, from the iPod's headphone port to the TV, or...
... you can use the AV cable and an S-Video cable (in which case you also need the Dock with you)? With this second option, does the S-Video connection override the AV's capabilties to transmit video - so the AV cable is purely being used to transmit the audio??
Sorry to sound dumb, I have no experience with connecting an iPod to a TV.
Basically, what I want to know, is what I require to connect my 5G iPod up to my TV, to view photo slideshows and videos (both video and audio) - in the best/highest quality format possible. As I said above, I will be purchasing a Universal Dock.
Thanks for your help and quick reply.

  • Ingesting HD video with FCE

I am having issues ingesting HD video with FCE as well as with iMovie. I have a Sony HDR-HC3 HDV CamCorder. I am using my MacBookPro 2GHZ, 2GB 667 Memory with an external WD Hard Drive. While ingesting my Mac falls behind "real time capture". If I let it run overnight - ultimately it times out without completing the capture. Is this a settings issue? A external HD issue? of simply a MBP processing issue?
    macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2GHZ, @GB 667 Memory

What's the external drive exactly? Was the drive zero erased and reformatted before you began to use it? How's everything connected?

  • Workflow for editing and organizing video with PSE7 and PRE7

I'm quite new to using PSE to organize my videos, and would appreciate suggestions on tutorials or guides creating a nice workflow to keep the growing number of clips manageable.
What I've done is to import my videos into a separate catalog, and I kind of hoped that I could make version sets like with still photos. I can't seem to find that option. Is it possible?
Alternatively, I'd like to just replace the original clip with an edited version, but again I haven't found an easy way to do it.
Any suggestions on how to start are welcome, also if they take a different approach from what I mention above.

  • Using 4:2:2 Uncompressed standard definition video with FCE 4.0

    Hi all,
I'm preparing to get some old Super 8 Film converted to Digital Video. I'm looking at a transfer that ends up as 4:2:2 Uncompressed standard definition video on a USB Hard Drive. Has anyone had any experience with this format using FCE 4.0.1?
    I'm running a MAcBook Pro, OS 10.6.2, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 4GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
    Cheers,
    Doug

    Not with FCExpress.
You didn't say what format/codec you plan on using, but FCE works with DV-NTSC and Apple Intermediate Codec, both of which are 4:1:1. And both are compressed. (FCE also works with DV-PAL which is 4:2:0 but Belize is not a PAL country.)
You could do 4:2:2 in Apple ProRes, but you will need FCPro to work with that.
If you are using FCExpress, then I'd suggest having your supplier provide you with QuickTime files using Apple Intermediate Codec.

  • How would you edit a blurry video with such lightning?

Hello there! It's my first video and I really need your help guys. I have no idea how to adjust this to look less blurry, the lighting was bad so nothing works as I would want to. Saturation just makes it more blurry, same for contrast. Sharp doesn't work at all. I've already tried to mess with three way color corrector but I have no idea which to choose, and anyway it won't remove the blurry effect for sure. Just give me some combinations, I hope someone already made a room video look nice. The problem was the camera - it was recorded with my phone, so that's probably the main factor. I work in CS6, and it's an amazing program, props to all of you that know it well!

Have you tried the Make Beuatiful Filter?  Just kidding!  First of all if you want good video, don't use your phone.  Video production is not cheap and you can't cut corners if you want it to look good.  Okay enough of the lecture.
You could try shriking the video, that may make it look less blurry.  If you shot in in HD, resize it down to an SD size.  Not the best for full screen playback, but mayby good enough for youtube.
Look into renting a small video package for your next shoot.  You will be glad you did.
    Good luck.

  • Cut videos before editing with FCE ?

    Hi,
This might be a dumb question and I may tackle this the wrong way : basically, I have several Video cameras (HD, non HD, etc etc) and when I shoot something, I usually store it all on my Mac and save it for later editing. Problem is that amongst all the footages, a lot is not usable but I keep it all anyway and as a result :
    - It takes plenty of space on my HD
    - it makes it painfull to edit in FCE when I want to make a project later.
As such, what I want to find is an easy (and cheap) way to roughly cut raw footage as soon as I transfer it on my IMac and keep only the usable things (I also thing it is a good thing to do it when the "event" is fresh in my memory). It will save space and make it easier to edit. Of course, I could do that with FCE but it's quite long to open and use and I feel it is a bit painfull to use it for such a simple task. I see that QuickTime alows to trim the footage but you can only cut from the start and from the end, not to cut a piece in the middle and also converts it to .mov after trimming while I'd rather keep it in the original format as I'm affraid to lose quality on HD videos.
Also, I was wondering what wa sthe best format to use to edit video in FCE ? because depending on the format (.mov , .mp4 ,...) it can be very long to render.
Anyway, is this makes sense and if anyone as an idea, it;ll be welcome,
    Cheers,
    Jean

    >what wa sthe best format to use to edit video in FCE ? because depending on the format (.mov , .mp4 ,...) it can be very long to render.
That is most likely the reason you feel FCE is too difficult to work with for cutting footage.  FCE only works with DV and AIC.  All other formats must be converted to one of those two BEFORE importing into an FCE project.
Once you've converted the footage to the proper format, cutting in FCE will be a breeze.

  • Cannot edit video! FCE keeps freezing video track, running audio only

I am enormously frustrated. My FCE has stopped working smoothly! It is freezing in arbitrary places during clips, sometimes for a bit & then starting at a later point, or just freezing while the audio continues to play. I have reinstalled Snow Leopard and updates, reinstalled FCE 4 and updates. I have installed smcFanControl to make sure nothing is overheating. I have vacuumed air vents. I have prayed, yelled, cried.
My video camera is a Canon Vixia S100 HD, and only the updated version of FCE can read the files. I know that. I've been editing with FCE for a year now. I think it may be a graphics reader incompatibility or bug, or perhaps even related to Flash since the problem began when Apple announced it would not be going forward with Adobe Flash.
I am a videopoet and frankly can't take my iMac in for servicing at this point.
What is most interesting about this problem is that I can edit "blind" -by guess work- and upload to YouTube or Facebook and the videos are absolutely fine. No freezing, no dislocate of video and audio synch.
Also, I tried to watch my latest clip in Picasa, which is on my desktop, and it began freezing in the same odd way during playback.
Since the videos upload fine, it's not the video itself, but the player in the iMac. It feels like a bug to me, a kink, something between OS X 10.6.4 -it didn't happen before that upgrade- and whatever video player the iMac uses... since freezing of raw video clips occurs across two programs, FCE & Picasa.
Because I can no longer edit my videos properly I am quite fairly rabidly mad, as you can imagine, struggling with these issues for many many hours, and today spending the afternoon re-installing my OS and FCE and upgrades to no avail.
I am hoping someone can enlighten me on what is going on, or if there is a patch for this particular issue.
    Thanks!
    Brenda

Check the item properties of the clips in your FCE project and let us know their specs. Also, if you have any still images in the Timeline, make sure they are in RGB Color Mode - NOT Grayscale, Indexed or CMYK.
Also let us know where the media is stored (hard drive type and formatting and how it is connected to your Mac).

  • Working with HD video in FCE

    Okay, here goes nothing...
I've worked pretty well with FCE on my Macbook Pro when using SD video. Just got a new Canon Vixia hf11 and all of a sudden, I'm at a loss with trying to work with HD video. From reading through these forums, I think I need to import the video clips into the computer and then convert them somehow into workable clips but I'm not really sure how to go about doing this. Also, I'm not sure that I can actually work with this format, even though both iMovie and FCE say they are ready for HD.
I'm looking to see if somebody can give me a quick rundown of what I will need to do to be able to import and edit my new HD video in the same manner as when I worked with SD.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
FCE 4can handle DV NTSC-PAL, HDV and AVCHD (through Apple Intermediate Codec for HDV and AVCHD). All other formats must be converted to a format supported natively by FCE.
I don't know the spec for your camcorder model but sometimes conversion with Mpeg Streamclip app is the only way to go. Search this forum with +Squared5 MPEG Streamclip+ keywords.

  • Any known problems with FCE-HD and "Capture Now"  or edits

    I've been working with FCE for almost two years now. I've had the same problem ever since-- The SPINNING PINWHEEL OF DEATH when: playing back edited video from the timeline and the playhead passes over various edit points, usually cuts. Is it a CAPTURE problem, or camcorder RECORD problem, or something else? I use a SONY DCR-TRV38 with firewire; FCE-HD;
Any thoughts on why I get this problem so often, and what I can do to avoid it in the future? should I just switch to Avid or Premier??
    Thanks for any help...
    Shawn

    Hi Shawn.
I don't think there is a "known problem".
I assume your HDs are not more than 75% full or fragmented?
If you have not already done them, try the old chestnuts of Trashing the Preferences and Re-installing FCE.
    1. Make sure you trash all 3 of the Preference Files as detailed in this article:-
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93690
    2. If that does not work then re-install FCE but make sure you delete all the old FCE files first as shown in this link:-
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182
    Good luck.
    Ian.
PS. When you write in with a problem, remember to give all possible APPROPRIATE details eg.
Computer model and external Hard Drive.
    Operating System.
    FCE version.
    Camera type.
Did the problem suddenly occur or has it NEVER worked?
Have you recently loaded new Software or Upgraded ANY programs, Operating Systems etc.
Have you moved or altered your source files?
Have you captured the clips from a DV camera or an A/D Converter etc.?
Is it Standard or High Definition Video?
What type of files are you using?
Also include details of exactly what you were doing before the problem occurred.
Is your film hours long and filled with numerous transitions and effects etc.?
THIS IS A GENERAL LIST. SOME OF THEM WILL NOT APPLY TO YOU.

  • Best way to sync (shift to match) audio with video in FCE 1.01?

What is the best way to sync (shift to match) audio with video in FCE 1.01?
Step by step in simple wording please, since I am new at this.
    Thank you so much.

As you probably know by now, DVD camcorders are not compatible with FCE or pretty well any other DV based editing system.
Possibly the simplest (though not cheapest) route would be by using an Analogue-Digital converter.
Streamclip and other similar programs are supposed to work but I have had no experience with them.
In the long run probably the best (but costly) solution would be to buy a Mini-DV camcorder - it doesn't have to be a top of the range model - even the cheapest ones can produce high quality video. Then you would not have to mess around converting DVD files with the inevitable loss of quality it entails.
A cheap DV camera need be not much more expensive than an A/D converter.

  • How to import and edit a 3D video made with Sony HDR-TD10E camcorder, with .MVC file?

How to import and edit a 3D video made with Sony HDR-TD10E camcorder, with .MVC file?
    I have PremierePro-CS5 installed.
This stereo 3D camcorder (Sony HDR-TD10E), output an .MVC (MultiViewCoding) file, coded in H.264 format.
This format is already compatible with Bluray3D stereoscopic format.
    1) But, how to edit the .MVC in Premiere?
    2) What plugin should I use (if exists) for PremiereProCS5?
    3) Cineform Neo3D, can manage the .MVC format? Can convert it to Cineform format file, for import it into Premiere?
    4) What software should I use to convert an .MVC video to an AVCHD H.264 file, and import it into PremierePro CS5 or CS5.5 for editing?
    Thanks!
    Horsepower0171.

Sorry, I am Italian, it is very difficult for me to understand what he says!
I can just read the english text, or follow the actions of a videotutorial!
Thus my question is the same:
    -What software can do that?
-Sony Vegas 10 do the Bluray3D authoring?
-For MVC editing, should I wait for Adobe CS6? Or is it planned an update for CS5.5?

  • No editing videos with QT 7.3 (Pro)?

Hi everyone, last night I updated Quicktime from 7.2 to 7.3. What puzzles me, however, is that QT seems to have lost the ability to edit video files. I cannot set any in points and out points anymore. I used to do that a lot with QT versions before 7.2, and the ability to do that was one of the reasons a bought a Pro license. I know that MPEG Streamclip does the same job, however, I am just used to working with QT and would like to know what happened.
    Thanks a lot!
    Joerg

You are, of course, right when you indicate that nobody who expects professional results would use QT to edit MPEG-1 files. I used it to quickly throw together video files I received in order to see what it looked like when they were combined. Well, I tried Streamclip and, indeed, it works when it comes to editing a single video file. No problem with trimming the video or copying parts of it to put them somewhere else. What I miss (or what I just not figured out yet), however, is the possibility to have ten or more windows open at the same time with different video files in each of them, so that I can just grab what I want from one video and paste it into another.
Anyway, no answer yet to my question (and that of Charlie), what ever happened to these little selection triangles that used to be there and are not anymore. Ideas?

    Hi Cereskit
Thanks again for the message. I've done the updates and have the App Store on my desktop. I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. Also, were you saying that imovie would be free?
