I entered a 'hacked' website from my imac. Will this cause me any problems?

Very worried that my security/system may be at risk in some way through visiting a website that had been hacked.
Anyone able to put my mind at rest please?

Thank you Klaus1,
I just went to view the site, (it is one I view regularly - Microstock Group Forum), and instead of the usual, I got a tiny window that jumped around so that I couldn't hit the 'x' to close it. The screen grew until I could read something along the lines of 'this server has been hacked by a Bangladeshi Haker'.
I quit Safari and didn't do anything further.
I take it that nothing could have inadvertently downlaoded itself?
Cheers

  • I want to send my daughter in Australia a BT headset from the US, will there be a compatability problem?

I want to send my daughter in Australia a BT headset from the US, will there be a compatibilty problem?

There shouldn't be, at least not based solely on country. Bluetooth is a world-wide standard. Just confirm with the manufacturer that the headset you intend to purchase is compatible with the device (model, operating system, etc.) your daughter will be using it with. Don't assume that just because it's Bluetooth that it will work with everything.

  • I need to download dell drivers to a jumpdrive connected to my iMac.  Will this cause problems with my Mac?

I need to download dell drivers to a jumpdrive connected to my iMac.  Will this cause problems with my Mac?

Thanks.  These drivers are for the audio, etc. for a dell laptop I purchased used.  ( Needed something cheap for a training video that would only run on Windows.  Tried Emedia player but picture was too fuzzy.)  Dell support said I should contact Apple support for instructions on how to get the drivers onto the jumpdrive.  Any tips on doing that?

  • File Vault encryption locked up.  No progress for 24 hrs.  If I restore from a non-encypted back-up will this cause problems?

Started file vault yesterday and no progress for 24 hrs.  If I do a Command-R restore from a non-encrypted back-up will this cause problems?

You first must repartition and reformat the drive before restoring your backup.
Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should install the version of OS X that you had installed.

Did this update make a physical change? Branching from that question, will this update confuse lets say, a parent that isn't savvy?

Did this update make a physical change?
    No
will this update confuse lets say, a parent that isn't savvy?
This will depend on whether they are savvy enough to open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility on their Mac , click on the picture of the AirPort, and then click the Update button.
It that sounds too complicated, best to let someone else handle the update.

  • My zero Key isn't working after waking from sleep mode. This is a real problem for me because my password contains a zero

My zero Key isn't working after waking from sleep mode. This is a real problem for me because my password contains a zero.  I don't recall spilling anything or jamming it just that it worked before I closed the computer and wasn't after I woke it up.
I would like to fix the key but if that's not possible right away , Is there a way to reset my password without being able to type with a key thats in it?

Start by swapping the keyboard. You don't need to spend a fortune, and handy to have spare. USB cables can be bad even new.
When I had some problems Apple wanted to blame the mouse, keyboard, cable, but in the end I found
    A. run Disk Warrior
    B. Corrupt pref or conflict with version of Hardware Monitor and other background tasks

  • My wife has an ipad2 which is synched with my imac. When she opens an email, it also opens on my imac, and when she deletes an email it deletes it from my imac. This is very frustrating. Can anyone help?

My wife has an ipad2 which is synced to my ipad (on snow leopard).
When she opens an email it opens it on the imac, and when she deletes an email it deletes it from the imac, whether it has already been opened on the imac or nt.
This is very frutrating and annoying.
    Any ideas?

It is hardly Apple's fault that Epson can't/won't update their driver, but at least Epson suggest that you use the Gutenprint driver, which in any case is far better that what Epson offer.
    You can get it here:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/
You can download the latest version from here:

Have you downloaded the recent Apple update to Epson drivers?

  • If I run a second monitor from an iMac, will I be able to achieve a resolution of 1928x1080 which is the max resolution of my second monitor?

I am changing to an iMac later this year. At the moment I run a Sony Vaio all-in-one and use a second monitor with it. Although the resolution of the second monitor is 1928x1080, I can only get it to work at a max of 1680x1050 so it's a bit fuzzy.
My question is, when using an iMac, will it be able to support the additional monitor at its max 1928x1080?
    Thanks

You are only limited by what the maximum resolution is on the external display. Look at it's specifications, then when you have connected it to your iMac look at System Preferences - Diplays - Display tab and choose the resolution on the external display.
BTW please complete your profile. It's difficult to assist you without knowing anything about your iMac. Much like asking Sally Ormond for financial advice and not telling her anything about your financial situation.

  • Turning off autoplay does not stop videos from auto-starting, will this be fixed, or should I switch to another browser ? (which do you suggest?)

    Hi,
Firefox these days has an annoying habit of starting videos on every news page that I open and when I scroll through my facebook newsfeed. There is only a very select amount of these videos that I would actually want to watch, and it's annoying to be bombarder with this media constantly.
I have tried disabling auto-play in the config page to no avail, and am not interested in installing add-ons to accomplish a task that should be handled by the browser itself.
So, does anyone know of a method to accomplish this with FireFox's own settings, or alternatively recommend a browser that does not have this offensive behavior ?
    Thanks in advance...

I think the built-in setting (media.autoplay.enabled) relates to the HTML5 player and doesn't apply to plugins such as the Flash player. You usually can tell whether it's a plugin-based player by right-clicking it and checking whether it has a proprietary context menu instead of the normal Firefox menu.
To control when plugins start, you can use the "Ask to Activate" permission setting. You can adjust this setting on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Then on the right side, change the permission for Shockwave Flash (for example) from Always Activate to Ask to Activate. ''(If you have plugins that run in the background or globally, such as security plugins, you may encounter problems using Ask to Activate for those.)''
Of course, once you give permission to a site, each new page you load from that site will be able to auto-start its videos. Taking detailed control of that ''does'' require an add-on. I think this one might be the best integrated with the standard permission feature:

  • I was wondering if I import my bookmarks from another computer will this overwrite the bookmarks I already have?

I was wondering if I import bookmarks from another computer will they overwrite bookmarks I already have? Is there a way to prevent this?

It depends upon the method used to import the bookmarks.
Firefox can import from two formats, if you import the JSON format it will overwrite the bookmarks that already exist. If you import from the HTML format it will add the bookmarks that are imported to those that already exist.
To use the HTML format see the following links.

  • I wish to permanently block a website from our browsers, is this possible?

just wondering if it is possible to block a website with no records of it happening

you can try an add on called blocksite , it does totally block the site :-)
there is an option to enable warning messages , i think if that is unchecked it will block with no indication , it also has a password option .
    hope this helps :-)
