I fail to see the logic.

In the last month or so I tried finding a way to change the TTL for incoming packets on my WRT54GL router. I have a ISP that changes the TTL to all packets to 1, a situation that I am sure many users are in.
I was amazed to find out that the firmware for this router doesn't have an option to change the TTL, an option that is crucial for many users. What's the logic of having a Linux based OS if you are going to restrict all access to it for your users? Why do I have to change the firmware to an open firware just so I can set the TTL on my router?
Why won't Linksys do something about this?

So, to be more specific: I'm currently back home in Belgium with no hope for support for a device bought in the US. Does anyone have suggestions for getting the device repaired? I also noticed that the device charges briefly before the Sony and Xperia logos appear. When in fastboot mode, it only charges up to 36%, not further, no matter how long it charges. A final odd thing is that the device is only recognized by my computer when in fastboot or flash mode. These are the devices listed by lsusb under Linux: * flash mode: Bus 001 Device 009: ID 0fce:adde Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB C2005 (Xperia M dual) in service mode * fastboot mode: Bus 001 Device 014: ID 0fce:0dde Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB Xperia Mini Pro Bootloader Shouldn't it also be a valid USB device when simply powered on?

Trying to import .dmd file and want to see the logical & physical diagram

Can some one guide me how to import a .dmd file which i got from client. In my local machine i downloaded datamodeller and installed.
When i am trying to import the same, i am not able to see any logical or physical relationship diagram.

Hi,
As well as the .dmd file, the folder containing the .dmd file should also contain a folder with the same name - e.g. MyModel.dmd plus folder MyModel.
If you've only got the .dmd file, you will need to get the associated folder and all its contents as well - the most convenient way is to get your client to use Winzip to zip up the .dmd file and its companion folder.
You can then unzip it and open the .dmd file in Data Modeler, using Open on the File menu.
The Logical and Relational diagrams should then be shown on the Logical and Relational tabs in Data Modeler.

ESXi 5 cannot see the logical array

Hello,
I am installing a brand new UCS C220 M3BE for CUCMBE 8.6.2 (with UnityConnection). As far as I understood the documentation, I am supposed to install ESXi first. I have got an ESXi cd that was shipped with the box (version 5.0). Also, in CIMC I have got an LSI MegaRAID SAS 9266-8i, and the box came with a pre-configured RAID 10 array of four drives (total of 929GB usable).
The problem so far is that I cannot get the ESXi installation to recognize the logical drive.
I have not got any experience with UCS servers. So far, I only know a few things about ESXi and I have had it set up in a home lab with CUCM.
Do I need the drivers package from cisco.com? I am downloading it just now, however, I don't see an option during the ESXi installation allowing me to specify any drivers...
Any ideas?

I managed to get the hypervisor installed with the ISO from vmware (the cisco modified), and also got CUCM 8.6.2a up and running. ESXi got activated with the master serial number that I got with the package. The one thing that I have never done before is to install Unity Connection. Now, since this is a BE6K, are they supposed to run on the same VM or separate?
I followed the guide for installing CUCM on virtual infrastructure from OVA, but could not find any concrete information about Unity...
Might be a daft question but I am really confused, so far. I do not understand what are the general steps to get the BE6K on the UCS. Does anyone know what is it supposed to look like in the end (how many VMs, are they all deployed separate from OVAs)? Also, is it normal to receive the box with nothing preinstalled on it?
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, it seems that Toahiba has not improved their driver releases. As they repackage the nVidia drivers, a straight nVidia driver will seldom install properly. I had a Toshiba Satellite (biggest, baddest in its day), and it never got a video driver update. No nVidia drivers would install. I found this Web site, and for the five years that I used that laptop, it rewrapped every new nVidia driver, to install on the Toshiba: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers.
Predicated on a similar Toshiba thread, I checked for that old Satellite, and Toshiba had not issued a new one, four years later - so their one driver was about 9 years old at that point.

Making Linux to see the logical drive

Hi all,
I have a basic question about configuring StorEdge 3320 arrays. I have managed to create a logical drive, now to mount this drive, I need to make linux know about it. I don't know how to tell Linux to rescan and discover all the available drives (I would prefer if it does not involve rebooting). I can currently see devices
/dev/sdc and /dec/sdd
But neither of them are readable by fdisk (it says, unable to open). I am running RHEL5.

In kernel 2.4 there were ways how to rescan the bus, unfortunately kernel 2.6 doesn't have it. I know that both Qlogic and Emulex provide scrips for rescaning the bus without need to reboot the box or unload and load back the driver.

Will certainly separate the decent ones from the shill ad rags! Music Radar (an obvious shill site) site just gave it a glowing review with no mention of obvious and easilly reproducible bugs. Music Radar review reads like a feature list from Apple's site. They don't seem to have actually used it to any depth or they would have run into problems. Will be interesting to see what SOS have to say, they usually tell it like it is more than most.

They'll all be good to be honest, they need the advertising revenue at the moment.

No sound after recording but i see the notes on Logic

No sound after recording with my Keyboard. My keyboard make the sound when i record it but after there is no playback i see the notes on Logic but nothing. And if i try to copy or cut and paste the part i record from the keyboard it work after..i really don't understand!

Does it say Midi Ch 1 in the event list for the Midi region you recorded?
This is most likely to be User error... but to identify what exactly.... and to rule out any corrupted settings in LPX..
Try trashing Logic's preferences and CS prefs as per this support note.
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

You do have a SI loaded in yes?
You are using an Instrument Track yes?
You are not usimg an external Instrument track are you?
If you drag an Audio loop from the loop browser to an Audio track.. can you hear sound on playback?
Please post a screenshot of your arrange window showing the channel strip for the track you recorded midi to... That will help us see how you have set things up.

Creative Cloud fails to see installed apps

I have installed Creative Cloud in a non-standard way. I install the applications on a separate drive from the operating system (and indeed where Adobe insists that Creative Cloud installs itself), this is done for all of my applications as it means that, usually, a re-install of the operating system for whatever reason doesn't require re-downloading and installing everything again.
Recently the C drive failed completely and had to be replaced. All of the CC (2014 versions) applications still exit and can still be launched from the drive they were installed on, but the CC application itself fails to see the installed app's.
I've tried changing the installation folder to the one where they all are; changing the language; signing in and out after each action; and deleting/renaming the file in the OOBE folder.
So, two questions :
Why does CC not have an installation path other than C drive? There is nothing in it that requires it be there.
How do I make CC "see" all of the applications that are already installed? (N.B. deleting the folders and re-downloading isn't a solution, it's a work-around that is clumsy and stupid, putting the entire onus on the customer)
Finally, am I the only one who finds the CC launcher to be the biggest PITA of the new version of CS? Every other version I've used worked and updated faultlessly, the latest version just seems to be an absolute mess.

The install info is stored in the opm.db and caps.db files and those went down the drain with your system drive. There is no way to restore it without reinstalling. The rest is not worth debating. Things just are as they are.

Test using the computer's built-in audio hardware

Start Logic with a different project template
Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Logic. Don't see the account type pop-up in the add user panel in Server

My 10.8 server was set up out-of-the-box to host network accounts via Open Directory. No Prob. We created various users for my laboratory, all works swimmingly.
Today, for fun, giggles, etc, I've bound the server to my uni's Active Directory server - my hopes, to be able to add users to my laboratory's network/server services setup from the master super authentication server.
The AD server was bound via the Users & Groups -> Login Options -> Network Account Server button (it shows 'Multiple' now- the original OD server, set up via the initial server configuration helper utility, and the uni's AD server)
I go into Server's Users panel I see Local Users, Local Network Users, and Users from <Active Directory Domain>
The Directory Utility shows the AD Domain in its search path.
If I enable network logins on the server (In the Users & Groups System Preferences) any ol' user from the AD server can log in, it creates a mobile, managed directory, etc. All is OK. I've disabled this as I'd rather not folks log into the server... just me the admin.
I want, instead, to 'import' user accounts, by hand, from the AD server, as is shown/enunciated here:

When I hit step #3, eg, selecting the 'Type' of account to add I fail to see the 'Type pop-up menu'. Reading on -

yet, I most certainly am, as per the above.
Any thoughts here?

I confirm that Java Platform plugin can't be found on Thunderbird addon manager neither on mozilla website.
Maybe the plugin is handled by Java now?
On Linux (Debian Wheezy) I installed these two packages and works fine:

Where is the LOGIC folder ???

Hi. I installed Logic 7 on my Dual 2.3 for the first time today . I have 2 hard drives , one just for audio , so the install went to my system drive. Under applications i can see the Logic Icon which opens the program. Where is the physical folder , i mean where r the EXS24 samples etc.
Sorry its my first week with OSX.....
I shall be upgrading to 7.1 soon , so i will need to delete all this before installing that wont i ??

Hey Faisal,
OSX, sorts all applications right down in the application folder. Asscociated folders and documents are sorted in a folder called Application Support.
So your "Logic folder" is located here: system drive/library/Aplication Support
You actually have another one here also: User(probably your name)/Library/Application Support
This one is for your own saved patches etc.
So the Factory Library to your Exs 24 are located in the first and your own will be located in the second, by default. You don't have to follow this though.
You will not have to delete anything to run the updater, actually, you really shouldn't!
