I feel bad, cuz I'm such a newb....

i feel bad because i always come onto this forum whenever i
have some flash project to do, and i'm usually in hysterics about
some easy-to-do thing (and because it's usually so obvious to most
people, few tutorials bother going into the details i need). I have
zero flash advice to offer anyone else due to my severe
flashtardation, but if someone can tell me how to make a page open
up in a separate browser window (see my previous q about linking,
in which David Stiller helped a lot), I could try to help you with
a NON flash query that relates to either 1) anything Legend of
Zelda or 2) relationships (my friends call me the Sage), or 3) cats
(wow, do I sound like the opposite of a herb or WHAT?)
:D

Swedemily,
Do you want to control the size of the browser window that
opens up? Or
just open in a new browser window?
If it is just a new browser window use this:
getURL("yourPage.html", "_blank")
If you want to control the size of the window, you need some
javascript of
the html page the swf resides on and then you call the
javascript action.
Here is a sample:

Hope that helps.

  • Feel bad for asking this but

I'm new to this forum and only just bought an 80GB iPod classic. Anyway, I don't actually like the menu displays. I never put cover art on my iPod and it also annoys me when you see a track and instead of the cover art it comes up with a grey box and question mark. Is there any way or any software you can use to either get rid of these, or change the display settings for it to be like the menus of a 5th generation iPod?
I feel bad for asking, feel bad for not liking the new screen designs, but can anyone please help me out?

There is not way to change it short of hacking the iPod, and I don't know of any that are currently available. You could find someone with a late 5th Gen iPod and trade with them.
Why not put the cover are on it and go with the flow..so to speak.

  • Midi files feels bad

i dont know why my midi music(and the sound in games) sounds bad but the mp3 wma and audio cd feels ok. i have quicktime 6.03

48 MB, if that is accurate, is not a lot of memory. To improve sound playback other than from CD's, add more RAM memory.
Alternatively, you could try to turn off networking, load Open Transport only when necessary, disable more extensions you are not currently using.
Maybe its time for a newer old Mac.

  • My iphone 5 is making me feel bad

Hi guys I have a few problems here. First of all my iphone Is making me feel sick, these zooming effects are really making my head spin, and then there is the white, too much white, makes my eyes really hurt... I have to go to setting and invert the color so my eyes won't hurt. Now I want to rant about some other problems I am having with my iphone. Why can I only have 9 apps in the folder before I have to scroll to the next page? And worst of all those 9 apps in a single page are take up the whole screen.  Another thing is the animations, all these fancy 5 second long animations remind me of the time I walked into the att store and played around with the windows phones... Just takes so dam long... When I unlock my iphone, I can't do anything for 5 seconds, even when the animations finished, there is still that second of not being able to click anything or pull up the control centre. So here are my questions:
How do I make the whites black without using the revert colors option (pictures get screwed up) and it really hurts my eyes when the light is off before I go to sleep.
How do I fit more apps into one folder page without taking to dam long to scroll the find the app I am looking for?
How do I get rid of the zooming?
Can we be able to make the iphone fade instead of the headhurting zoom animations?
And no. Do not suggest the reduce motion option, that option doesn't do smack!

You can get *some* relief by going to Settings > General > Accessibility menu (look for the "Reduce Motion" option).  This does not turn off all the effects, but it might help.

  • How do I get the new version of iTunes to display images with podcasts (such as those from UK national Gallery)?

Since installing iTunes 11 for mac the box at bottom L corner that used to show CD covers has gone - shame but not disastrous. However, i've also lost the illustrations that were transmitted with podcasts - such as those from the UK's National Gallery and the Queen!!!
Anyone know if there is a setting to switch them back on, please?

Don't feel bad, sometimes even the most obvious is hard to find. One of the things I do like about Apple products is there is a lot of un-documented features that you will stumble upon, even after years of using the same programs and features. Kind of like Easter eggs.

  • I bought a iPhone on Craigslist and come to find out its a in store demo :( is there anything I can do with it? I don't want to go through the whole calling police and such, but if I have to I will. Luckily I was smart enough to get the sellers license.

I don't really want to call police, even though I got license plate of the seller. Especially if I'm wrong, I'd feel bad. Can you buy a demo? What can I do with it? Can I call my phone company or go somewhere to verify it? I should've asked all this before I spent $400 on it :(

    Contact Apple and ask them...

  • How can you definitively tell if your GPS chipset is bad?

I purchased a "certified pre-owned" iPhone 5 about a month ago and the GPS is horribly off without Wifi. This makes it neigh impossible to use the phone as a GPS while driving, trying to track my run, etc., which are all major features of having an iPhone. If I'm at home, turn off the wifi, and let it sit for ten minutes to acquire a signal, it does no better. In short, without wifi, it doesn't work. How can I be sure my GPS chipset is not defective?

    Hi @KarenC_VZW
I truly wish you were correct , but my experience with @VZWSupport has been very different. In fairness to my fellow consumers, I'm compelled to share my experience so they can determine for themselves whether a certified pre-owned phone from Verizon is a good purchase. In my experience so far, it is not.  I'm hoping that my situation can be resolved amicably, but I'm losing hope.
I purchased my certified pre-owned phone directly from VerizonWireless in July. In August, I determined the phone was defective. I called Verizon's technical support, and they confirmed the phone was defective, and that it would be an easy thing to fix. I could simply go to a Verizon store directly, and they would repair or replace the phone.
But this was not the case. The Verizon Wireless stores are actually franchises. My local stores, and a VerizonWireless customer service representative got in touch with all of them, will not exchange a device unless the parent company sends them a new phone first, because otherwise they'd have to absorb the cost. The customer service line refused to send a new phone, arguing it was the local franchisee who should pay to replace the phone.
In short, after six hours of phone calls, Naomi from Customer Care promised to give me a full refund and a free months service because I had been treated so poorly, and that this refund would take three to five business days to effectuate. Six business days later, I still had no refund. I called again, and over another four hours of calls, I learned that Naomi never submitted the paperwork in the first place, and that I was no further than I was before.
In short, Verizon promised to replace any defective pre-owned phones that they sold within 90 days of purchase. I purchased my phone 30 days ago and it is defective, but Verizon has in effect refused to honor the warranty. Their internal processes are so confused that, although they agree there is a warranty, they cannot agree on who internally is obligated to honor it.
I really hope this situation can be resolved amicably. I'm a lawyer, and this would be an easy case for me to win in small claims court. I don't want it to get that far, but I don't what else to do. I feel bad for people who do not have the same legal training that I do, and don't know how to enforce a warranty through the courts. Karen, I would love to discuss this further with you privately if you can. I want this be resolved quickly and easily.
I will report back later to let everyone know how my case has been resolved.

  • Satellite M115-S1061 - display issue - bad colors

According to my daughter, her Satellite laptop running XP-SP2 suddenly went dim. At first I thought it might be the backlight inverter so I obtained a replacement but changing that failed to make any improvement.
Experimenting with the display settings it became apparent that many of the display colors were not what they should have been and I began to think something had happened to the LCD or its cabling causing the loss of one of the primary colors i.e.: blue however, upon rebooting I observed plenty of blue from the diplay until XP fully booted.
While changing themes and setting in an attempt to obtain a mere usable display, it became increasingly obvious that there is some type of video inversion going on.
That said, I can find no setting that would could cause this or any similar report of this malady. I have swept for any virus and gone back several restore points with no findings or imprivement.
The driver has not been updated so there is no ability to rollback to an earlier iteration and a search for an update indicates the current dirver is the latest.
Also, as noted, during initial boot-up the display appears to be of relatively normal brightness and the colors are as they should be...
It is not until the XP desktop launches that things go astray.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as school is back in session and I either get this resolved and get a new laptop!
    TIA,
    Bob

    Hi
    > Also, as noted, during initial boot-up the display appears to be of relatively normal brightness and the colors are as they should be... It is not until the XP desktop launches that things go astray.
According to your description I believe that this might be a graphic card problem.
I would really recommend connecting an second, external display/monitor to this notebook to check if the same bad colors would be visible on the external monitor.
If the same bad colors would appear at the same time on the second monitor then the issue could be really related to a bad GPU chip
In such case a replacement (motherboard) would be necessary

  • Subscreen in badi

    Hi
how to add a subscreen to a transaction through badi
can any one give me example
    thanks,
    kiran

    Hi Kiran,
That is only possible if a BADI is foreseen for such a transaction. In such case just take a look at the BADI documentation.
    Regards,
    John.

  • Happy with 2nd replacement, don't feel dumb

I am on my 2nd replacement and have been quite happy. I haven't noticed the antenna problem. I don't like people trying to make me feel dumb for having an iphone 4. I think it is sad that people are using Consumer Reports to decide their purchases. It is merely a tool to use. But in the end, each of us should decide for ourselves and if you are not happy with a purchase, take it back. But you shouldn't be making others feel bad if they don't agree with you and like their choice. So many posters here seem so upset and unhappy with their purchases. Return them and be done. I had decided that if there were problems with this 2nd replacement, that was what I was going to do, and I had told the supervisor I was working with that that was what I was going to do. But I am happy with this 2nd replacement.

    Thanks for the excellent post.
After reading many of the posts here, my opinion is that both sides should be a little more considerate of the other. Even the "experts" are a bit schizophrenic: on the one hand CR says it's the best smartphone out there, on the other hand they state that there may be a hardware issue that makes the reception poor for a significant number of people and so they can't recommend it.
There are those (and probably a majority in my opinion)who are having no problems (perhaps because they are using a case or bumper or perhaps they just get great reception and they're lucky to not have to use anything)They are trying to insinuate that there's no problem or minimizing the problem for those who are experiencing one. "Put it in a case" or "just get a bumper" is insulting to those who normally don't use their phone like that. They shouldn't be forced to do that to get their phone to work. They are frustrated and deserve to have a phone that works in a way a reasonable person would expect it to.
Yet on the other hand, there are those that are having problems who rather than return their phone, just sit and complain and insinuate that those who don't have problems are just too stupid to realize it. They rant on and on demanding a recall and making it seem that this is the most serious problem facing the world today. Personally, I think that if everyone that had a problem with the phone returned it, it would send much more of a message than demanding a response from Apple on a user to user technical support forum. Even Steve Jobs stated that whoever is unhappy with the iPhone can return it within 30 days with no restocking fee.
So there you have it. Those that have no problems should enjoy their phone. It's a great phone with fabulous features. Those that have problems should definitely return their phone and find one that will work better for them. No side is wrong. At the end of the day, you should have a phone that works for you and one that you're happy with.
    Just my 0.02.

  • Got it!!....Felt bad

So I noticed yesterday at UPS online that a delivery attempt was made.  I called UPS to see about picking it up at their location instead of waiting until the next day and they told me Verizon would have to authorize that.  I called verizon and (they hadn't heard of needing to do this) they tried calling UPS but the phones were busy.  I decided to just push my luck and drive the 25 min to the UPS center with the "missed you" note.  Walked in and noticed a few people standing around with nobody at the desk.  They ALL looked distraught and I could tell they were also awaiting their iPhones.  Anyway, a lady comes from the back and says "iphone package?", I nod, "did you set up will call?", no...verizon couldn't get through.  I hand her the ticket and she gets on the phone to the warehouse.  In the meantime, another lady keeps coming from the back and telling the other people bad news one after the other "don't know when your driver will be back" "i don't see your information in the system"! and the worst "we can't find your package"!!!!  I start sweating, but after about 6 min. my lady hangs up and says, "got it, let me run back and get it".  She returns, I smile, I turnaround and hang my head low to not make eye contact with the unfortunate.  I'm sorry fellow iPhone buyers/UPS picker uppers.  I hope things worked out for you in the end!
Since then, got home, everything set up easily, contacts, email, music, the apps I wanted.  Loving it!  Bye bye Droid.

lol...nothing to feel bad about. life aint fair but yesterday was your day!!!! i've picked up stuff before, but i know to call to find out if the driver is back yet. if it's still out on the truck, there's nothing ups can do for them. they should've called first.

  • Are Creative still supporting older cards such as the Audigy

I've noticed that drivers haven't been updated since October 2006. Does this mean that Creative are dropping the product? I doubt that nothing has broken since then.
I'm currently trying to cure my computer of BSoD woes pointing at ha0kx2k.sys among other things. But the only driver I can't update are my Creative ones. What gives?
Other sound problems that are bugging me are:
Snap, crackle, pop while playing World of Warcraft (The WoW forums have a large thread with people posting about this, but no fix has been found)
Sounds cutting out while playing Colin McRae's DiRT. Mainly the sound of my own engine fades out. It cuts out all of a sudden, but comes back when I let go of my accel key and pressing it again.
Any help with the above problems?

Don't feel bad, there's hasn't been an update for the new cards either in a while. X-Fi hasn't had an update since Dec '06 and until recently around 2 weeks ago or so, and that update caused more headaches than anything else. Maybe you're better off not updating your drivers for a while. Looks like most of the resources has been allocated to the mp3 players stuff, instead of us gamers. Can't really blame them, they sell tons more players than they do sound cards.

  • Texting...feel dumb asking, but how do I text with my Palm Pre?

Sorry my first post on this great forum has to be such a newbie one, but no one in this area at the various Verizon offices know anything at all about the Palm Pre. All Blackberry brain-washed it seems. Anyway, I can't seem to find simple steps to texting and when I do what one person finally told me to do, it ends up as an AOL email.
    Help! and thanks, Kate
Post relates to: Pre 2 p102una (Unlocked NA)

The application you're looking for is the Messaging app. Open your keyboard and type mess (or if you forget that, typing sms will also show its icon). Tap the Messaging app and you're ready to text away!

  • This is such a dumb question - excuse me....

Sorry, but I have really been scratching my head over this and have actually run it past the tech guys at work and they aren't clear either.
I am getting some new mac stuff as payment for some illustration work. I've gone for a new iMac, with Leopard of course, and I want to go wireless. I am also going to ask for an airport extreme.
So, I have a 'box' installed (technical aren't I!!) by Scarlet - a Belgian ISP - which plugs into the phone line. Into that needs to go an ethernet router and my land line. The phone calls will be made over the internet (I thiiink - they certainly go through the 'box).
Question, the airport extreme is an ethernet router, right? So I plug that physically into the box provided by the ISP - which is connected to a phone socket - and, once all is configured (anyone out there live in Brussels and fancy earning a few quid/euros???), the iMac and my old PB should be fine? So what is the airport express?
There's a 'card' in the computer, airport extreme, airport express, modems and this 'box' thing from Scarlet. I'm beginning to panic gently.
Am I bying the right thing if I buy airport extreme? Is that all I need to get going? Thanks and sorry such a newbie question. Just don't want to get the wrong thing.

Question, the airport extreme is an ethernet router, right?
The AirPort Extreme Base Station is a wireless Internet router with a built-in Ethernet switch.
So I plug that physically into the box provided by the ISP - which is connected to a phone socket - and, once all is configured (anyone out there live in Brussels and fancy earning a few quid/euros???), the iMac and my old PB should be fine?
Sounds like this "box" provided by your ISP is a ADSL modem, and if so, then yes this should work with the base station and have it provide Internet access to both the iMac and PowerBook.
So what is the airport express?
The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is another wireless Internet router manufactured by Apple. It's primary difference with the AirPort Extreme is that it allows streaming iTunes to your speakers/stereo ... and it is much more portable.
There's a 'card' in the computer, airport extreme, airport express, modems and this 'box' thing from Scarlet. I'm beginning to panic gently.
Not to worry. Apple doesn't help when it came to naming conventions ... as AirPort is used for both their routers and their wireless adapters, like the one built into the iMac. (which is called an AirPort Extreme Card). Take a look at the following Apple article to help "see" the differences: Identifying AirPort hardware
Am I bying the right thing if I buy airport extreme? Is that all I need to get going? Thanks and sorry such a newbie question. Just don't want to get the wrong thing.
From your network description, the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) sounds like it would be the best Apple router option.
