I feel like an IDIOT! Please help me...

I have had my iBook for 2 1/2 yrs now, and until now just used it to store photos & music, do some desktop publishing & word processing. I decided to venture into the "iMovie" application which is interesting. I'm trying to make a movie from pictures in iPhoto which is doing fine but not i'm having MAJOR probs.
1. The text in my "title pages" looks good on the preview & fuzzy during the movie.
2. Sometimes while playing the movie to see how the music sounds with the pics, it "stutters", whereas in iPhoto the slideshow plays flawlessly.
3. I(thought I) finished my movie & hit the "Create iDvd" button, and I get a message that says 'COMPATIBLE VERSION OF IDVD REQUIRED, VERSION 3.0 OR GREATER REQUIRED'
****When I called Applecare, they said all I needed to do was go online & do an update, but I can't figure out what "update" i'm looking for. PLUS... (I don't know if this matters or not) I don't have an "iDvd" icon on my computer, just the button within iMovie.
Sorry for the long post, but i'm getting extremely frustrated, and I just want to finish this movie as a Memorial cousin who was killed last year to give to his mom.

1) Text always looks better on the computer because it has much higher resolution than a TV so once in the movie it is downgraded to TV format. It will probably look better on an actual TV but still not as good as a computer.
2) What processor and speed is your computer? It could very well be a problem with the processor not being able to keep up with everything. Sometimes you get this when previewing, but after sending to a DVD or tape it plays fine.
3) Do you have a Superdrive on your computer? If your computer is an older one that didn't come with a Superdrive, then it didn't come with iDVD.

Feels like a virus please help

My computer is acting weird. Almost all programs are no longer working. Everything quits, from system profiler, photobooth, installer, to Quicktime, & QuarkXpress. Programs that open are missing letters in the menu bars and websites like aol also have letters missing. Please help everything worked fine yesterday, and I have tried restarting several times.

From the fact that you are running 10.4.10 You've had your Mac for quite a while apparently without previous problems.
Let me re-assure you that it's highly unlikely that you have a virus and I'm not aware of any hacker issues likely to affect you either.
I don't know whether you are familiar with routine maintenance procedures which you can do yourself.
Let me start with repair permissions. For this you open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder. In the LH column select your internal hard drive, eg Macintosh HD (or whatever other name it has been given), then click on Repair permissions on the RH side. If there is a list of ...is..., should be... and at the end of the process (about 10 mins) 'Permissions repaired'. Run the repair again to ensure that all repairs have been done. It's a good idea to restart the computer. If there is no longer any problem you have solved your problem. Otherwise,
1) Ensure that you have a backup of all files you don't want to lose - buy an external drive (firewire preferably) if you don't already have one, big enough to copy the whole of your hd and use a program like Carbon Copy Cloner for your backup.
2) Startup from the original installation dvd by inserting it, restarting holding the c key til you see the Apple logo. Select your language if that's the first screen. On the next screen go to Tools/Disk Utility but this time do a Repair disk after selecting your hd. If any repairs were necessary rerun this until there are no more unless you get a message 'Repairs unable to be repaired' or similar. If repairs were needed restart as normal and check whether the problem has gone. If still no luck:
3) Download the combo version of 10.4.11 from Apple/Support/Downloads and instal this. After installation do another Repair permissions then check whether the problem persists.
Please let us know which process has given success, if any.

iOS updates can take a while, try back in an hour or so. My iPad took half an hour for an incremental update. And that was on a fast home WiFi.

I think you answered your own question. As your friends phones are not iPhones, but maybe Nokia or Android the smiley will appear as a different character or box. Thew only way to fix this would be to send a basic smile using the basic keyboard so that your friends will receive it as a smile and you will when they reply. Or ask your friends to check if the phones they are using have the emoji type keyboard available and ask them to update their phones. This will show the smiley when they reply to you.

Just wondering if anyone shares how I feel. I bought a G5 Imac 2.1 Ghz a little over a month ago, I am doing some video editing etc.....
Now with this new one out so soon, I feel like an idiot buying the other one (20' inch at $1700).... I could really use the extra speed (if it's true that it's twice as fast.)
I wish they would have offered some type of an upgrade offer for people who bought their Imacs just recently..
Anyone understand me?!!

I was planing to wait until the intel macs came out to buy a new computer (My first Mac btw).... but when the G5 iMacs with iSight came out, i couldn't resist... and convinced myself that i would be waiting a long while till the intel macs were released... so i got one...
now i'm ******...
sure, the new ones might have a few problems, but i can handle that, i would rather that, than this G5 that is going to age FAR quicker than the new Intel ones... and my iMac is only ONE MONTH old... and it is out of date already!!

Do you have any voice memos that were created on your iPhone?
Did you include music videos?
If the iPhone isn't behaving like other iPhones, try restarting or restoring it.

Did you ever figure out how to get them back? The same thing happened to me yesterday. I was able to open the file in VLC media player (you can download this app), but the file had been corrupted. It was only the last clip I had recorded, all the others were lost. Even the clip that will play is messed up

Preloader problem - feel like an idiot

I feel like a total idiot. I can't seem to get my
preloader to work. Here's my code. What am I doing wrong? The
problem is that myApp.swf loads successfully but the .onEnterFrame
function thinks that loader_mc is 1 frame and 0 bytes long.

Again, I much appreciate your help. I had put some trace
statements in trying to find out what getBytesLoaded/Total were and
they were coming back with values I didn't understand, so I kept
thinking it was trying to get the values of the empty_mc I had
instantiated instead of the thing I was trying to load and I kept
scratching my head as to why and tried a lot of different things
and was baffled. At any rate, in the end I think it's a timing
issue if I understand correctly. In other words, I think the
function started executing before it could really grab the correct
information about the .swf that I was trying to load. Is that
right?
Oh well, I'm out of the ditch with that silly problem now and
moving on to my next set of challenges. :-)

It appears like you may have a hardware issue with your ringer button and internal speaker that came to light after the update. If you have already restored your iPhone back to factory settings using iTunes, you may need to have your phone serviced.
Some potential good news... Check your headphone jack for lint. There may be enough to cause a muffled connection. You can try to blow it out with compressed air or very carefully pulling out any solid objects that may affect the connection.

You can hold down on the "control" key as you click the trackpad button. You can also enable an option if you hold two fingers down on the trackpad to get a right-click when you click on the trackpad button in the Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences. You also have the option of using a mouse that has a right button, it should be recognized by Mac OS X automatically.

Okay....I feel like an idiot

Trying to burn a dvd from iMovie 08 to iDvD 08. GEEZ! My movie project does not transfer to iDVD 08. I can't burn from iMovie and when I try to transfer to iDVD, I cannot find a way to burn a simple video. It ends up copying like a test disc. Once done, I open the dvd, and it appears with a menu item and doesn't just play on my computer. When I load it on my dvd, it shows that stupid menu page with Root as the main subheading. On the pc, Roxio just burns a video to a disc and bingo. Instant video. I cannot figure out how to transfer in a proper manner. Please.....Help.

To add to what AppleMan has already said, you need to "author" the DVD. That is, you need to encode your iMovie project output to MPEG-2 video content and multiplex it with either PCM audio (in the case of iDVD or DVD Studio Pro) or AC3 audio (in the case of Toast or DVD Studio Pro), add certain additional files which tells the DVD player which files to play and in what order, etc. Strictly speaking, the "templates" and menus are not required. You can, for instance, can create "insert and play" DVDs with Toast or DVD Studio Pro (or even turn an iDVD image files into such using an external utility) but this is not the normal way iDVD authors its DVDs.

Upon restarting my computer (which runs OSX 10.6.8), one of my 23 inch Cinema Displays is flickering like crazy. Please help!!!

I use two 23" apple cinemas displays with my MacPro. Several times in the past, when I've restarted the computer one of the monitor is flickering as soon as it powers up. One of those times I shut the computer down again right away and restarted and the problem went away. Another time it stopped after sitting for a while. But it has just happened again....and this time, no matter how often I restart, or how long I've let it sit, the monitor continues to flicker. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i know its not java but ive posted on sql forums and got no where, so i was hoping someone here would know how to do what i want to do

im trying to sort a shopping basket into the most popular products
so if the data was
basketID||orderID||productID||quantity
1||1||2||1
2||1||3||6
3||1||4||1
4||2||2||1

6||3||4||1
then im using this statement
SELECT productID,COUNT(*) AS cat_num FROM shopbasket_table GROUP BY productID ORDER BY cat_num DESC LIMIT 0,10
which sorts them like
productID
4
2
3
but this doesnt take in to account the quantity in the basket which it really should
as product 3 has 6 in the basket
so it should be
3
4
2
anyone know enough about sql to know what im missing from my statement?
