- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple stor and see what they can do. Make sure y have proof that the iPod is yours. The iOS 7 activation lock is working

You can hide them via your computer's iTunes : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases - Apple Support
The 'x' might not show on their top left corner (it might be invisible), but clicking where it should be should hide the app.

My brother-in-law gave me his iPad and it has a padlock in middle of upper screen. I was able to restore it to factorysettings, but still cant do anything with it. Cant even sign on to iPad for configuration. I don't know what to do!!!

If you have not taken the iPod apart, Apple will exchange it for a refurbished one for $99. You can do it an an Apple store

The iPod 3g will only support iOS up to 4.2.1 and nothing beyond that.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

The instructions are in that link. Just follow them VERY CAREFULLY. Especially the part about:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes. [but DON'T connect it to the iPhone yet]
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see the iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. I keep getting a message saying: "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on this iPod. Would you like to authorize this computer for the items purchased from the iTunes store?" I have authorized the new PC, but it continues to ask me over and over, and if I authorize it again, it tells me I already authorized. So frustrating! I deactivated the old PC and activated the new one.
Also, I purchased a song from iTunes store and while it shows in my library on the PC, it won't download to the iPod. Why won't the new song download to the iPod?
