I find myself in a major pickle, my OS X partition seems to be gone?

I installed Windows 7 using Boot Camp and split the hard drive into 2 partitions in the process. I don’t know why I did this, but as I was trying to divide my Windows partition into two partitions (one for the OS and one for my files) I accidently converted my entire HDD from a basic disk to a dynamic disk. Stupid, I know... This was done after booting Windows.
I then used TestDisk to convert the HDD back to a basic disk (stupid, I know…) and sure enough, the HDD is now back to being a basic disk. Only problem is, my OS X partition is gone. Well, not gone – it’s there all right, but it just sits there as an unallocated partition.
My question is, is there any hope of reinstalling Lion? And how do I do that without a working OS X partition (Lion does not boot after I messed up the disk using TestDisk). Windows 7 boots just fine.
I have a brand new Mac Air with no external CD drive. And of course no install disk.
And maybe this goes without saying - this is my first encounter with a Mac. And just to be clear, I don’t blame the Mac, I blame myself...

And with the possibility of a solution that close I had no choice but to get into my car and drive home to give this a try. Please don't tell my boss (but I'm sure he'll understand).
I booted up pressing down command-R and 'boy was I happy to see that something appeared to be going on! After a few seconds a menu appeared, and I was able to choose Internet Recovery and then proceeded to connect to my wireless network.
After the longest 15 minutes of my life everything was ready, and I was able to repartition the hard drive (losing Windows 7 in the process, but I'll just reinstall that later tonight) and start the installation of Lion! I happily left my Mac running with 2h10m left of the installation process.
If everything goes well, and I don't see why not, order should once again be restored by the time I get home from work.
A big thank you to all who helped me out!
And an even bigger thank you to the genius at Apple who came up with the idea of adding such a brilliant utility as Internet Restore. If you ever find yourself in Norway, I'll buy you a beer! Or, I'll buy you as many beers as you like. And with beer at $19 for a pint in this wonderfully overtaxed country, that's no small token of appreciation at all

Hi, my iphoto had a transparent ? mark on it and wouldn't open so I dragged it onto the desk top and now it has disappeared... I cannot find it anywhere in my finder, it seems to be gone, please help!

You have one and possibly two problems.
First problem you tried to open the iPhoto library with iTunes and appeared to have set iTunes as the default app for iPhoto Libraries. That isn;t going to work.
To fix that select the iPhoto library in the Finder and do a File->Get Info. In the middle of the Info window you'll see Open With dropbox. Click on that and select iPhoto, then select the Change All button
This will get iPhoto back as the default app to open iPhoto Libraries.
Double click the library now and if nothing else is wrong iPhoto will open the library. If it does do as Michael wrote and go to the Applications folder and drag iPhoto to the dock to remake the shortcut.
However since you started this thread by saying that the iPhoto shortcut in the dock had a question mark on it it is possible that iPhoto is missing from your Applications folder. If it is post back.

  • ICloud (Find My Mac) won't recognize my Lion Recovery Partition.

When I open the iCloud prefs, Find My Mac is greyed out and says "Recovery partition required." My recovery partion is bootable and working.
This happened after I resized my partitions using GParted. As mentioned, I tested the Recovery Partition right after resizing them, and it still works.
Here is the output of 'diskutil list /dev/disk0':

I tried using the RecoveryHDUpdate from Apple, but no dice. When selecting an install disk, it gave this error with a yellow triangle icon:
Lion Recovery Update can't be installed on this disk. An error occurred while evaluating JavaScript for the package.
Selecting the Recovery HD itself yielded a different yellow triangle error:
Lion Recovery Update can't be installed on this disk. This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7.

  • Can't find myself and questions I have submitted

difficult to use Communities although I would like to.  Can't fine my account or question I have posted let alone answers.  Below is my latest.
"IPhone problems. Opening the e-mail attachments.
On the iPhone 4S I could not open attachments to e-mail that had been sent from my computer to myself (or from my computer to others with a copy to myself. My Operating System Is Window 7 and Outlook 2007 (not Express) for e-mail.  The problem involved all suffix.
Regardless of what the attachment suffix was it showed up on my iphone as “winmail.dat (  kb)” and when I tried to open the attachment, I got the message “attachment cannot be opened”.
I put my question your “communities” and got a lot of comment “got the same problem.  If you find a solution let me know.”  but no answers that worked.  So I searched “communities for days and finally got the answer.
As a last resort I used Google over and over and tucked in a corner was “Winmail.dat attachments – MozillaZine Knowledge Base”.  The Bulletin said that the problem was Outlook which uses “TNEF” for attachments when others do not.  The fix was “Disabling TNEF in Outlook”. You do that by going in Outlook to “Tools” then to “Options” then to “mail format” then to “send in this message format”  then chose and click “plain text” then “ok”.  Other choice were “rich text” or “HTML”.  Mine was already set in “HTML”.  It worked. ButWHAT A JOB!  HOPE I HELP SOMEONE ELSE.

  • I was messing around with my find my iPhone app but I have an iPad .so I looked so find myself and it showed my iPad .where I was. But it said iPad of someone. (That person was not me but my cousin. How can I fix that.

I need help . My find my iPhone  app has a different name under it. I have and iPad

Touch or tap the field that you want to use/select and it should get a box around it ; then double-tap that field to activate/type it. Once you've entered your password you can do the same (i.e. touch to select, double-tap to activate) to gradually get into  Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver and turn it off.
So to enter your passcode you first need to tap the 'slide to unlock' button to hightlight it (it should get a box around it), then double-tap it to unlock it. Then for your passcode tap the digit that you want and it should get a box around it; then double-tap that digit to type it; and similar for the other three digits in your passcode.
The manual (http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad) also that you should be able to switch voice-over off by connecting to your computer's iTunes :
Turn VoiceOver on or off in iTunes: Select iPad in the iTunes sidebar. In the Options section of the Summary pane, click Configure Universal Access. Select VoiceOver, then click OK.
So select Configure Universal Access at the bottom of the Summary tab and set Seeing to Neither

  • Wow how can i find myself out of this? Need to find the service provider of the phone !!

So i bought a blackberry pearl 8100 and it is black and silver in color.
I don't know what its service provider is.
Its clearly not an AT&T since it gives the invalid simcard sign when its in it.
The only way how i can get it to work is by unlocking it.
But i can't unlock it witt not knowing the service provider or am i wrong with that assumption?
So is there anyway i how could figure out the service provider of the phone

You want to know the branded vendor of the device.
On the keyboard on the homescreen, type E A C E (or with the Suretype keyboard, R A C E).
There will not be a place to type these letters, just type them.
Then, find the Vendor ID on that Help! page.
    and refer here:  http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/RIM_Vendor_Codes

  • Hi there i was given an ipadm1st generation not so long ago but the person to whom it beloged never updated the software so i find myself with an ipad 64gb on ios 3.2.2 is there no way of updating?

Am i stuck on this old software?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.1.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

    How to install iOS 6

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 7.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
     Cheers, Tom

  • I have two apple Id accounts... I would like to talk to someone about deleting one... as I purchase a new iphone I find myself being charged twice for apps I have paid for....

    hello

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here and they don't monitor these forums - I've asked the hosts to remove yout account ids from your post.
In terms of combining accounts it's not currently possible to do so, nor to copy/transfer content from account to another.

  • I find myself unable to pinch to home screen while using iPad Air..it  hapenned twice

While I was opening some applications and then I wanted to pinch to home screen but I found it doesn't work then I tried closing the opened applications then I tried pinching ..finally it works.. This happened twice ..is it just an incident or there is something wrong in my ipad

As Bob said Newsstand doesn't always pinch to close.  In my limited experience it has behaved differently in different versions of the iOS, and behaves differently for different magazines.
Otherwise, were you using all 5 fingers?
You don't have a practical joker friend who may have turned multitasking gestures off in Settings?

  • I have vision issues and I find myself having to adjust the the page to a larger setting by zooming or using the control+plus feature on my keyboard to inlarge the page.Is there a way I can make these adjustments permanent for every page I link to?

I just upgraded to Windows 7 and since then I have to enlarge the screen every time I go to a new page.I need to make these adjustments permanent if possible.Thanks.
P.S. Could this be a Microsoft phenomenon?
IE doesn't do it,but Firefox and Google Chrome does.

There are some add-ons that can be used to change the zoom level on all sites, for example:
    * NoSquint - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/
    * Default FullZoom Level - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Dathanb
You have posted in the Feedback About New Discussions forum.
As you are a first time poster, you seem to have missed the text at the top of this forum that says:

Because your post doesn't indicate was OS you are using on your iMac, I can't give you a link to the most appropriate forum.
Basically, though, the version of TechTool on the AppleCare disks is not compatible with newer versions of OS X and/or Macs (I can't remember which). If you don't get a satisfactory response by posting in the appropriate iMac or OS X forum, I suggest you take your iMac to the geniuses at the Apple Store.
