I FIXED IT! (the "update" problem)

I'm sure others had figured this out first, but here it is anyway - to all those looking to fix the 2006-1-10 "update" that apple gave us..I have a nano and got this to work. Take note - YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MUSIC IF YOU DO THIS!!!
1. Open Windows Explorer or My COmputer.
2. Plug in your iPod and look for "Removable disk" to show up.
3. Right click on "Removable disk" and select "Format"
4. Click "Start", and answer yes to the "Are you sure" question.
5. This will format the entire iPod - again, you will lose your music!!!!
6. Start up the your old iPod updater software (mine was 2005-9-23).
6. At this point, I clicked "Restore" (I did not try Update -I'm done screwing around with updates.) Since you've already lost your music, the update doesn't matter.
7. Let the Ipod do it's Restore thing, eventually you will get back to a familiar screen.
Breathe deep - it's fixed.
Intel P4   Windows XP Pro

I managed to de-vegitable my ipod through a couple of tries following the instructions from this link:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=334615&tstart=0
This is the second time that my ipod turned into an iSchiavo... I'm not impressed. So I'm loading the music back onto my computer and it will randomly just disconnect halfway through the update. NONE of the music will come back onto my iPod though. Right now I'm trying for a third time and hopefully it goes through or apple has lost a customer to Creative Labs. If anyone has an explanation for this let me know... also, with that link, it might take a couple of cracks at it. Just be patient and DON'T reinstall that update. If it aint broke dont fix it.

Likely someone does but Apple has not stated if/wehn.
I have a list of three to four hundred repairs everytime I use the repair program. ~Mike.
Then don't use the repair program unless you are actually having an issue.

What model of Mac?  I have a MBP running 10.7.3 and do not have that issue.  From the other couple of posts I've seen about it, it seems to be maybe an issue with some iMacs?  Have your tried searching the Lion or iMac forums for similar issues, just to see if anyone has hit on why it is happening?

  • Has the updating problem been solved?

My feed was approved earlier today, but I am having some problems getting my page on the iTunes store to update.
    RSS: http://davefarmar.libsyn.com/rss

(Note: I have already pinged iTunes per the spec. I have also already tested the feed via a manual subscription request through the iTunes pulldown menu and successfully received the updated files.)
Modifications made to my initial episode are not appearing on my iTunes store page.
A test post that I added has also not appeared at the store.
Has the updating problem, which I saw posted about shortly before the new year, been solved?
    Thanks, Dave.

Looks like I just needed to be more patient (the updates have now showed up . . . sorry).

  • A fix for the crash problem.

Firefox has been extremely annoying on an XP machine with it's constant crash reports requiring uninstall and reinstall several times till it starts working again. However, periodically repairing Firefox was worth the headache for the benefit of Firefox’s performance. Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 was installed hoping it contained the fix for the crash report problem; it didn't. BUT, the new crash report post-mortum file list provides another means to identify a probable cause. The file list was discovered after about the third crash and it was noted that Firefox was attempting to load an internet filter dll file from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM instead of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 which had the correct version. Evidently, the internet filter program update placed the newer version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and did nothing with the older version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or the registry mapping. A copy of the newer version dll was placed in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and it has been smooth sailing with Firefox ever since. Thanks for adding the post –mortum file list; it provided a means to identify and fix the problem. Firefox is working great and the snail’s pace Internet Explorer 8 has been retired. Thanks again!

  • Has there been a fix for the speakerphone problem?

I recently had to return two N97 handsets due to the fact that the speakerphone on the handsets worked poorly. Contacts I called using speakerphone repeatedly told me I was "breaking up." Speakerphone volume was also mediocre, compared to other N series handsets I have owned. When the problem occured with the second handset I settled on returning the phone and waiting until I knew more about the problem and whether Nokia was aware of it and preparing a fix for it. I no longer own the phone and have gone back to using my trusty and very excellent, but old N958GB.
Can someone/anyone tell me whether this particular bug on this handset has even been identified by Nokia and whether it has been fixed? Is the problem with the speakerphone a software issue or is this a hardware/mic/factory issue? If this is an isolated problem and it was simply a "bad batch" I would be prepared to buy the phone agan, but based on my reading on this forum, this is not a completely isolated problem.
Basically, I'm waiting to find out whether (a) Nokia knows this is a problem, (b) it can be fixed via software upgrade, or (c) this is a design flaw with the handset that's not fixable remotely. Any help users can give would really be greatly appreciated, as I would love to purchase the phone and update my handset at long last.

    Hi
Does anyone know anything about this? At least, can anyone who had an update that has improved the phone say whether the update solved that problem, if they were experiencing the problem with the loudpspeaker before?

    Hello CraigNicholson
You would need to sync with iTunes to get that process to work for you. Check out the article below for more information on how to resolve that issue to get the proper token to use Push Notifications again.

  • Have they solved the update problem yet?

I just thought i'd start the post again since the other one was shut down. I currently have a 40gb 4th generation clickwheel ipod and like so many other people the last update appears to have disrupted something. After scouring these forums i did notice that someone mentioned something about the drive /E: might be the cause of this, however i was unable to get the computer to read the file and thus change the letter. My ipod's symptoms not only included not coneccting to iTunes but playing a few seconds of a song and then skipping it or not playing songs at all. I uninstalled the update and reinstalled from the disk. Unfortunately, i had some valuable data stored onto my iPod as i used it as a thumbnail drive and had no means to retrieve the data.

Assuming you are referring to the January 2006 updater, then no new software update has been released since then. No one here can say when Apple will release the next one.

  • What's going on with the update problem?

I still can't attach my ipod to my machine and play any music. Additionally, if I try to update any data on the iPod (song titles, artist names, etc), this also ultimately ends up freezing my machine (spinning beachball). I've got the most recent update here, and I believe this to be the cause of the problem. I am also totally updated on my OS. 2nd Generation iPod, plenty of songs -- works fine other than the lousy battery situation (didn't have my receipt, so couldn't participate in the class action suit). Anyway, working straight from the ipod to headphones, everything works fine. I just can't add any new songs anymore.
What gives? Hasn't worked with the new updates. Apple, are you listening?

I have a 4G 40 gig iPod that would lock up my computer if I plugged it in (Win XP). It would skip songs, freeze, do all kinds of weird stuff accompanied by a clicking sound. If your iPod is doing this, most people I have read about (including myself) found that by hitting your iPod hard on the right side seems to fix the problem. Mine wasn't working for about two weeks, I finally gave up all the other things I was doing and tried it. Now it works fine again. I also thought it was the "1-10-2006" updater, but I think it was just something loose in the iPod.

  • Urgant problem for the updating problem  HELP

Dear sir/miss,On 2008.12.01 one of our partner company consultant, setup an update(SAPKH50016 AND SAPKH50017) page on our production system without and test in the test system.
Now our transaction code CV03N,CV02N,CV01N can not be used, jump out abap problems as below:
It's already give us very big impact to our SAP system,so please tell me how to deal with it.

    What happened?
    Error in ABAP application program.
The current ABAP program "CL_EX_DOCUMENT_MAIN02=========CP" had to be
    terminated because one of the
    statements could not be executed.
This is probably due to an error in the ABAP program.
    What can you do?
Print out the error message (using the "Print" function)
and make a note of the actions and input that caused the
    error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
    date.
is especially useful if you want to keep a particular message.
    Error analysis
An exception occurred. This exception is dealt with in more detail below
. The exception, which is assigned to the class 'CX_SY_MOVE_CAST_ERROR', wa

    "IF_EX_DOCUMENT_MAIN02~D100_BEFORE_PAI" "(METHOD)"
Since the caller of the procedure could not have expected this exception
to occur, the running program was terminated.
The reason for the exception is:
A 'CAST' operation ('?=' or 'MOVE ?TO') tried to assign an object or
interface variable to a reference variable.
However, the contents of the source variable do not fit in the target.

    How to correct the error
If the error occurred in one of your own programs or in an SAP program
that you modified, try to correct it yourself.
You may able to find an interim solution to the problem
in the SAP note system. If you have access to the note system yourself,
    use the following search criteria:
    "MOVE_CAST_ERROR" CX_SY_MOVE_CAST_ERRORC
    "CL_EX_DOCUMENT_MAIN02=========CP" or "CL_EX_DOCUMENT_MAIN02=========CM007"
    "IF_EX_DOCUMENT_MAIN02~D100_BEFORE_PAI"
If you cannot solve the problem yourself and you wish to send
an error message to SAP, include the following documents:
    1. A printout of the problem description (short dump)
To obtain this, select in the current display "System->List->
    Save->Local File (unconverted)".
    2. A suitable printout of the system log
To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes
after the short dump. In the display, then select the function
    "System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)".
    3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,
    supply the source code.
To do this, select the Editor function "Further Utilities->
    Upload/Download->Download".
    4. Details regarding the conditions under which the error occurred
or which actions and input led to the error.
The exception must either be prevented, caught within the procedure
    "IF_EX_DOCUMENT_MAIN02~D100_BEFORE_PAI"
"(METHOD)", or declared in the procedure's RAISING clause.

  • I downloaded iOS 5 and then I found my Apps were missing. So then I looked it up on the web then found the fix. The only problem is that half the apps I downloaded are gone. One of my favorite, Angry Birds, which I bought is also gone.

I need help! I downloaded iOS 5 on my iPod 3rd generation after backing EVERYTHIGN up 4 times and I think I might have synced it. But just forget that I synced anything. So then when I tried to Restore Back-up it DID NOT work. This was my first time using iTunes, and I ALWAYS download throught the APP store. So then I found the fix online. I actually found 3 different ways:
A). Go to the App store and then go to 'UPDATES' then go to Purchased and download everything you need.
    - This didn't work for halfmy apps.
B). Go to the iTunes store, go to File > Sync iPod then wait a LOOOOOOOOONG time.
    - This also did not work, and not just in the case of my missing apps, all my apps were just sitting there. Nothing happened. I deemed this as USELESS.
C). I have a premonition that this option should work, but I can't find it. I have to go to the SUMMARY tab under device settings then click restore. The onlyproblem is, I CAN'T FIND IT! It probably should work.
BOTTOM LINE: Some of my favorite Apps such as Angy Birds and Madden NFL '11 are now gone. I have no idea what happened. And my backed-up iPod on iTunes only has like 14 apps out of 100sof Apps.
PLEASE HELP - SLL ANSWERS GET 5 POINTS

Have you looked on all the pages of your iPod?  Have you looked in all your folders?  Have you you tried finding the apps using the iPod's search page.
PS: Offering points in advance is a violation of there terms of service for this forum.  Perhaps it's why you have not received any other answers so far,

  • Has anyone found a soloution to the update problem(update ipod to v1.2)

It seems alot of people are having this problem, the ipod wound update to v1.2 and an error message keeps coming up saying error code 1417 or something like that

it might be worth trying an update to itunes 7.0.2.16, and trying the 1.2 update using that. (i've seen fewer of the 1417s since that came out.) here's a link:

  • Nokia Software Team...Why all the update problems?...

Do the nokia software team ever look at this forum? I really dont think so because they would know the problems that people, not just on this forum, but also other forums are having with the Nokia Service Updates. I do realise that many people have updated various models with success, but also a great number have had many different problems. Certain key features no longer work, phone dies totally half way through updating, phone freezes, wifi problems, and these are just a few of the problems encountered. Firmware and software updates are meant to eliminate these problems NOT create them. You really would think that the years of experience in this industry that nokia would get it right. I have used various Sonyericsson phones in the past and successfully updated the software at home using their update service on many ocassions and never had a single issue. My N91 has been taken to the service center, and i will never have the confidence to try and update at home again!!

I have posted before on this subject.
Im sure many users have had success with this fantastic bit of kit , and is welcomed by some who do not have a local Nokia Service centre, and annoys others who's handset is not supported yet !
I have been reading many posts from users who have lost items from the menu systems and other features and worse their handsets going off line.
I would like to bet that when this came online the Nokia engineers were shaking their heads in dismay waiting for their doors to open for people coming in with a frustrated worried look on their faces.

  • Proposed Fix for the Gradient Problem (programmers please read)

I think I realised a solution for the problem.
The problem, as I see it:
a great number of the screens have brightness and/or colour distortion. It is more severe on some machines than others and some people are more sensitive to it than others.
    A solution:
A simple background compensation utility. It would let the user manually calibrate the screen in red, green, and blue channels. the user would choose a channel and define multiple horizontal and vertical gradients over hot areas of the screen. That way we could calibrate our screens to the darkest spots in each colour channel. The screen would end up dimmer overall but at least it would be even -- and we could then compensate for much of the dimness by increasing the brightness slider (although few 'graphics people' run their screens at full brightness).
Since OS X has total control over every pixel displayed, this should be a simple, small application to write. It's just too bad that I'm not nearly smart enough to know where to begin!
Now, if some of you smart people reading this know how, please, please get to it cause I also don't want to return my Mac.
    Cheers

No hard feelings. Just having some fun with ya. I have been following this issue on the before mentioned post for the last 2 days now and remember seeing this fix of yours along with a few other creative ideas as well. Glad it works for you but I don't think Apple should leave us to fix their problems with super glue, duck tape or what ever.

It's all good fun thanks for the link. I certainly agree that apple shouldn't leave us to devise our own workarounds for a potentially faulty product. Now that I have addressed and fixed the antenna issue I can say that I am completely satisfied with my iPhone 4. I don't plan on putting a case on it but I think I'll spend another $29 on front and rear shields so that I can at least set it down without fear of scratching it. Thanks

I don't know if this has been posted, but I tried a few fixes and didn't found this one, so I hope it helps. I have only tried in Windows XP, but it should be similar for other OS
-Get your iPod in Disk mode.
    -Connect it to your PC.
-On Windows Explorer, look for the iPod and open it.
-Delete iPod Control. It's a hidden folder. I read that the problem is caused by videos, so deleting only them should work.
-Open iTunes and restore iPod normally.
-It will reset and work as usually.
I have only tried this once, so please post your opinion to improve the guide :P

Nice ... I'll have to bookmark this in case it happens to me again. Sounds plausible at least, I'd like to hear what happens when others do this.
