‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • Incorrect password on ipad mini when trying to con...

Can anyone help, just had the BTHub 4 installed and my laptop, daughter's ipad and iphone all have connected with no problems. However my ipad mini just returns 'incorrect password' and won't connect.
I have tried resetting the hub, I have reset Network Settings on the ipad and all other various combinations...but am getting nowhere.
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks in advance

When i tried with the mini i had a problem but noticed that the mini made the first letter a block capital but the password was actually lower case. When i changed to lower case connected right away

  • Forgot restriction password on iPad mini

Unfortunately I have forgot the restriction password on my kind's iPad mini. I have found discussions explaining that I need to reset the device to default factory to solve the issue and reset the pwd.
My kinds have photo and games. I would like to know if the following series might work to recover apps and photos:
    1) backup all contents on iCloud
    2) reset the device to default factory
    3) restore the backup via iCloud
Will it work? Or will action 3) recover the old forgotten pwd?
Is there a way to reset the device (including the restriction pwd) and THEN restore photos and apps?
    Thanks! Giusec

Restoring from the backup that was made while the Restriction Code was in place will restore the Restriction Code.
You'll have to copy all data and files to your computer or iCloud, then restore, then copy all files and data back after you copy back all the apps.

You don't reset it, you either restore from a backup made before you implemented the password, or you restore as a new device.

  • Won't accept my Wi Fi password on IPad mini

Got a new I Pad Mini and have had no problems getting my I Phone 4s or other devices to recognize router password but get an error dismiss on my I pad mini screen even though my wi fi shows on wi fi's available - what is the problem?  I have shut down the I pad and turned back on and still continue to get the same message dismiss.  What do I do next?

If you are absolutely sure that you are entering the password correctly, try resetting Network Settings on the iPad, reboot the iPad and then try to join the network again.
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • How to reset password on ipad mini

How do I rest my password on my iPad mni?

Which password, the passcode to unlock the iPad, your iTunes account's password ?
If you've forgotten the passcode to unlock your iPad and you therefore can't unlock it then you will need to connect it to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
For your iTunes account, if you can't remember it then try http://iforgot.apple.com

I have an IPad mini and I changed the Apple ID and the password almost one year ago and, for a while, a message asking me to sign in to ICloud pops- up constantly. My ICloud account is registered with an old email address and password. I do not remember the password to my ICloud account, and ID address that my ICloud account is registered under is an old email adress which is deleted right now (the old mail account is deleted). I don’t have a rescue email adress and I don’t know the answers to the security questions, so I have no way of changing the ICloud password. A message asking me to sign in to ICloud pops up constantly, but I always just hit cancel. However, now I am unable to access Find My IPad. How do I get my ICloud account changed and registered to be under my current Apple ID (email) and password? It is possible to set the device as New Ipad?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

  • TS4268 Why i cant use my iMessage in my ipad mini? I use the same id and password in my iphone

Someone help me with the problem i have. I cant log in into my iMessage in my iPad mini using the same account i am using in my iPhone. I checked the spelling of the password and username they are all correct but still i cant use it on iMessage. Somebody help me. Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Just enter your existing details, don't try creating a new account.
