‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

For your iPad's passcode, follow the instructions on the HT1212 page that you posted from, they tell you how to reset a device : Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled.
If you've also forgotten your answers to your account's security questions (being able to answer them won't get you access to your iPad, that needs your passcode) then if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then you can use that to reset them : If you forgot the answers to your Apple ID security questions.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.

Actually, you will have to restore the iPad to factory settings to reset the passcode for restrictions. If you restore from a backup, you will simply be restoring the passcode back onto the device that you cannot remember and you will back exactly where you started. If you are really talking about the passcode to unlock the device - then you will need recovery mode - referenced at the bottom.
Restore to factory settings and then rebuild your iPad from scratch - syncing apps, music, and all content again with iTunes. You will have to set up email accounts, WfFi settings, etc. as well.

HT4946 I have an ipad gen 3 and forgot my "restrictions" password. How can fix?

I have reset my ipad to the factory settings and was able to reset the restrictions pw. I then restored my ipad from a backup but it also restored my password(s).
1) Can I make a backup and NOT include backing up the "settings" such as password?
2) Can I somehow simply reset my restrictions password?
3) other?
I'm okay if all the settings go away ... but I want to ensure that I keep my data/itunes/etc.

If the restrictions passcode was on the iPad when the backup was taken (which it appears to be if it's there when you've restored) then you won't be able to use that backup - a restore is all or nothing.
Whilst the restore is still on the iPad you can copy important documents, notes, photos off the iPad e.g. via file sharing, transfer via your wifi network, dropbox, email, depending upon what the apps support. Things like your music, films, TV shows, and the actual apps (just their content/settings are included) aren't included in a backup, the restore picks them up from your iTunes library.

After that, create a new user account with administrative privleges and then delete the old user account.
Make sure to copy any data from the old account that you may want, as afterwards it won't be accessible.
Or, use the OS install discs to erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS.

Forgot Certificate database password. How to retrieve it?

We are using iPlanet Webserver 4.1 . One Sun PKI Certificate is already applied on this server. Now we don't have the password to re-apply or install new certificate. Is there anyway to retrieve the password as we have the admin server password. Can anyone suggest any solution apart from recreating the certificate dataabse?

There is no way practical to recover the password. (It's theoretically possible to crack the password using brute force, but that would take years of computation time. The password is used to encrypt the private keys used for public key encruption, so it wouldn't make sense to use a cryptographically weak encryption mechanism.)

Keys broken, need to enter Password? How to open onscreen keyboard from login screen?

I have a macbook (just the original white one...I want to say it's a 2008). I haven't used it in a while because my keyboard is broken. I had to have some work done on it (other than replacing the ketboard which I will do later), and when I got it back and cut it on, it came to the login screen where I need to enter my password. My password contains some of the letters on my keyboard that are broken. How do you open the on screen keyboard (where I can use my mouse to type it in) from the login screen? There's no options or anything that I can click on other than where I enter my password. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

I do not have an external keyboard...well I do, but I can't find it at the moment. So if there's any other way around it, that would be helpful
