If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to Restore the device...
Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and Restore...

I had lost my ipod for about a year. I found it today and when I plugged it into my iMac, it had already gotten ios6 in it, I don't understand how. It has the bar under the words ios6 to slide and configure the iPod but when i slide the bar, it wants me to enter the 4 digit screen lock code.
