I forgot my passcode for my 5th gen ipod and it won't restore because the 'Find My iPod' feature is on. What should i do?!?!

I changed my passcode for my iPod but I have forgotten what it is. I tried to restore my iPod through iTunes but it won't because the Find my iPod feature on iCloud is on. What should i do?!

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

I backed up my ipad to the cloud as it had a broken screen so I swaped it out for a new one and now I cant restore because the new Ipad has IOS 6 and my back up is 6.1!  This is what I get for buying an Ipad twice in a week because of a broken screen? $500 the first buy and then another $299 plus tax for the swaped out one that I can't restore with my backup data.

I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.

    Resolution
Update your device to the latest version of iOS to be able to restore the backup.

  • Solution for making 5th gen iPod working under Win98

It seems that there is still a demand for using iPod with Windows 98.
So, thanks to Josh input, I have upgraded iPod Win98 drivers for 5th gen iPods.
Version 2.3 supports both a new video iPods and Nano being backward compatible with 3G, 4G, Mini and Shuffle.
Regarding iTunes replacements I've seen some users reporting success with Winamp iPod plugin v. 1.3.
    More info at http://win98.drivers.w.interia.pl/ipod.html

I know you said windows 98 but do you think it would work on window ME? i've got music on my old computer that i would like to transfer over without re-ripping the CD.

  • Recommend a case for a 5th gen iPod Nano

Just got a 5th Gen Nano and looking for a good case to protect it. I actually got one of these...
    http://www.amazon.com/Incase-Slim-Sleeve-iPod-Nano/dp/B002SK6M7A/ref=sr1_fkmr13?ie=UTF8&qid=1269585897&sr=1-3-fkmr1
...but it's hard to get to the controls with it.
Any suggestions for something to protect the iPod, but allows easy access to all the controls?

I use this one. Pros: Works perfectly. I like the clip on the end as I wear the iPod around my neck or clipped to a waist band if I don't have any pockets.
The leather is sturdy & not in the way of any of the controls. I do not have to remove the case to recharge, use click wheel, hold button & earplugs.
Case was free from the place I purchased my iPod from.
Cons: I have to remove the case to show people the color of my iPod & my custom engraving.

Tried the reset on my ipod, tried rebooting my computer several times. I am running the latest version of Itunes 7.01. I purchased my ipod and computer around (last April or May). HELP!

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • I bought a iPhone 4 for a relative in Lebanon and we want to unlock it so he may use it there. What should we do?

I bought a iPhone 4 version 5.0.1 modem 4.11.08 in the U.S., I am in Lebanon, and want to use it. How can I unlock it or get it operating properly?

If it's a GSM phone, then it's AT&T. They are the only supported GSM carrier in the US.
If you are not or were not an AT&T customer in good standing who either completed your contract or paid the early termination fee, or you can not provide proof of purchase for a no commitement iPhone from either AT&T or Apple, then they will not unlock it for you.

  • 5th Gen Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes. Have tried it all. Any Ideas?

Hello everyone. I have a 5th generation Ipod I recently purchased that I'm having what seems to be an common issue. When I connect the ipod to my computer via USB, the Ipod is not recognized in windows or Itunes. Occasionally the Ipod will charge when connected but not always. Though this is the same for the old wire I used and the new one I purchased today. Even when shown charging the Ipod is not recognized and there is no noise that a device has been connected. I have tried the 4 R's (without Restore) which I can't do, chaninging the drive letter, disabling start up software, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple Software. I have tried connecting to another computer and have gotten the same result. When I check the diagnostic screen on the ipod it shows that a usb cable is detected. I have upgraded all my driver software, disabled and reenabled them. I'm almost 3 hours from the nearest store so that it out of the question. I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas and will try anything you think might be the issue and fix. Thank you for time.

From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes.  Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue.  To update or not to update?  And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista.  My workflow dictates 32b fyi.  One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126),  5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day.  My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12)  Windows mounts it just fine.  itunes is not having it.  no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano.  The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad!  Weird huh?  I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad.  Scanned for intruders.  Cut the Lenovo bloat.  Executed system and reg maintenance.  Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail.  NO NO NO.  Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad.  Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update.  :|
    So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^  last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0  but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?

  • 5th Gen. iPod overall performance

    I need opinions on this:
while playing a song, if I start skipping songs, eventually I hit about a 5+ second lag before it even loads the text for the selected song. I wouldn't have thought this was weird except for the fact that, on a 20GB iPod (color screen), the song selecting seemed much more instantanious with only a 2 or so second lag before loading the new song. This seems to be the case with browsing the photo library as well.
Is this abnormal behavior for my 5th Gen. iPod with just over 16GB of data on it? I didn't check how much space was being used on the 20GB iPod, but does this sound abnormal at all? Should it be performing faster, or is this all relative to how much of the hard drive is being used?

Hacking or modding any iPod goes against Apple's policies for proper use, hence it is not permitted, as per the Terms of Use, to discuss such things on Apple Discussions.
I would suggest visiting some other iPod forums (ilounge.com perhaps) to discuss this.
You're more likely to get a reply if you post there.

  • 5th gen ipod classic

How can i replace the battery for a 5th gen ipod classic? The support centre says it is now "vintage" and can't replace it?

There are still several third party services out there that offer a battery replacement service for the 5G iPod Video.  A Google search for "iPod 5G Battery replacement" should give you a number of results to work with.
Otherwise, you can choose to swap out the battery for a new one yourself using of the many guides found online.  I usually go with the ones over at http://www.ifixit.com.
As for where to find purchase a replacement battery, there are several online retailers and resellers to offer them as well.  Some of the places that offer the replacement service also offer the parts, so you can check there as well.  Just make it the battery is specifically advertised as being for the 5G iPod Video.
