I forgot to deauthorize my computer before it crashed..

I didn't deauthorize my computer before it crashed.. The comp has been disasembled and thrown out san the HD. Therefore, that conputer goes against the 5 that were allowed to have.. Is there a way to contact Apple how to add one back?

You can't deauthorise dead installations or computers you have no access to individually. If you've reached your limit of 5 you have the option to deauthorise them all in one go from your iTunes Store account and start over again. *Just note that you can only use this option once a year*: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation. If you haven't reached the limit of 5 just wait until you do and you'll get the deauthorise all option.
To deauthorise all computers associated with your account:
1. Click iTunes Store in the Source pane.
2. If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
3. Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.

  • Forgot to deauthorize Windows partition before deleting, now won't let me

Hello. I forgot to deauthorize my Windows (Boot Camp) partition and now I can't use the following tip:
"Tip: If you forgot to deauthorize a computer you no longer own, you can deauthorize all of your authorized computers at once. Choose Store > View My Account. You can use this method once a year."
I have no recollection of doing this once after January! I think this "once a year" thing is very unfair and makes accidental forgetfulness unforgiveable. I'm lucky it was my computer though
Anyways, is there a way that I can just deauthorize another computer from one computer or know if I reset the list already?

You cannot yourself deauthorize a computer (or in your case a Windows partition) that's not working or to which you no longer have access. You can authorize a total of up to five systems, so it's probably not really important that you deauthorize your dead partition now. Once you reach five total authorizations (and only when you reach five), the button will appear in your iTunes Music Store account that will allow you to deauthorize all your systems, so that would at that time recover the now-useless authorization.
If for some reason you really feel you need to deauthorize that partition now, you can try contacting the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of their web page and explaining the problem to them. They might be willing to clear your authorizations for you.

How do I deauthorize a computer that has crashed and can't be restarted?

You don't, nor do you need to.
When you reach the limit of 5 then you can deauthorize all.

  • HT1420 I cannot deauthorize my computer because it crashed, what do I do

I cannot deauthoriza my computer from my account because it crashed, how can I deauthorize it now?

About De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
Also, see iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.

  • HT1420 how do I deauthorize a computer that has crashed and cannot be recovered

One of my 5 authorized computer crashed can could not be recovered.  How do I deauthorize it?

There is no reason to do so unless you have reached the max of 5.
If you have reached the max of 5, use the instructions in the link from which you posted your question to deauthorize all then authorize the computers you actually have.

I am looking to deauthorize a crashed computer so that I may use another on. Does anyone know how I would go about doing this when unable to log into that particular device?

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article.

    .

You can't.  However, when you have reached five authorizations, you will have the opportunity to deauthorize all of them and then reauthorize only the ones you still have or use.

  • HT1420 What happens if I accidentally deauthorize a computer

Just had a heck of a time transferring all my music from my pc to my new Mac. I'm scared what deauthorizing could have done or could do if I need to do it to remove old computers.

You can just reauthorize it; while it won't affect the iTunes library, it should be backed up. Deauthorize a computer before you sell it, give it away, upgrade it, or reinstall the OS on it.

  • HT1420 how do i deauthorize a computer i no longer have? or has broken down on me and never had a chance to deauthorize it

how do i deauthorize a computer i no longer have? or has broken down on me and never had a chance to deauthorize it

If you did not deauthorize before selling, you have to deauthorize all from your actual computer:
Remember to deauthorize your computer before you sell it, give it away, or get your computer serviced. Also, make sure you deauthorize your computer before you upgrade your RAM, hard disk or other system components, or reinstall Windows. If you do not deauthorize your computer before you upgrade these components, one computer may use multiple authorizations.

  • Old computer hard drive crashed

My old laptops hard drive crashed and was not salvagable, I was able to get all my music onto my new laptop though. How do I get my iTunes account on my new laptop so I dont lose all my apps, notes, data, ect. so I will still have everything on this computer for when I upgrade the phone.

Open iTunes on your new laptop and sign in with your Apple ID and password.
You should sync your existing iPhone whether or not you intend to upgrade it. When you connect your iPhone to the new laptop, iTunes will ask if you want to "transfer purchases". Select that option.
Make sure your iTunes Library contains all the music you want. Next time you sync your iPhone, all your imported music will go along with it.
"Notes, data, etc" is a bit cryptic though. If you used iCloud, your data will be available on iCloud.
The right way to plan for disaster recovery like yours is to back up your computer before it crashes, and the iPhone is not designed for that task.
Should you find it necessary, ASC contributor turingtest2 posted this comprehensive guide to recovering your iTunes library:

  • Do I need to deauthorize a computer if I have wiped the hard drive clean before I sell it?

I am going to sell my computer. I forgot to deauthorize it in itunes. I have already wiped my hard drive clean. Do I need to still deauthorize this computer and how can it be done?

Once the drive has been wiped, the only way to deauthorize is to Deauthorize All from any computer with iTunes installed.
If the intent was to deauthorize the comptuer, that needed to be done prior to wiping the computer.

  • Sold a computer-forgot to deauthorize it

I am sure this has been answered before, but my searches were unfruitful.
A while ago I sold a Macbook but forgot to deauthorize it for iTunes. There are now some iTunes purchased I made that I had previously authorized on 5 computers (I go through computers like some people go through toothpaste...)
Anyway, there's a handful of songs I can't play ("authorized on 5 computers...") When I attempt to authorize them an old email/account name comes up.
Is there anyway to rescue these tunes?
    Thanks.

    Dave,
I also have computers authorized that are not mine.
I was sent two MacBook Pros that were configured wrong and then replaced.
They are authorized and were probably cleared at the service depot I returned them to, however, they still remain on my list.
I opened my iTunes account and it shows I have 3 machines listed but it gives no way to deauthorize as you suggested. I do see where I can deauthorize this system but not all others.
Where is the button you refer to?

  • Forgot to deauthorize iTunes when changed mac.

I changed mac at work this week and stupidly forgot to deauthorize iTunes before i erased my user account. I still have accsess to the computer but the user is trancferred to my new mac. Can i deauthorize my old mac? I tried to make a new account with the same name as the old one in the old machine. But only get a wrong password message when i try to deauthorize. The password is right, i can log on to iTunes store with it from the old machine but not deauthorize.
    Please help!

Was the HD re-formatted or was a new system installed?
If so, your authorization info, which is/was in a hidden file in the 'Shared' folder, was deleted.
If you have 5 authorizations, you can deauthorize all computers, following the directions in this article.
If you don't have 5 authorizations, you can request the iTunes Store to deauthorize your computers, by using the form on this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/authorization/
    Hope this helps.
