I forgot to select "Show input menu in login options".

Hi. My problem is, I forgot to select "Show input menu in login options". My username and password is in English but my default keyboard is Arabic. Is there any way I can solve the problem? I can't use my laptop because I can't log in. Help!

See if you can find something in the Recovery Mode (You can go into recovery mode by holding Command+R during boot). Type 'resetpassword' in the terminal utility (You can get to the terminal utility by selecting the Utilities menu from the Menu bar).
Reset your password after you get a window when you type resetpassword and see if it works! When you are done, just reboot your computer

  • Why does Input menu (to use different language) not appear?

Hi, I am trying to enter special characters (German umlauts) into a Pages document. So far I am only able to do this via Edit > Special characters where I have to laboriously select and insert my character. So I checked the Help to use a different keyboard layout and got to the page titled "Viewing Keyboard Layouts for Other Languages" - I followed the steps exactly, but the so-called Input menu does not show on my Pages menu bar. Anything else I need to do? Any and all advice welcome - btw I am a new Mac user, I finally made the switch from PC to Mac, so I am still learning my way around.
    Thanks in advance!

System Preferences > Language and Text > Input Sources tab. Top of the left column, tick (check) "Keyboard and Character Viewer", Bottom of window next to search field, tick "Show input menu in menu bar"
System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab; tick "show keyboard and character viewers in menu bar"
For most purposes there's no need to use character viewer or change input source. All the standard diacritical marks and common symbols can be accessed directly from the standard keyboard. ü is produced by pressing alt (option) + U, release them and type U. Similarly é is alt+e, followed by e.
If you open Keyboard Viewer and press the alt (option) key, the location of the marks will be revealed. Note that five of them are highlighted in orange; these are the ones which can be used with multiple  letters (acute, umlaut, gràve, circumflex and tilda)
    Shift+Alt will show more.

  • Menu bar clock and menu bar input menu disappear

Every time I reboot the menu bar clock and the menu bar input menu ("the flag") disappear. I have to re-tick the options in the System Preferences (Date & Time > Clock > Show the date and time; International > Input Menu > Show input menu in menu bar). However, after the next reboot they're gone again. What can I do to keep them there permanently?

You may need to try trashing the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist.
This can be found in HD/User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    Just delete it and reboot.
Then try to set the new preferences.

Lightroom trial doesn't show complete menu selections or import button.  Also get error message on launch:  An error occurred when attempting to change modules.  I am unable to find/see the following file to try renaming the SLCache and SLStore files:  System Library/Application Support/Adobe.  Any ideas?  I only have 16 days left on the trial and have been unable to get it to work on my Macbook Pro.  This is all I am seeing after Lightroom opens.  Thanks!

Thanks to both of you for attempting to help.  I finally figured out what was wrong . . . it was a Permissions problem.  Very frustrating, but after scouring the troubleshooting tips I finally found the one that solved my problem.  I had to add a User and give it Read/Write privileges to Lightroom.  The file I had to add the User to was Hidden on my Mac, so that added an even bigger challenge to the mystery.  Only a few days left on my trial version!  I hope I have time to try it out!

web links do not show as visited according to my color selection in content menu. visited sites/links should be in red, mine are not changing after a visit to a sits. A good example would be a visit to a news article in google. mu colors are set to res for visited sites - it does not happen, in fact nothing changes

Google is using a visited color (#551a8b) that is hardly distinguishable from the unvisited color (#2200cc), so may not notice it.

  • Can not select external input for sound

can not select external input for sound

    Hey there RoosterMonkey,
It sounds like you have Soundtrack Pro installed but you cannot select your external audio device as an input. I recommend the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    Soundtrack Pro 3: Troubleshooting Basics
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3659
Update to the latest software versions
From the Apple () menu, choose Software Update and make sure that you have the most recent updates for your versions of Soundtrack Pro 3, QuickTime, Compressor, Pro Application Support, and other important system files. Installing the latest updates ensures that your software has the latest improvements and enhancements.
Note: Be sure the application is in the Applications folder and is named Soundtrack Pro before running Software Update.
Check compatibility and driver versions for third-party devices
If you're using a third-party sound card, MIDI interface, storage system, control surface, or plug-in, check the support area on the manufacturer's website to be sure that you're using the latest version of the relevant driver or other software for your product. For information on troubleshooting possible issues with Audio Unit plug-ins, go to Soundtrack Pro 3: Troubleshooting Audio Unit plug-in issues.
Try a different Multitrack Project or Audio File Project
Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Soundtrack Pro. To create a fresh project, choose File, then New and select Multitrack Project or Audio File. Test to see if the issue is resolved in the new project.
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Soundtrack Pro to its original settings. This will not impact your project files. To reset your Soundtrack Pro user preference settings to their original state:
Quit Soundtrack Pro if it is open.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu bar.
Type ~/Library/Preferences  in the "Go to the folder" field.
Remove the "com.apple.soundtrackpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Application Support/Soundtrack Pro  in the "Go to the folder" field.
Remove the "EffectsCache.plist" file from the Soundtrack Pro folder.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Application Support/Soundtrack Pro/Layouts  in the "Go to folder" field.
Remove the "Soundtrack Pro.saved.moduleLayout" file from the Layouts folder.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Caches in the "Go to folder" field.
Remove the "com.apple.audiounits.cache" from the Caches folder.
Remove receipts and reinstall Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Soundtrack Pro and Compressor. To do this effectively, you need to remove the applications and their receipts, then install Soundtrack Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. Compressor gets installed automatically when you install Soundtrack Pro. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Soundtrack Pro, so follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Soundtrack Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs handy before beginning.
In Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard or OS X Lion
Open the Terminal application and enter the following commands one at a time and an administrator password when prompted. Note: The commands are case sensitive.
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Compressor
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Qmaster
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.VideoOutSupport
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.PSTSharedA
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.AppleHDVCodec
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.AppleIntermediateCodec
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.DSPPublishing
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.SoundtrackPro
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Uncompressed422
Then, reinstall Soundtrack Pro and Compressor using the following steps:
Open the Applications folder. Drag the Soundtrack Pro and Compressor applications to the Trash.
Insert your Logic Studio or Final Cut Studio installation disc and install Soundtrack Pro.
When finished installing, choose the Apple () menu, then Software Update to update your software to the latest version.
Open Soundtrack Pro to verify that the issue has been resolved.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Input menu changing my default keyboard layout-again.  Grrrr!

This same issue had come up years ago, and I no longer remember with certainty how it was fixed.  It just geared up its ugly head again.  Ever since I can remember, I've been using a custom keyboard layout, which I arbitrarily labeled "Cantabria", that lets me type in seven languages with an absolute minimum of key combos.  I only need a different keyboard layout for Cyrillic (Russian).
The problem is that, in the past few days or weeks, the system arbitrarily  changes my Input Menu to reflect one of the two US English keyboards as the active one, either US or US Extended.  I can't see a pattern.  It just happens.  The Menu Input key combinations are duly disabled, so it's not my accidentally hitting Command+Space.
I thought the solution had been simply to UNcheck both US keyboard options in International, but now it seems you can't do that.  You have to have at least one of them selected.
Any ideas on how to stop this annoyance will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

To my stunned amazement, I just found this other thread from last September with the same issue.  I had no memory of having posted then and I still have no independent recollection of it.  Major senior moment, darn!
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16121983#16121983
Strange that back then I was able to unselect both US English keyboard layouts and now I can't, on the same machine and same OS build.  I'll try deleting the files BDAqua mentions in that other thread.
In attenuating defense of my brain malfunction I can only offer that the other thread is dated the same day my second grandson was born.  My mind was obviously elsewhere.

  • I just connected my Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8 to a IG 32' monitor. What resolution should I select from the menu?

I just connected my wife's Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8 to an IG 32' monitor. What resolution should I select from the menu in order to provide maximum screen appearance? My wife has AMD and a visual acuity of 20/400 with central scotonata.

In System Preferences:Displays you have an option to show
Displays Prefs in the title bar above the screen - where she can
iteratively adjust to her liking. Higher screen resolutions, ironically,
result in smaller characters so adjust to suit. Below, Displays is
    4th from L.
    All best, Tom

  • How to hide/show a menu item?

    Hi,
Pls suggest how to do this:
There is one book( say "one") and one page (say "two") on the portal, which are displayed to user as menu items.
The book has two pages ( say 'a' and 'b'), which are shown in the menu dropdown of "one". I want to show the menu item "two" only if the user selects 'a' and hide it when select 'b'.
meny item 'b' is a page with one portlet.
    Pls suggest.
    thanks

You can implement this with backing files.
    See http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/ipcguide/backing.html for further details.

  • International Keyboard (Input Menu) Oddities

    Hi,
Well this has to be unique, I live in Switzerland and have a iMac Intel with a Swiss keyboard, my system language is English and the input menu is set to Swiss German, everything works fine.
Now, my daughters have their system language set to German and naturally their input menu also set to Swiss German. But here the keys are mapped as the German keyboard which is quite different and annoying for them.
    A bug?
    Regards
    Ian
    iMac Intel 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

There is some sort of bug with the keyboard
    switching
    unfortunately.
To bad Do you think anyone has filed a bug
    report?
Yes. I have. Apple suggested to close it when Tiger came out, but I showed them evidence that the problem still existed.
My favourite remedy is to disable the keyboards
    one
by one in System Preferences > International and
    then
to enable them again. You don't even have to close
    the System Preferences.
Try it. It is done quickly and doesn't hurt.
Does not seem to help in my case, ufortunately... Any
other ideas? Also, do you happen to know where
exactly the International config is stored? I'm
thinking that perhaps I can at least trick it to have
only one input source enabled if I edit "by hand".
I wouldn't recommend editing things by hand, unless you create a special test account to experiment on. However, the easiest way to tell in which file(s) preferences are saved is to open ~/Library/Preferences in a list view and order by date. Make a modification to your preferences, and you will see the newest one pop up to the top (or bottom) of the list almost instantaneously.
