I formated my macbook and now i can't instal os x

Hi
I formatted my macbook 10.6 (the white one) and the process went fine. the problem is when i try to instal the OS X. i put the DVD on the computer but it says 'cannot instal OS X on this computer'.
what should i do?
thank you.

The only reason I can think why the 10.5.6 disk won't work is it's likely marked Disk 2. Disk 1 has the OS on it and is the one which would be required to install the OS your Mac came with.
Since the Mac didn't come with Snow Leopard, the gray disk you have isn't for your Mac and won't work. Purchase the retail Snow Leopard disk from Apple, and that will install. Some points to know:
1) The retail disks do not include software that are on the bundled gray disks, such as Garage Band, iDVD and others. If your gray 10.5.6 disk is marked Disk 2, you should still be able to install those apps from that disk after installing Snow Leopard if you use them.
2) When installing Snow Leopard from the retail disk, make sure to click the Options button and turn on Rosetta, otherwise it won't be installed. That is required to run older PowerPC apps.
3) Lion will not in any way run PowerPC apps directly. You'd have to purchase virtual machine software such as Parallels, and then also purchase Snow Leopard Server to install within the VM in order to run any PPC apps. That's a lot of extra overhead for a 2008 Mac, so if you have no real reason to upgrade to Lion after installing Snow Leopard, don't.
And just to be specifically clear about your Snow Leopard 10.6.x disk. If it looks anything like this:
That's why it doesn't work. It's not for your hardware. The retail disk looks like this and supports a variety of Macs made before its release:

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
Actually, you cannot download Snow Leopard. You downloaded a Snow Leopard updater.

  • I just upgraded to 10.7.3 and now I can't install any applications.

I just upgraded to 10.7.3 and now I can't install any applications. Everything else in the OS and in applications seems to work OK. After the installers ask for the system password, they do nothing. I doesn't hang; it just won't proceed any further in the install process. I can press the back button and it seems to do that just fine. I repaired the disk permissions, but to no avail.
After I installed 10.7.3, I tried to install an updater that was listed as being recommended for Time Machine users. That was the first time I tried to launch an installer of any sort and it did the same as above. I've gathered since then that the update wasn't necessary and was already included in the 10.7.3 I loaded today.
    Any hints?

I'm having a similar problem after installing 10.7.3 and the Messages beta. I've unistalled Mesages with little bit of trouble.. Linc, I followed the step given in your final post any help would be appreciated.
A screenshot of my actual error. I get this error not just for Flash, but also Handbrake. I receieve th error even when I try using a programs automatic update. However, not suprisingly I do not get the message when using Apple's software update.

I threw up the box before installing photoshop elements 13 and now i can not installed my brand new photoshop because i do not have a serial number

When you buy software, the serial number is really what you're buying, since the software is typically downloadable. So don't throw it away in the future.
If you registered the software before you threw away your serial number, then Adobe may have a record of your purchase.

  • I've reinstalled my MacBook Pro (OSX Lion) using a different apple ID, and now I can't install any iLife apps. In the app store it comes up with "Accept" and then tells me It can't accept from my user ID. How can I fix this or get iLife back?

Mostly explained in the title. My dad gave me his MacBook, and I went ahead and wiped all of his stuff by using the recovery partition to wipe/reinstall OSX Lion. In the setup I used a new apple ID and now I can't get iLife apps. I'm relatively new to how apple works its purchases, so I'm not sure what's up. Is it that my computer has a unique ID set to the first apple ID used on it, and if so, how can I get this reset to my ID? I'm planning to get an iPhone 5 soon so I'd like to be able to use photo stream with iPhoto and try out Guitar Band.
    Any help is much appreciated.

If you got the Mac new before July 20, 2011, call AppleCare for the original discs.
If you got the Mac new before March 15, 2010, get the 10.6 retail installer disc from the http://store.apple.com/
If you got the Mac new after July 20, 2011, boot with command-R.
If you have no backup, get a data recovery tool as the hard drive may be failing if command-R doesn't work and the aforementioned solutions don't help.
If it doesn't work but have a backup, you may need to get a new hard drive, or repair the directory with a tool such as Alsoft Disk Warrior.

I inadvertently placed 2 Cds in my Mac and now I cannot eject either one.  Can this be fixed?

If they don't eject while holding the Mouse button down on a bootup, then it's going to require some deft tweezer movements, or possiply something like a Credit Card & double backed tape.

  • IPOD spontaneously formatted to Windows and now I can't retore it with Mac

My IPOD somehow is now formated for Windows. My Itunes doesn't recognize my IPOD and won't let me restore it in the summary tab (IPOD not supported etc...). My Ipod still has data on it (Capacity/Available as shown on the IPOD in the "about" menu in settings) but I can't access any music.
I don't have internet on my Mac so I downloaded the restore and lastest Itunes programs from a different computer and put them on my Mac but to no avail.
How do I convert my IPOD's format back to Mac?
Why did it come out of the closet like this?

I had previously tried to format the disk with the utility but couldn't get it to work (my own ignorance I'm sure).
But using the utility I erased the disk and re-created the single partition. Of course, I was back to the same issue of having Itunes not allowing me to restore the Ipod unless it connects to the internet to check for updates first. The Ipod restore utility stated that the Ipod type is not supported and showed that the Ipod format is still windows.
My plan now is to go to the Apple store where hopefully a sales associate will kindly let me restore my Ipod on a store computer with internet.
It would sure be nice to know why the Ipod just reverted to a windows format.
Thank you for your help thus far.

  • Updated my software on my macbook and now i can't log in

I have updated my software on my 4 year old Macbook to OS X Mountain Lion v10.8 and after installing all my data at start up, I can't log in with my previous password. I have tried all possible passwords and still can't manage to log in.. Is there anyway to restart this password without logging in and without going back to the Apple store?

    Forgot Your Account Password
For Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
        Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
instructions in the dialog window that will appear.
         Or see:
Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password
OS X Mountain Lion- Reset a login password,
OS X Mavericks- Solve password problems,
OS X Lion- Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
If you are going to upgrade your OS X system, then you really should install Mavericks rather than Mountain Lion.

  • Reset Macbook and now I can't re-install Snow Leopard

My mom bought me a late 2009 white Macbook three weeks ago. It was working fine the first few days until I decided to purchase Lion and then two days later it crashed and I had to erase the hard drive and reinstall everything. It took me about a day to fix and reinstall everything, but this time I didn't install Lion. A week later my computer crashed again and I tried to erase the hard drive again and re install Snow Leopard, but this time nothing will install. I'm trying to avoid the hour drive to the closests Apple Store, so if anybody knows how I could fix this it would be great! I'm desperate at this point :/

I actually tried installing the disc again so I could get the message it gives me, but it seems to be installing with no problem. But the message I was getting before was somewhere along the lines "Install failed please restart computer" and then at the bottom it would say to go to disk utilities and repair the disk and I would do that and try to reinstall, but the same message would pop up.

  • Reformatted everything and now I can't install Windows 7 because it needs drivers

    Hello Everyone!
Okay here it is. My family got some viruses on our home laptop and I decided I would wipe the drive and reinstall windows 7. I not only reformatted the hardrive, but all other available drives as well because I was afraid the bad guys could have installed there stuff on the other areas as well. I know now that this was a mistake because I don't have any drivers or settings that came with the laptop when I purchased it. I am installing from an ISO image that I made bootable on a thumb drive. I have tried putting drivers on the same thumbdrive and on an additional thumb drive to access the drivers when the installation requests to upload drivers to continue. The drivers don't show up so I put them on a cd and tried that way but the message states no setup information found. My laptop is an HP Pavilion M6 1045dx. I am installing windows 7 64 bit. I went to HP website to get all the drivers for this laptop at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5273...  . I downloaded all the drivers and they are saved as application files. I don't know if I have to do something else with them to get them to work but if I click on them they just install on my other computer so they are in application file format when I put them on the portable media.
So in short, I need the drivers to install my operating system but the drivers won't install when I am trying to install them. Any suggestions? Thank you everyone!

First, you install the Windows operating system..then you install the drivers. They're not all in the same software package...so once you've got Windows installed you'll run each of the downloaded .exe files separately.
If you're still having problems, I would just recommend ordering the HP Recovery Media. It will put your system back to the factory state without you having to do much work: https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/mediaOrder?softwareitem=694679-001&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&pr...
