I found 2 cool search features in iTunes

I dont know if these are well known or when they were implemented but I just found them this morning by accident. I am using 10.0
On my Macbook Pro I have to use the Fn button but I bet these work on a desktop without the need to use the Fn button.
1. Fn + Ctl + F9 = brings up a search window to look for any song in your iTunes library
2. Fn + Cmd + F9 = brings up a search window to search your playlists

After having to downlonad Adobe Flash Player 64bit because my Mozilla Firefox Browser prompted me to do so, I went to check my Programs And Features to make sure everything was in order.
I was confused when I was asked to download this software because I thought my personal laptop already had this, but I did so anyway, when checking programs and features, I did see I had two identical files.
Is it necessary to have them both? They are exactly the same, nothing shows that they go to anything differenty, yet it seems my Mozilla did not recognize the first.
Since I am not a technical wiz, I need some help. I am afraid to delete any of them. I am afraid to delete the first since my Mozilla seemd to not recognize it, but if I delete the second will my other browser not recogize the second. Or, am I complicating this!
I appreciate your help.
How did 'prompt' come about? Were you viewing a (Flash) site and it suddenly appeared, or what? If it suddenly appeared without warning, could you please post the link to that site.
Are you running Waterfox or Palemoom? These are third party unofficial 64-bit builds of Firefox. The only other 64-bit versions available are the nightly builds. However, due to incompatibility issues with many approved Firefox Add-ons, these builds haven't been officially released yet.
If you're not running either of the first two, nor any other 64-bit versions of Firefox, which version do you currently have installed?

  • ITunes Library Search Features (or lack thereof)

Does anyone know if Apple plans to add an advanced search feature to iTunes for searching the music library? It would be very helpful if I could tell iTunes to limit the search (based on keywords) to songs only, artists only, album title only, etc. If anyone knows of a way to limit searches in this manner please let me know.

And if you select the little triangle next to the magnifying glass on the search field you can limit the search to just an Artist, Album, etc.

  • Cool parsing feature

OK, maybe I am the last one on the planet to discover this. But I accidentally found a cool mail feature today and thought I would mention it.
In a mail message, hover your cursor over a date, address or phone number. A "disclosure arrow" will appear and provide an option to interact with iCal or address book (as appropriate for the data selected).
So if someone sends you an email saying "Don't forget to meet me on December 1" you can create an iCal event from that email in one click. I haven't seen this feature discussed, so maybe it is just old hat and I am late to the party.
Still, I think this is great.

This is the feature that Apple calls data detectors. It lets you perform actions on certain types of data that the text system is able to recognize.

  • Search Problems in iTunes

The search feature in iTunes store on my iphone5 is not working.  The page opens but does not allow me to type in a song to search for downloading.  Any suggestions as to how to get it back.  All other features in the store are available except search.

This issue with the"search" feature in iTunes store is SO frustrating. About 1/2 the time when I open the page, I only get the word "Search" on the page, the rest of the time 99% of the page opens with the exeption of the search box where you can type in the song you want to search.  I have a 4s with the lastest software update.  Nothing changed.  My friend has a 5 and she is experiencing the same issue.  GRRRR....

  • Where is the search feature in the new itunes?

Tap the page of the iBook then tap the magnifying glass for the search feature. Use Notes for your vocabulary list.

  • Itunes Search Feature

Is there a way to make itunes be able to search out words such as where the file is located ex.(x:\music\techno party\), where when I type techno it will pull all songs including the songs in the techno party folder. Winamp will do this but is horrible when it comes to play list. In other words, I would want the search feature to be able to search file and folder directy and just not the info on the file.

By design, iTunes can neither display the folder name nor search on it.
The best way to label your techno songs would be by using the genre field.
Also, if you have a folder of songs that you want to keep together, create a regular playlist and drag the folder into it.

  • Using Search Feature

I have a brand new black Classic and used the Search feature for the first time to find a song/artist and ran into a problem that baffled me.
I was looking for "Rock the Boat" by "The Hues Corporation". I first searched for "HUES" and it returned nothing. Then I searched for "ROCK THE" and "Rock the Boat" came up in the results. Can someone explain why I was able to find the song title but not the artist?
Also, what prompted me to use Search in the first place was because I tried to find "The Hues Corporation" manually under "Artist" but could not find it. However, if I searched for the title under "Song", I found it successfully.
Is this a bug? Does this have anything to do with the Album it's in marked as a "Compilation" in ID3 tag?

Does this have anything to do with the Album it's in marked as a "Compilation" in ID3 tag?
    Yes.
If you have imported any CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To change that info right click and select "get info". This brings up a song info window, and by selecting "options" you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.

  • Feature Request: itunes iphone-ipod interface

I think the iphone UI is fantastic and I'd like to be able to control itunes in a way that would replicate the iphone's ipod UI on my PC screen. I have a very small 800x600 in case touch screen monitor on my media PC, and it would be awesome if I could get a layered interface with big buttons to work on that screen (I can pull up itunes in that small screen, but its too small to navigate - especially by touch). I've searched and searched all over the web but have not been able to find anything like this. I have heard that it is possible to skin itunes, and I have found alternative skins, but so far the only skins I've found do nothing other than change itunes's color. Likewise, I've searched for various desktop widgets to accomplish this task. All I have been able to find are simple remotes which really can't do anything by way of album/song/playlist navigation.
This seems like a natural feature for itunes, and I can't believe that I'm the only one who would want something like this.

  • The search feature in Address Book no longer works

I have over 2,400 contacts. For no apparent reason the search feature in my Apple Address Book no longer works. The  Address Book app has quit several times recently, again for no apparent reason. It is probably unrelated, but Preview has also been quitting. I have repaired permissions and used Disk Warrior 4.4 to rebuild the directory. Any thoughts?

That was a while back...after a little research to jog my memory, it had to do with iCloud. I found this on another page, and I think this is what I did to fix it:
"I had the same problem and fixed it a slightly different (and probably safer) way:
Backup your Address Book - File > Export > Address Book Archive
Go into preferences > iCloud - untick syncing for Contacts
When it asks you, tell it to delete the contacts from your local Mac (all your local address cards will be deleted but they will still be in iCloud)
All your cards should now be deleted from Address Book on your Mac
    Quit Address Book
Go into preferences > iCloud - tick syncing for Contacts (this will download your contacts into Address Book again)
Open Address Book and after a few secs you should see all your cards and the problem should be fixed"
The important part is to be sure to export your Address Book before doing anything. I think I ended up afater deleting all the cards and quitting address book, I reimported them from the backup I exported. Has been fine since. This is pretty safe as long as you have that exported file.

  • PLEASE APPLE, GIVE US SYNCING VIA ITUNES BACK!!!!!! Why take away one of the most valuable features of iTunes???? Why take away our choice of syncing via the Cloud or locally with iTunes????

DO NOT UPGRADE TO MAVERICK UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DEPENDED ON APPLE’S CLOUD. It removes the ability to sync Calendar, Notepad, and Contacts between your apple devices. You then can only sync them via Apple’s Cloud. For those of you like me, that do not want to be depended on an external data base accessible via the Internet or Cel Phone (with data charges).
Why do I not want to use the Cloud to sync and backup?
    1. I found I only have one device with me at a time or am sitting at a computer when I add to my calendar, make a note, or add/change a Contact. Syncing with iTunes while upgrading apps and doing a back up to two external hard drives worked great and met my needs.
    2. I use WiFi and pay for the minimum data plan with my Cel provider (AT&T). I do not want to pay higher monthly data fees.
    3. I do not like a central data base (that will be hacked someday) having the personal info I have in my Notes, Schedule, and Contacts.
    4. I like the security of my most important data being on my own hard drives and written off to Data DVD’s, not subject to even rare central system outages/failures.
    5. I do not like the prospect of becoming dependent on a Cloud in which the provider could decide at any time to either start selling information or charging monthly fees to recover the costs of providing the cloud.
I am reluctant to go to the trouble to go back to 10.8 because Apple will eventual stop providing updates to 10.8 and 10.8 compatible applications.
PLEASE APPLE, GIVE US SYNCING VIA ITUNES BACK!!!!!! Why take away one of the most valuable features of iTunes???? Why take away our choice of syncing via the Cloud or locally with iTunes????

You will need to contact Apple through their feedfack channel. These are user to user forums, sorry.

  • Non-working find/search feature

Neither the Find nor the Search feature works in Adobe reader (the relevant document was downloaded from an online database -- perhaps Academic Search Premier or Ebscot -- I do not recall). A message is returned that word is not found even for a word that I know is in the document. These tools are needed for reviewing documents of hundreds of pages.

If the file is a scanned images of pages, then the words are not really in the pdf file only a picture of the word.

  • Sleep Timer Feature in iTunes via Remote iOS app

I'm not sure this is the venue for this, but I would like the "Remote" iOS app (currently version 3.0.1) to let me set a "sleep timer" when I play a radio station on my iMac iTunes 11. I think this means iTunes must first have a "sleep timer" feature built-in before the Remote app can use it. There have been third-party "sleep timer" add-ons for YEARS, and yet Apple has not deemed it necessary to add the feature into iTunes. Unfortunately, these third-party add-ons cannot be accessed via the Remote app.
    Anyone here found a work-around?

ok so the remote app is grouping all my album artists together under one Artist name: "various artists"
need to find a way to stop this from happening

  • The App Store Search feature appears to be working again.... I hope!

I had the same issue that many users were reporting earlier today about not being able to use the search feature in the App Store. I have been experimenting for the last 15 minutes or so and it is working for me now.
Keep trying ... It may now be coming back for all soon.

It wasn't working for me earlier and I was experiencing the same weird behavior that everyone else seemed to be experiencing. I was getting the "Can't connect to iTunes Store" message when trying to do a search. Everything else worked, just not the search feature,
Anyway, all seems to be OK now. No bizarre workarounds needed.

  • Oracle Help search feature doesn't work with RoboHelp generated output

I am using RoboHelp HTML, Version 10 on Windows 7.  I am able to generate Oracle Help output and integrate it with my Java application.  When I do this, the Content and Index tabs work fine, but the Search feature does not. Regardless of what search term I try, I get no search results.  In generating the Oracle Help output, I used the default options throughout.
Any suggestions as to what is causing this problem?
    Thanks.

    Dear Peter,
I met the following problem, and please help me.
My English (not Chinese) operating system: Windows XP
    Version: 2002
Before using RoboHelp 7 to generate Webhelp, I perform the
    following steps:
    1. Control Panel->Regional Options
    2. On the "Languages" page make sure make sure you check the
box "Install files for East Asian languages".
    3. On the "Advanced" page select "Chinese" from the language
    dropdown list.
Then I perform the following steps:
    1. Use RoboHelp 7 to generate Webhelp (my Webhelp project
    contains localized Chinese files).
    2. In the "Search" tab, input a Chinese character(For example
    "连接") and perform a seach.
    Result: Serching...(or 正在搜索) or
    No topics found (or
    未找到主题)。
Expected result: I can get the result.

  • Search Feature not showing up

Hi, i have a video ipod with software version 1.2.1 installed... and i dont have the search feature ... i though that search was availible for all ipods. Is it not, or am i doing something wrong. When i open iTunes, it shows that i cannot update my ipod, so im guessing that it is updated. I was wondering if i should reinstall the latest update, or what should i do in order to get the search feature?

You can get it by buying a late 2006 5th generation iPod or a 2nd Generation Nano. There is no software update. I have it on my latest Nano and I can't say that it is a feature I would upgrade for.
