I found a temp solution for outlook contact sync

I along with many 5G ipod users are unable to get itunes to sync their microsoft outlook contacts. I found a way to transfer all your contacts fairly quickly by exporting them as vtf contact cards.
What you do, is select all the contacts in outlook you wish to export using shift or control clicks, right click on one, then under "send full contact", click on "In Internet Format (vCard)"
This will open up a separate window that will send all those contacts as attachments in an email. All you need to do is right click on one of the attachments, and choose select all, then right click and choose copy. You can then just paste the files into your contacts folder when your ipod is enabled for disk use.
I know this far from a permanent solution, but until apple can get it's act together and make it properly sync contacts, this will work for me.
Keep in mind I did this with office 2007 beta. It may be slightly different for other versions, so you may have to play around with it a little.
I hope this helps!

At the risk of sounding sarcastic, a good solution is to use a room where you're not going to get the glare.  Something like editing photographs really needs a location where you can properly see and work with colours and contrasts.  Your problem is not your Mac, it's your location!

  • Outlook Contacts Sync - Partial SOLUTION to error (-50)

Im using Outlook 2003. Was getting the error (-50) while trying to sync contacts to my iPod. I resolved it by:
    - Go to the Outlook Contacts View
    - Go to File -> Folder -> Sharing -> Outlook Address Book
    - Click the check box for "Show this folders as an e-mail Address Book"
    - Apply the settings
You should now be able to sync contacts. However, I could only sync a partial list.
    I have not tried calendars.

This works great... but if you find that the check box is greyed out... try this solution first.
Tools>E-Mail accounts>Add new Directory or Address book> Click on Additional Address Books> Chose Outlook Address book> (Then it will tell you to exit outlook and restart outlook> Then you could right click on contacts > Go To Properties > Click on Outlook Address Book (now these options are no longer grayed out) Put your checkmark in Show this folder as an outlook E-Mail address book. and then Click OK.
This DOES NOT solve Calender sync though.

  • Temp solution for e-SATA problems...

Had a talk with CalDigit about this and they say it should work. It's a solution for now until Apple and Sonnet and CalDigit gets their stuff together.
    Here it is:
Use an eSATA Extender. Cost like 30 bucks.
Here's a link where you can buy the thing:

Ignore this last post! I just tried this out and it doesn't work for RAIDs just yet. It might for you but not for me!
    Sorry for the mis-communication!

  • Solution for BBDM Mac sync

I had several problems using BBDM for MAC as have so many others and followed the advice of one the posts on this board. I now cannot find that post so can't give credit to the poster but the solution worked for me and follows:
Delete all prior sync software that you've been using with the bb prior to the BBDM for MAC.
Delete every file for PocketMac; this includes uninstalling software and finding other hidden files via search and emptying trash.
Delete the BBDM for MAC, including the files in the download files on the Mac also and empty trash.
When confident all prior sync software, both PocketMac and the BBDM for mac have been removed and trash empytied; restart your computer.
    Redownload BBDM for MAC.
I had multiple copies of Entourage notes, tasks and certain calendar appts from all my prior attempts to sync with the new software and wanted to wipe the bb clean. When I intially connected the bb to BBDM I backed up the bb and made sure I knew where that file was placed on the MAC. I then used the "clear data" selection under Device on the BBDM toolbar.
I then chose to sync with Entourage for Calendar, Contacts, Notes and Tasks and synced with bb.
I did find that the contact entries on my bb that had been imported from my old cell phone were missing having not been in the Entourage contacts. I found the backup file and used the restore data to restore just my contacts; worked perfectly, no duplcates and my old cellphone contacts were back with my Entourage contacts on the bb.
It seemed to work perfectly; no repeats or loss of data as I had experienced with the initial BBMD use prior to deleting the PocketMac from my computer. I've synced 3 times since and still have just the data I want; two way sync seems to work well, both from appts. added on bb and on calendar, same with notes.
Good luck; sorry I can't give credit where credit is due to the person posting the advice to delete all prior sync software.
    Cheers.

I've run Keychain utility. I also removed (as suggested in various places) any entries referring to my wireless password in KeyChain and allowed them to be memorized again. It doesn't change a thing.
Please understand me correctly. My Airport does re-establish connection automatically (if network details are stored) but connection is extremely flaky, slow and with frequent dropouts. So the Keychain is not to blame here (I think).
If I establish connection 'semi-manually', as described in my previous post, it is perfect, just as it should be. This would indicate to me that the problem lies not with the Keychain, but in the way OS stores network details.
If I do not allow OS to keep network details - re-connection works.

  • IPhone to Outlook Contacts Sync

Would love to be able to have my iPhone Contacts sync to Outlook contacts, NOT the other way around. [The first time I tried it, it wiped out my iPhone contacts and put the old Outlook ones back in.]
Now, I see some improvement in the updated versions of iTunes, but I simply have no idea what the WARNING Screen is trying to tell me -- something about more than 5% of the contacts will be changed, etc, etc...CHANGED WHERE? My iPhone or my Outlook?
It would be so much easier if we had a choice to sync Outlook to iPhone or iPhone to Outlook without wiping either database. Is that too difficult to do?
    Anyone have a solution? Thanks!

The sync process for contacts with the supported application on your computer is a bi-directional or true sync process.
If the supported application on your computer has contact info and your iPhone doesn't, the contact info with the supported application on your computer will be transferred to your iPhone with the first sync and be kept synchronized afterwards with following syncs.
If the supported application on your computer does not include any contact info and your iPhone does, your iPhone will be erased of all contacts with the first sync.
If the supported application on your computer includes contact info and you have manually added contacts to your iPhone, you should be provided a merge prompt with the first sync, which should be selected. After the initial sync and merge, contacts will be kept synchronized with following syncs.
iTunes includes an option to replace contacts on your iPhone with the contacts in the supported application on your computer. After doing this, contacts will be kept synchronized with following syncs. There is no option to replace contacts in the supported application on your computer with your iPhone contacts.

  • One way Outlook Contacts sync

Can Outlook contacts be synced to the iPhone only (one way)? I do not want iPhone contacts uploaded to the iPhone.

Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues syncing iCloud contacts with Outlook. The following resource may provide a solution:

  • Outlook contact sync changes email properties!!! How to stop that?

    Hi,
when you modify or add a new contact on the iPhone, once you synch it with Outlook (2007 in my case), all iPhone contact emails properties are changed in outlook.
I have set Outlook to default to send email in HTML, not in RTF:
    Tools->Options->Mail Format->Internet Format-> Convert to HTML Format
This means it won't send RTF mails at all, first converting them to HTML messages.
Outlook "offers" a way to override this setting directly in the contact form.
If you open a contact in Outlook "Contacts" view, then double-click its email address. You get a dialog box called "E-mail Properties".
By default, it will use "Let Outlook decide the best sending format" as the "internet format" mode. This comes from the default we have set above.
Problem is that each contact modified in the iPhone resets this "Internet format" for that particular contact to "Send using Outlook Rich Text Format".
This is ways stupid since when you send a formatted email to someone who doesn't have Outlook, then (s)he gets a plain text email and an attached "winmail.dat" file that is binary and containing the formatting and attachments, built-in pictures, etc...
This file is recognized only by Outlook and can't be read if you don't have outlook or a utility to decode those files.
Can Apple fix this and keep the "Internet format" settings as it is in Outlook?
And if you create a new contact on the iPhone, then, when synching, use Outlook's default Internet format?
Is there a workaround to this annoying problem?
I know that Outlook is tricky, not the iPhone or iTunes, but we have to live with it.
    Thanks for any help
    Steve

  • Outlook contacts sync puts some 1st AND last names in iPhone 1st name

After I initially synched all my Outlook contacts onto my new iPhone, some of the names show up on the iPhone as "lastname firstname" (which is what I want), but some show up as "firstname lastname". The problem with this is that they don't sort correctly. I've looked into the Outlook contact, and, in both cases, they have the correct firstname and lastname fields. In the iPhone contact, the entire name (firstname lastname) is in the iPhone firstname field and the lastname field is blank. I can find no other difference between the correctly synched contact and the incorrectly synched contact.
    Any suggestions??

The sync messed up somehow. Sync does that sometimes.
If you plug in the phone, but don't sync it yet, I believe there is an option somewhere (labeled Advanced) to overwrite the information on the phone with information from your computer. You might try that, for contacts. Explore all the iPhone panels in iTunes.
Alternatively, delete all your contacts on the phone and re-sync.
Caveat: I'm no sync expert and don't use windows.

  • Outlook contact sync

The last time I synced with Outlook, a lot of the same contacts came up multiple times -- around 50+ times each. Seems the only way to delete them is individually. I would like to know the following: 1) is there a way to do multiple deletes and 2) what made this happen. Many thanks for help.

There isn't really a way on your BB to delete them individually.  There are apps that you can download (like Advance OS & LED) where you can export your contacts to an excel spreadsheet, then you can delete the duplicates there, clear out all the contacts on your BB and Outlook, go into Outlook and re-load your contacts file, and if you have sync turned on, then your contacts should pop into your BB.
...and, unfortunately, I'm not really able to shed light on #2 -- only thing I can think of is maybe you turned contact syncing off, then back on again, and then you got duplicates...sorry, good luck!

  • IPhone/Outlook Contacts sync acting strangely

Hi everyone. I have something weird happening in Outlook that wasn't happening before getting a new iPhone (my first iPhone ever). I had my Outlook Contacts setup so that when I create a new contact (in Outlook) and I enter the contacts name the "file as" field shows lastname, firstname. This worked fine until I began using my iPhone. Now when I create a new contact in Outlook the "file as" field shows firstname, lastname instead of lastname, firstname even though it is setup correctly in Outlook properties. Has anyone seen this before?

SOLVED - I went into his Contacts Options (Tools | Options | Contact Options) and simply changed the Default Full Name Order from Last Frist to First (Middle) Last and that did the trick!

  • Solution for Outlook for mac no longer syncing to iCloud?

I have a new iPhone 5s and am running Mavericks on my MacBook. I use Outlook for mac for my mail and contacts.
The new version of iTunes (since around mid October 2013) no longer syncs contacts and calendars from Outlook - and from searching forums online it seems that Outlook no longer syncs with iCloud.
When I log into www.iCloud.com this seems to be true as my iPhone calendar is consistent with the calendar I see on iCloud.com, so icloud seems fine.
The problem is that calendar appointments and contacts from Outlook on my mac do not sync through to iCloud - and I cannot work out how to acheive this - very frustrating.
Can anyone help or offer a suggestion?
    Thank you!

Thanks Csound - I don't know the technical details - but until October all contacts and calendars were syncing from Outlook for mac through onto my iPhone and iPads - each time that I synced connected with iTunes.
The newer version of iTunes now no longer syncs these - so I'm stuck using Outlook on mac and an iPhone - but neither will talk to each other - the contacts and calendars don't swap.
Surely I'm not the only person with this problem - has anyone else found a workaround?
If you're using Outlook for mac how are you syncing info to icloud and back?
Whether through google or sending using iCloud mail, or whatever it might be.
    Thank you
