I-frame configuration in QT Streaming Server

Hi,
I have setup a hardware video capture card to capture the live video, and then relay the video output by using QuickTime streaming server in order to increase the available access capacity. However, I found that the QTSS cannot send the live video stream as a whole image when playback by QT player. Only part of the video image can be seen on the screen at startup, and the rest of screen area is seriously distorted. It takes around few seconds, depends on the i-frame rate, to completely restore the distorted area and properly playback the video. I suspected it is because QTSS doesn't send the i-frame as the first video frame when video playback begins.
Is there any setting on the QuickTime server to always send i-frames (key frames) first for a live stream, such that improve the output video quality? Thanks.

Darwin Streaming Server & Quicktime Broadcaster Problems

recently upgraded to Darwin Streaming Server 5.5, and am having difficulty with it. I keep getting the following error when I try to change the settings under the Broadcaster sidebar menu item.
Error - Perl execution failed
Can't call method "state" on an undefined value at /Library/QuickTimeStreaming/AdminHtml/parse_xml.cgi line 1365.
The line that this error references is:
if (($broadcasterConn->state = 0) && ($theAction eq 'SaveBroadcasterSettings')) {
Additionally, If I select "Broadcast" in QuickTimeBroadcaster, I am presented with this error:
Connection Failed (-5420)
I have not experienced these errors with the previous version, which I uninstalled. When I reinstalled DSS I received a "Successfully Install" Message.
And...for what its worth, this is the version of perl I am using:

We use 10.3.9 server here on three different machines. Two of the three disconnect from Broadcaster after about half an hour, with the -3285. The third system will not even allow a connection to start, ever. I am thinking that the automatic unicast file has a permissions issue. All of the three servers have Open Directory enabled. I want to turn it off, but I am not sure what will happen to the rest of the server's abilities if I do. Does anyone run in an Open Directory disabled configuration?

Quicktime Broadcaster 1.5 and Darwin Streaming Server 5.5

Since i upgraded to Quicktime Broadcaster 1.5 (as i want to use H264) i can't use any more the Automatic Unicast (Announce). It says 'Broadcast error disconnected (-3285). I updated to Darwin Streaming Server 5.5 (on SuSE 9.1 Linux on a hired server with 2 IP's, one binded to DSS, the other to Apache to enable Streamin over port 80) but it doesn't help. I tried with Wirecast instead and everything workes fine (at least it created the .sdp file correctly) so i don't think the problem is in the Streaming Server Set up. Anyone has experienced something similar with the new Broadcaster?

Stream from broadcaster to streaming server

Hi,
Is it possible to connect with broadcaster to the streaming server for relaying?
I can only figure out how to configure the streaming server to connect to the broadcaster – but I have the broadcaster within a clients network with private ip.

I seem to be having the same problem. I want to show "the others" from the dark side that Live Meeting just doesn't get it. I'm in a company who has decided to use Live Meeting and we have many people in Canada who are about to puke! Our Canadians use Macs a lot and with Live Meeting we can "view" the webcast but can't HEAR the webcast. We Mac users have to phone into a conference call to be able to "hear" the audio of the dark side's webcast.
Now, I have QT 7.1.3 QuickTime Broadcaster 1.5.1. I have a Canon GL2, iSight, great mikes, a DSL broadband connection w/router, I'm using a PowerBook G4 with 512K RAM.
I've tried to use "Broadcaster" and sent the file to another iMac and we were not able to send the broadcast from my computer to the remote compter. I've also tried this with a WinTel computer on the same network without any luck.
Is this possible with QT or do I have to have a dedicated server to do this?

Quicktime Streaming Server - qtss - service does not start in Server Admin.

We're currently trying to configure a video/audio streaming server, but we've fallen at the first hurdle and the QuickTime Streaming service will not start (I am trying to enable it via Server Admin). Can anyone think of any possible reasons for this?

It's probably not hugely relevant but are you trying to start it remotely or locally on the server? I know Server Admin can get a bit laggy and not always do what it should when starting services. Also can you check in the logs for the service (Quicktime Streaming>Logs>Error Log) to see if there's anything in there which gives and indication. Paste the output here if you need anymore help with that.

We need to configure SSL for Portal Server. We are using J2EE 6.20 Patch 25 and EP6SP2P4. The ITS is already using https and it creats lots of Session issues since Portal is not in https.
Is there any OSS Note or How to guide to configure Portal to use SSL.

Thanx for your Post, I have a Question, we will use CISCO for load balancing and SSL termination but I have a big issue, the URL in the portal applciation is always the same ant the URL in the borwser, I guess al the other URL´s are in the Frames, how will we configure the SSL termination for the login page in example if the URL in the Browser appears always the same?

Streaming server 3.5.1 no script works except main.far (VOD)

we own multiple FMS servers, interactive and now we installed
a few Streaming servers.
during the install process we provide the license key
for the Stream server's we got from the adobe representatives
in our country, and all seems well until we try to move an already used VOD
script to the /opt/adobe/fms/applications/vod/ folder
the script is named main.asc and replaces the main.far
which comes with the out of the box VOD application.
this script works on all Interactive servers but fails
to work on the Stream servers.
it simply fails silenty, no logs and no errors are written anywhere....
so i thought the problem might be some feature i try to invoke
in the code while streaming server does not support it, so i stripped
the main.asc to be practically empty..

The behavior you encounter with FMS Streaming Server edition is expected. The streaming edition only offers streaming capabilities as outlined athttp://www.adobe.com/devnet/logged_in/dmotamedi_fms3.html .
As small gist from there :
Flash Media Streaming Server (FMSS) is a brand new product offering. This low-cost server is limited to live and video-on-demand (VOD) applications only. It cannot be used for multiway applications such as video chat, server-side playlists, or server-side recording. Flash Media Streaming Server does not support the new plug-in architecture or server-side ActionScript API. Edge or Origin configurations are not available in the streaming server either.
So if you are looking for server-side scripting support and other features like C++ plug-in framework etc to build interactive/ collaborative applications you need to choose the Flash Media Interactive Server.

Please help me with Vhost configuration for Adobe Media Server running under linux.
I was running a media sharing website for which I wanted to use Adobe Media Server.
To use, AMS, I disabled the already installed Apache server and installed AMS along with the built in Apache server. I could successfully install AMS and could login to AMS Admin Console through my IP number.
My existing website, www.mydomain.com is having its contents located at:
/home/mydomain/public_html
(Directory created under the old version of Apache not bundled with AMS)
Users will be uploading their videos, which will get transcoded and will be delivered to the website visitors in the existing scenario.
To use this website with AMS, this is what I did:
I created a folder for my domain, www.mydomain.com as below
/opt/adobe/ams/conf/_defaultRoot_/www.mydomain.com
Copied Application.xml and Vhost.xml from /opt/adobe/ams/conf/_defaultRoot_/ and pasted them in /opt/adobe/ams/conf/_defaultRoot_/www.mydomain.com
In the Application.xml file there are 2 entries:
<Alias name="mydomain.com"></Alias>
<AppsDir>${/home/mydomain/public_html}</AppsDir>
Please help me with further steps to be completed:
Do I need to create a separate VirtualHost entry in the Apache installed with AMS?
If yes, can I specify already existing document root for my website (/home/mydomain/public_html) or do I need to create a separate folder under webroot/Apache ?
If yes to point 2 above, then do I need to copy all the existing contents from /home/mydomain/public_html to the newly created folder ?
I hope, I can serve all my static contents like html pages and php and media like video/audio. In that case do I need create alias to my Media/Alias folder or AMS will automatically start streaming when a video/audio is requested ?
What other steps do i need to complete?
Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

Broadcaster, Darwin Streaming Server, IP problem?

I'm pretty sure this is a DNS issue. Hopefully someone has some simple advice out there.
I'm using an MacBookPro, Broadcaster and Darwin Streaming Server.
Attempting to create a .mov file that will deliver a live stream.
1) I created a new QT player and assigned the movie rtsp://192.168.0.105/myteststream
2) Then I saved the movie as whatever.mov
3) I then uploaded whatever.mov to a remote server.
Now if I call on this file from my local network "http://www.mydomain/whatever.mov" (using any comp here - Mac, PC) I can view the streaming movie with no problem.
However, anyone else is unable to view it. They get a broken QT error. (10060)

That is a local IP address, and it will only work for someone within your network. To find the correct IP address, go to this page from any computer on the LAN and note down what it reports.
You may also need to open ports used by RTSP on the firewall if you have one, and configure port forwarding on the router so that those ports are forwarded to the local IP of the computer hosting the stream.

I am searching for some open source and java based media streaming server which can facilitate live video streaming. Can anyone please suggest me some good streaming server.

Some observations:
(1) The use of the Configuration.createRootApplicationModule() API is recommended only for console programs, not web applications, but it should work ok as long as your use of the appliation module is completely stateless (which from the code it looks like it is since you release the AM back to the pool on each request.)
(2) You mention "Stateful" mode, but Configuration.createRootApplicationModule() only supports stateless mode, so you are effectively using Stateless mode.
(3) You are passing true as the 2nd argument to Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule() which means you are asking to immediately remove the application module instance from the pool. This will hurt the scalability of your application since each request will need to be served by creating a brand new instance of the application module.
(4) You are explicitly calling disconnect(). This is not necessary.
I would recommend:
(1) Changing your 2nd argument to releaseRootApplicationModule() to false
(2) Remove the explicit call to disconnect()
(3) Given your usage pattern, I'd recommend calling viewobject.setForwardOnly(true) before calling viewobject.executeQuery() and iterating over the results. This will avoid any caching of the fetched view object results. Also ensure you've read section "27.2 Tuning Your View Objects for Best Performance" of the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers guide on the ADF Learning Center at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html for more performance tips
For example, if you are fetching 65 rows, make sure the fetch size of this view object is at least 66 so you can retried all the rows in one DB roundtrip.

WIndows 7 64-bit system printing to a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server

Is there any way to configure a new Windows 7 64-bit computer to use a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server ?
The printer that I would like to connect to is an HP 4240n LaserJet. I appears that there is only a 64-bit Universal Print Driver available. The server currently uses HP 32-bit PCL5e or PCL6 drivers for all other connected computers. Connection is through a Hewlett-Packard Network Port, using DLC/LLC transport for the embedded 4240n print server.
Installing the HP 64-bit UPD to the WIndows 7 64-bit system, and then attempting to redirect the local port to the Win2k network print server has not worked.

See if this works...
Run msconfig.
In the System Configuration screen, Boot tab, Advanced Options, if there is a check mark in the box next to Maximum memory. Remove that checkmark and save your changes.
Reboot and hopefully Windows recognises all the Ram ( minus the reserved ) after restarting.
Please give that a try, and post back and let us know if that frees up some system memory for you.

JMF does not have RTSP server capabilities built-in. You would have to program the RTSP request-response protocol yourself.

Method 2: By using the Certificate Request Wizard
The following steps describe how to obtain a certificate from a Windows Server 2003 Certification Authority. You can also request a certificate from a Windows 2000
Certification Authority. Additionally, you must have Read permissions and Enroll permissions on the certificate template file to successfully request a certificate. Use this method if one or more of the following conditions are true:
You want to request a certificate from an Enterprise Certification Authority.
You want to request a certificate that is based on a template where the subject name is generated by Windows.
You want to obtain a certificate that does not require administrator approval before the certificate is issued.
To obtain a certificate, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
Click Add, click Certificates, and then click Add.
Click Computer account, and then click Next.
If you want to add a certificate to the local computer, click Local computer. If you want to add a certificate to a remote computer, click Another
computer, and then type the name of that remote computer in the Another computer box.
Click Finish.

I get as far as step 11 and I get the error message:-

The only part of the above instructions which I have not been able to complete is:-
“you must also add the Enterprise Domain Controllers group to the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group”.
When I click on the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS user then click the Members tab & go to add Enterprise Domain Controllers the option is not there.

This might be an issue with the gacutil that you are using. I have used the gacutil that comes with Microsoft SDK.
You can install Microsoft SDK from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3138
