You needed to erase the HDD and reinstall the version of OS X with which the Mac shipped from the factory from the restore DVDs that came with it if that was Snow Leopard and from OS Recovery if that was Lion. If Lion, you also need to call Apple Care and request that the Mac be released from your Apple ID.
By doing this your friend is then free to set the Mac up as a new purchase in his own name with his own Apple ID.
BTW, any software that you bought from the MAS with your Apple ID cannot be given to your friend. That would be software piracy.

It is usual done via the addess you specifiy and/or the payment method. You need a payment method asssoiciated with thec ountry. An iTunes Gift card purchased in th USA will not work in the Chna App store nor will a credit card with USA billing addresss.

I've used a Hitachi multimedia projector with my previous MacBook with Snow Leopard but I can't get it to project data from my new MacBook Pro. Any suggestions?

My new MacBook Pro with 10.8.4 does not seem to work with my Hitachi multimedia projector which works find with my older MacBook running 10.6.8. Is there anything I can do to get the projector to recognize my Mac or is it the other way around? (It would be nice to just carry one machine instead of two. Besides it's not a good advertisement for the new MacBook Pro!

Are you using the same cable and input connector with both systems?

Hard Drive was replaced, but now can't get Apple Backup to restore data

My iMac had a damaged hard drive, so I replaced it and reinstalled Mac OS 10.4, along with iLife 06. My iMac is now up and running again (prior to hard drive replacement it froze and was then unable to get up and running again without repeated attempts at powering down and then up).
Here's my problem. Prior to the replacement, I'd been using Apple's Backup program to backup all my iPhoto and iTunes files to an external harddrive. The files are on the external harddrive, but when I use Backup to restore them, the opened and allegedly restored files have no data in them. (I've been using "restore to alternate location" and putting the restored data in a shared folder on the iMac. Backup runs, and says the data is in this shared folder, but when I go to import data from them, they are empty.)
Fortunately, I did a wholesale copy of my old desktop to my external hard drive in July when it became clear I'd have to replace hard drive, so I was able to get most of my photo and music files restored from that. But from July to October, I used Backup exclusively to save new pictures or music and now I can't find a way to get that data restored (short of trying to pull off the old damaged harddrive).
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Try this,
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

When I go to update my apps on itunes, it says my account has been disabled. I've done everything I know to do to no avail. I've changed passwords, I've done it all about a hundred times, but I can't get to the bottom of it...HELP Please :)

I am about to pull my hair out. My itunes account has been disabled............or at least that's what it says everytime I want to update my apps....I can't do it. Then it sends me to a useless web address www.apples.com/itunes/storesupport/forassistance it never helps me. I've changed my password, etc. But I can't get my apps updated or the "Apple" in the sky to fix it...I don't know where to go for customer service....Any suggestions?

I updated the software on my iphone4 tonight and ran into this same endless loop - "itunes terms & conditions have been changed" - go to itunes, aceept - back to the "T&C have been changed message" with no ability to do anything in the app store until I accepted the new terms.
While not a very direct solution, I was able to finally accept the terms in a way that seem to register with apple by making a purchase through iTunes on my computer. This forced me through updating my payment information and updating my iTunes software to the latest edition (which I had not yet taken the time to do). After doing both of these, iTunes took me through the terms & conditions on two separate pages, but ultimately allowed me to purchase my song. Once I completed these steps, it fixed the problem on my phone, so now I can update my apps and download new ones without running into that loop.

Upgrading from iPhoto 8 to iPhoto 9 requires a purchase. There are two ways to get to iPhoto 9:
1 - purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com.
2 - if your MBP meets the requirements upgrade you system for free to Mavericks. Then you can purchase the latest iPhoto version, 9.5.1, from the App Store.

Further info: I am a complete newbie to Mac. Had three macs prior to 2000 then four PCs. Just come back and struggling a bit with the unfamiliarity. On my old PC laptop I could simply switch from the laptop screen to the large external monitor (and back) with the F4 function key. While I can get the background image from my MBA to display, that's it. Until I noticed on the far left of the external monitor, the very edge of one of the web pages I was on. So Idragged it over to display in the centre. But that's all that's there. And now I have gone out of those web pages but they are still displaying on the monitor. There is some wierd disconnect. I'm sure it is just a setting thing. Will keep searching for answer but any advice welcome!

Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,

They're not lost, they simply don't show because you settings ask it not to.
Go to Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendar --> Calendar --> Sync --> All events

It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.
