I get a message bar saying "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page." How can I find out what page it was trying to redirect to so I know whether I want to "allow" it or not?

I've used Firefox for a long time, but recently this message started appearing every time I open Firefox.

The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

404 is a http status code meaning it could not find the link, presumably the subscription link is down or has moved.

The password is good for 15 minutes to make purchases. You should receive a receipt in 24 to 48 hours for the purchases. There is a link to Report an issue. You could use that to start a conversation with iTunes Support about a refund.

You can not access the backup directly.
Did you restore your replacement from this backup?
If so then you already have everything in the backup on your device.
If not, you can wipe the device and restore from this backup:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings

If you have Firewire 800 it's a boxy looking port, the Firewire 400 is thinner and has a arrow looking shape, you can get a adpater.
FW800 is simply FW 400 x 2, so the adapter gives you FW 400.

But since Firefox didn't have any sound/notification settings on its own, I thought to check the extensions, and voila!

How can I find out what causes a program to NOT RESPONDING status suddenly?

After a very long period of functioning without serious problems a program suddenly doesn't start anymore, showing this funny rotating ball and a message in the Activity Monitor that this program is not responding. I have searched the log files meticulously, hoping to find some clues what caused the stuck, but no chance of course. Is there a more or less "educated way" to find out, what happened and how to prevent it in the future?

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):

I can check if a Firefox plugin is installed by querying navigator.plugins object, but I can't figure out how to do this for extensions.

You can't check for extensions that are installed. 
Plugins can be detected via navigator.plugins as you posted, but you can't detect extensions for privacy and security reasons.

What does it mean when I get a message which says: To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier?

This error message comes up when I am trying to get a log in box to come up on a particular secure website. Sometimes the log in box does come up, but when I go to log in nothing happens.

You get an alert about resending POST data if you go back to a page or refresh a page that was previously requested from the server by submitting form data via a (hidden) POST form. 
Firefox can only make sure to get the same page by resending that POST form. 
Firefox doesn't know what that form data means, so Firefox asks for confirmation before resending that form data as such an action can cause you to repeat an action and buy another item or post a message another time. 
A way to prevent that pop-up is not to use the Back button, but to open links from a page that was requested from a server by sending a POST form in a new tab (window) with a middle-click or a Ctrl + left-click. 
Then you can close that tab or window to go back.
