Why do I get the message "iPhone Not Available" when trying to make calls from my Mac even when both devices are clearly on the same Wi-Fi network?

I am using a mid-2010 Mac Book and the iPhone 6. I can't imagine that it is due to the age of my Mac because if it was disqualified, then we would not get the option to use it to take calls.

Have you tried contacting iTunes Support and asking them ? We are fellow users here on these forums, it could be due to a number of reasons, we won't know which one.

Thanks Don-yes i'm using the correct apple id and yes I've plugged the phone into the computer-that's the problem, my computer doesn't recognise my phone anymore altho it comes up in iTunes library it won't sync anymore
