I get a size/scale mismatch between Illustrator and Photoshop.

I'm sure there's a simple solution for this, but I've forgotten it: If I draw an Illustrator shape over a Photoshop file used as a template, now, when I copy and paste the AI shape into the PS file the scale is wrong. It's too big sometimes and too small other times. Either way, I have to do a lot of jiggery-pokery to match up the new AI layer to the existing Photoshop image. What setting have I missed, or what am I doing wrong?

Three magic letters: DPI.

    Absolutely. Just change the sim card and the APN details in the settings. You can do this either manually if you know them or just sync with iTunes after changing the sim and the details will sync. Once you have done it once for each network the device seems to remember the details.

  • RGB Color management between Illustrator and Photoshop

    Hi,
    I have a color management issue when exporting JPGs from Illustrator and opening them in Photoshop:
    In Illustrator (file is in RGB mode), I have a logo which has the color RGB 0/0/153 and I export a JPG. When I open the file in Photoshop, the color is RGB 1/0154.
    I have activated Adobe CC Color Manegement via Adobe Bridge (option "Europe, Universal 3"), which should produce consistent results in all Adobe applications.
    So which is the color that is actually in the file? And what do I have to do to get the color I want (0/0/153) actually exported from Illustrator? I need this color to comply with corporate design specifications of my client.
    Since I have to produce a lot of files it is not possible to readjust all colors in Photoshop ...
    Thank you!
    Michael

    First, check to make sure that the RGB working colorspace is the same for both Illustrator and Photoshop.
    When exporting the jpeg from Illustrator make sure the 'embed' color profile is selected, and it is the color profile that is required for your client. If this is for web use, then sRGB is your best choice.
    When you open the exported image in Photoshop, make sure that the color settings for Photoshop are set to 'Preserve Embedded Profiles'. After you open the image in Photoshop, you can double check by going to Edit > Convert to Profile... The source profile should match the embedded exported profile from Illustrator. If these match, your RGB color values from Illustrator and Photoshop should also match.
    If the source profile does not match, cancel out of the 'Convert to Profile" and go to 'Assign Profile". Assign the profile that you embedded when exporting from Illustrator. Now Photoshop should have the same values as Illustrator.

  • Working Between Illustrator and Photoshop

    Hi guys,
    I guess you could call me a novice when it comes to working between products, but I am using both photoshop and illustrator.  Photoshop, I'm obviously using for image editing and touch ups, illustrator I am using to create graphics.  I am wondering if there is an easier way to work between the two (that is having a file simultaneously updated through both programs. (when you edit the file one program, the edit appears on the other).  It just a pain to work between the two, because I can't always anticipate what my work will look like on one program when I am designing on another.  Plus, the quality of my images seem to decrease as I import images into illustrator.
    Thanks for your help!
    Dan

    You get what you ask for:
    I usually start in Illustrator, creat some vector artwork, add some brushes to it in photoshop....
    PS, for all intents and purposes, is pixel based. The only way to retain vector editability would be to use smart objects, but then again none of this matters when you go back to AI as it has its own share of issues dealing with PS files. It's really your workflow.. You should try to only do the parts in PS that you realyl must and then export them as a separate document with transparency which then can be imported and integrated in AI...

  • Problems between Illustrator and Photoshop with CS

    Hi all, I wasn't sure where to put this so I put it here.
    I have just upgraded my OS to 10.4.5
    Since then, if I have a document open in Illustrator, and copy an element (such as a picture) on to the clipboard, when I go to Photoshop this alert comes up:
    "Could not import the clipboard because the specified format is not in the edition."
    Any idea why it says this? It's really annoying!!!!!!!!

    this was a known issue. i have CS2 some i'm not exactly sure what if anything has changed but try this:
    open up illustrator.
    in the menu bar click on illustrator>preferences>file handling & clipboard
    where it says "copy as:" make sure both options are checked.

  • Can you link files between illustrator and photoshop and maintain layers?

    Want to be able to open an AI file in photoshop, maintain the layers I have in illustrator and be able to edit the AI file and have those edits automatically appear in photoshop.  I think this is possible.

    Do you mean you want an Illustrator Smart Object’s Layers represented as Photoshop Layers and still be linked to one ai/pdf file?
    If so I have to disagree with your assumption:
    I think this is possible.
    While Photoshop Smart Objects have Layer Comps capabilities in Photoshop CC 2014 Illustrator Layers (and pdf Layers) are quite different from Photoshop Layers.
    What exactly are you trying to achieve?

  • Color Conversion Problems between Illustrator and Photoshop (and Mac and PC)

    Hi guys (and gals) Hope someone can help me here.
    Got an issue working with a web design companywho when opening my eps logo file from Illustrator (I'm running all CS5.5 they're running CS4) into their version of Photoshop the color values are different. I'm not talking about 'not looking the same' but when clicking on the colors they have different numeric values. I'm running Mac OS X ad they're running a Windows based OS.
    My Illustrator file is in RGB mode. It has an Adobe RGB profile attached to it. I've set the web design company's PC version of Photoshop color settings to Adobe RGB and preseve embedded profiles as a setting.
    However the conversion issue still happens. Tried exporting my color palatte as a .ase swatch file and imorting a new swatch set into their Photoshop and still getting the different color values.
    Anyone experienced this issue before? Am I missing changing a color/profile setting on one of the machines/software packages?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

     ... my eps logo ..
    Why are you using EPS? It is kind of outdated format these days.
    EPS  does not support color profiles. The default Save as EPS options in Illustrator include CMYK conversion which changes the values. To avoid this uncheck "Include CMYK Post Script" in the save options. Then when you open the file in Photoshop the RGB  values will be the same and if you want it displayed the same, in Photoshop choose Edit > Assign Profile and choose the same profile - Adobe RGB in your case. The color settings in Photoshop will have no effect and can remain unchanged.
    If you do that using the same computer the colors will be identical in values and appearance. If you do it on different computers the values will be the same and the color appearance will depend on if both computers have been calibrated to display colors accurately.

  • Same colors display differently between Illustrator and Photoshop

    Hi there,
    I would love to know why the same colors display differently between my Photoshop and Illustrator apps (CS3). For example, a logo will display much darker or more vividly in Illustrator than in Photoshop, same file, same colour values. My color settings are synchronized from Adobe Bridge to North American Pre Press 2. I've opened the logo file in RGB color mode, in both apps. It would be so helpful if both apps displayed the colours consistently.
    Any suggestions on how to do this would be wonderful!
    Thanks!
    Bobbie

    Hello Bobbie,
    I am using CS3 too and let me tell you that this Illustrator version is the worst ever. You best bet is to take the "Eye Drop" tool and select the Photoshop element to match the color.
    CS4 also have problems when handle placed items. Sadly I can tell you that CS2 is more reliable than CS3 and CS4.
    Not even if you use Pantone colors will match, Illustrator will change the colors making it impossible to match. "Adobe Quality"

  • 3D Differences between Illustrator and Photoshop

    I created a 3D file in Photoshop and decided to create a vector version instead in Illustrator. When I tried to do the same thing in Illustrator, I got a different outcome. Photoshop has a base plane where Illustrator does not.
    How can I create a similar 3D render in Illustrator?
    Here are the samples so you can see the difference.
    Photoshop 3D render
    Illustrator 3D render (notice the shadow below "YEARS")

    What do you expect from an upward view?
    You need to look at it from the front, only slightly below

  • How to get the size of the cuurrent illustration

    Sorry, I made a mistake before this one. The questios is this: can anybody tell me how can I get the size of the current illustration, (as oposed to the page size) in points. Something like 120 points wide and 87 points High?. What function do I need to call?

    From AI Function reference (included with CS2 SDK):
    AIDocumentSetup setup;
    error = sDocument->GetDocumentSetup(&setup);
    if (error) goto processError;
    writeDocumentSetup( &setup );
    The AIDocumentSetup record returns the following information:
    typedef struct {
    AIReal width, height;

  • [MAC OS X - Illustrator CS5.1] DragDrop between Illustrator and Extension

    Hi,
    What I would like to achieve is to handle Drag and Drop between Illustrator and Creative suite extension (specially from Illustrator to extension, designed for Illustrator).
    I would like to get a reference or a pointer on the selection / objects dropped on my extension, and then do something with the selection / objects dropped in my ex extension. Pretty much like they did in the Symbol swatch.
    So, here it is the code implemented (in my POC extension):
    Scripts:
    // Called when the user moves the drag proxy onto the drop target. private function dragEnterHandler(event:DragEvent):void {             Alert.show("DragEnter");             // Accept the drag only if the user is dragging data            // identified by the 'color' format value.             if (event.dragSource.hasFormat('air:bitmap'))           {           // Get the drop target component from the event object.            var dropTarget:Canvas=Canvas(event.currentTarget);
              // Accept the drop.                       DragManager.acceptDragDrop(dropTarget);         } }
    // Called if the target accepts the dragged object and the user // releases the mouse button while over the Canvas container. private function dragDropHandler(event:DragEvent):void {                  //Only Image available?                   var data:Object = event.dragSource.dataForFormat('air:bitmap');
          //Test: Quick and Dirty!!                 var data2:BitmapData = data as BitmapData;                    var myBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(data2);
          myImage.addChild(myBitmap);                   Alert.show(data.toString()); }
    Interface:
    <mx:HBox>     <mx:Canvas                                    id="myCanvas"                                  dragDrop="dragDropHandler(event)"                      dragEnter="dragEnterHandler(event)"                               width="100"                                   height="100"                                    backgroundColor="#FFFFFF"                    borderStyle="solid"                                           />
        <mx:Image id="myImage" width="100" height="100"/>   </mx:HBox>
    It works. But right now, the only available in the Dragsource object is a bitmap.
    I've used the debugger to check if I could find something else, but I did not.
    I have also tried to use the NativeDragManager. But it is pretty much the same.
    I'm stuck.
    Anyone could help me?
    Does anyone know if it is possible to retrieve something else than a bitmap form the dragsource object?
    So any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Toto.

    Hi RIS HK,
    This crash seems to be related to permission issue,
    Can you please try to run Illustrator with sudo permissions on the terminal
    e.g.
    $ sudo /Applications/Adobe\ Illustrator\ CS6/Adobe\ Illustrator.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ Illustrator

  • PDF sizes in Illustrator and Photoshop?

    Can someone explain to me about saving as pdfs in Illustrator and Photoshop?
    For a long time, this is what I end up doing.
    1) save my Illustrator AI file  (example 18Mb)
    2) save it to pdf to send via email. File always ends up being as big as the AI file.
    3) open the pdf in Photoshop, flatten image, then save it from PS to pdf again.
    Then, the file is a manageable size to go out. (around 3Mb)
    What step am I missing to avoid PS and get a small pdf from Illustrator?
    Thanks.

    Mathias,
    It is true that Save a copy is safer, but it changes the name to include copy, at least in 10.
    imacken,
    When you have Acrobat, it should be possible to use its printer (driver). I believe it is called Adobe PDF or PDF Printer in newer versions, and it should have settings to meet different demands.
    By the way, I was thinking of the second of the two Johns that have replies to the Forum Comments forum thread, John Cornicello who often posts under the Adobe Admin name; the first John is very helpful and vigilant, too. I had never seen the thread he referred to until I saw his link because it was hidden in another forum.

  • Color mismatch between CS4 and Canon PIXMA PRO6500

    Hi there! I am trying to research if anyone else is having a problem with color mismatch between CS4 and their printer. Last night I printed a .tiff image out of CS4 to my Canon PRO6500 printer and the sky came out purple / pink! It was supposed to be a stormy grey color. I have the color management turned off on the printer settings. I have CS4 manages color turned on and the correct ICC profile selected for the paper I am using. When I do a soft proof in CS4 the image looks fine, but when I print I get something completely different, mostly with the sky (purple / pink) color! Just for the heck of it I did a Print Preview under my Page Setup and guess what, the sky actually shows purple / pink! So I have no idea what's going on. I checked all my setting, ink cartridges, tried different paper with the appropriate ICC profile and no dice. Still have a goofy looking sky! I thought PROOFING the image is supposed to show you how the printed image is going to look? apparently it doesn't because it's not. The Print Preview has an accurate representation of the print but I have no idea where the pink / purple sky is coming from. They are supposed to be stormy clouds as I said. I appreciate any help anyone can provide .
    Sabciu

    I have the color management turned off on the printer settings.
    But do you have a measured color profile based on a sample print? Most likely not, so this is not doing anything in your favor. The current profile may present the defaults for a given printer, but not the actual density based on your other printer settings. So by all means, unless you can be sure to obey a full calibration throughout, turn on the printer CM. Also, since it is a Pro model, you may actualyl have to use the dedicated RIP software that was bundled with it to get correct results, not the default windows print engine.

  • Config mismatch between VSM and VPath - CSCum76142 bug

    Hi all,
    I got the error message "Config mismatch between VSM and VPath" on my Nexus VSM but I could not see any detail regarding this bug ID due to permission issue. Has anyone else got access to see this bug detail and able to share? I need to know if this bug is critical or just cosmetic. Thanks
    regards,
    Robin

    Hi Robin,
    This DDTS was Junked. But here's the workaround that is mentioned:
    1. Deleting the vservice config (no vservice) & reconfiguring vservice, will get rid of this mismatch issue.
    2. Toggling the port-profile should also work.
    I see couple of other DDTS as well related to this and i would suggest to ask this question in "Other  Data Center Subjects" forum for detailed and quick answer.

  • Contrast mismatch between Organizer and Editor

    I can edit an image in Editor to where it looks great, to include the contrast, brightness, shadows, etc.  When I send it back to the Organizer, it look much too contrasty and dark.  When I use the same images in a slideshow originating in Organizer, they still look too contrasty.  Is there a way to correct this?  I'm using PSE 10 on a Windows 7 -64 bit machine. Thanks for any ideas.

    Thanks for your quick response.  I just checked out the settings in both the Editor and Organizer and they're both set on "let me decide".  I'm not sure what to do on that one.  I could go with optimizing the computer screen with sRGB, or the Adobe RGB for the printer, or no management, or decide on the fly.  If I go with the computer, I guess I'd have to change it when I print a photo out, and vice versa.  Have any suggestions for me? Thanks again.
    New update.  I have a Dell color laser printer, and I just checked the manual.  It offers both sRGB and AdobeRGB.  My priority is really to have a good printout.   If I check sRGB I should be safe for either print or computer, but I'm wondering if I'd get as good a printout with sRGB as with AdobeRGB.  The easiest might be to see what the printer is curently set on, and then set PSE Organizer and Editor to match it.  I'll do that, and then see if that helps the mismatch between Organizer and Editor.
