Not receiving all SMS txt messages from other carriers

I've noticed that i'm not receiving some txt messages from what appears to be Verizon customers.... it happens during pockets of time. I have not been able to track the exact timeframes. is anyone else having sporadic issues receiving SMS from other carriers? i know of atleast 3 friends that have replied to messages from me that i never received the response.

I'm curious. Did you port your number from Verizon when you activated the iphone? I was having the same problem with not being able to receive text messages from my Verizon friends. It turns out Verizon didn't completely disable my number on their end even though the phone number was ported. It took someone from technical support at AT&T to call Verizon while was on the phone and explain the problem to Verizon. Verizon then disconnected my number on its end and it wasn't until then that I started receiving text messages from Verizon users.

I changed from an Iphone to a Android. Now I can't recieve emails from other Iphones.

Email should not be a problem, text messages can be but not email if it is set up correctly on your new phone.

I cannot send email - error message as follows : 'The sender address (my email address) was rejected by the server smtp.tiscali.co.uk.' I can send email from other apple devices, and the email settings are identical. Any ideas?

Not getting all of my email

Somehow, I'm not getting all of my email (via iCloud). My wife forwared an email to me, I got the "ding" but no email. She sent it to another IMAP account that I have and I got it just fine. She repeatedly tried to send it to my .mac account and nothing is received. Sometimes during the day, I hear the email "ding" but no mail is received. The biggest problem is subscribing to various developer forums that require replying to an email to finish the subscription. I'm hung up in never-never land. I get a lot of mail from a lot of sources with no problems - just not sure if it's 100%. Running Mac Mini 2011 with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, iCloud with .mac/.me/.icloud email account. I don't know if this is an iCloud or mail.app problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

Update: I guess it isn't mail.app because I don't get these emails on my iPhone 4S either.

Hey, Toad, thanks for the links. Yeah, I saw the Macworld article but I didn't think these email had anything of a nature that would trigger iCloud's spam filter. But, the Macintouch article I had not seen and it tells me a lot.
I guess I'll have to plot some strategy on how to handle this stuff.
What is crazy, though, is that I get the *ding* but no mail. I tried using the Activity window, had my wife send the the email, but the Activity window contents just fly by and the window clears. If the Activity window had a Clear button for the user to use, it might be more helpful. Duh!
Anyway, thank you very much for responding. I'll re-register with my development forums using a different name and email address.
(I might ask my wife to send her email to her iCloud account and see if it makes it.)

My iPhone 5 suddenly started re-downloading all previously deleted emails from my POP accounts

Yesterday, my iPhone 5 started re-downloading all previously deleted emails from my POP email accounts. I use the native Mail app and have three POP emails set up on my phone. The number of messages downloaded across all of them is over 1,000 so far and date back over several months. One of these is a Yahoo account, the others are work email accounts provided by two different hosting companies. I have not changed anything on any of these three accounts at the server/hosting level. I also run an IMAP account on my phone, which has not been affected, so this is obviously a POP-only issue. I started to delete the messages only to discover that older messages were downloaded in their place. There appears to be a cap of 250 messages downloaded at a time, but there's no way to change this in the phone's settings (this used to be a feature, but disappeared some time ago).
I'm on iOS8.3 (upgraded a month ago with no affect on email). I have not changed any of my phone's email settings, so I don't understand why this has happened out of the blue. I have checked the phone's email settings and there doesn't seem to be a way to limit the number of messages downloaded.
Does anyone know:
a. why this has happened, and
b. how I get it to stop?

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

How do I get rid of deleted emails from my work email account set up on my Air. Keep getting error message "An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox "Trash - On My Mac" They go away from deleted account folder when I hit "trash button" but then they come back later.

Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox. Try to delete the messages again.

Intermittent missing emails from others

I have never had any trouble sending and receiving emails from within mail program itself and don't now, but lately I do from other email programs to myself (using firefox to log in to my verizon.net accounts). Messages show up in my verizon.net sent folders but I don't receive them in my mail program or if I do it's hours later (this NEVER happened before).
ALSO WORSE, only recently I learned that I have not always been getting emails from others as well.
I know this because they were eventually forwared to me by the people who sent them and it shows my correct email address and that they were sent but I did not get them.
Just today I got an email sent from someone to my verizon.net account with a copy to my mail account (correctly addressed) but have not yet received it in my mail program.
SO this morning I sent myself a test email from this verizon.net account to my mail account and still have not received it either. It always has sent such emails very quickly with almost no delaly.
Verizon tech assures me it is not their server since I can send and receive to myself within verizon.net and they show up in my sent folder.
It is an intermittent problem and leaves me with no way of knowing what emails I am NOT getting.
After reading some discussions about mail problems with iphones, I have a sneaky suspicion that it has something to do with iphone and perhaps with recent updates with Quicktime, etc. I have never had problems like this.
I am fearful of updating to leopard because there seems to be problems with mail there. So I still have Tiger and have ever since it came out.
This problem is on my macbookpro laptop and G5 and I have repaired permissions and updated all software.

Which spam filters did you check? Some ISPs reject spam (long) before it gets to your mail client and thus to your spam filters. Verizon is one such ISP, based on published reports and based on their own web site.
At least one major ISP was recently reportedly as rejecting mail, allegedly based on the politics of the various folks involved.
And as for Verizon, there are and have been filtering-related discussions that can be easily located using your preferred web search engine.
Have you tried the configuration with something other than Entourage? This to determine if it is the client or the server.
Have you tried another ISP, or loading up Mac OS X Server and running your own mail server and (if permissible) bypassing Verizon's filters?
And FWIW (and no offense intended), the Mac OS X Server platform's Mail Services forum probably isn't the best spot for what appear to be ISP mail issues and Microsoft Entourage mail client discussions. (Unless the mail server involved running Mac OS X Server, that is.) Various ISPs can and do filter mail. Some (like one of my ISPs) provide you with some degree of control over the filtering. Some don't. Check directly with the ISP for details and settings.

You should be able to:
Disable automatic syncing of devices (Edit > Preferences > Devices)
Backup the device to the new installation (Right-click device > Back Up)
Transfer your purchases into your authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in the apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

I am getting all of my emails again even after I delete them

I delete all of my emails and then empty my trash but the next time I check my email, I get all of my messages from the last two weeks....even those that have been completely deleted.

This happens sometimes when you connect to your ISP, and it regurgitates previous email messages. If it happens once, there's no reason for concern. If it happens frequently...that's another thing.

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

Did you choose the wrong back up? There should be a drop box when you go to "Restore from Back up" in iTunes and your iPhone is plugged in, on the Summary page. Choose the correct back up. If you can't find one, and you still have your device, back up your iPhone 4 again and then choose that back up. Or check for an old iCloud back up if you have one.

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, try this a few times if necessary. If still problem, you may have to just Restore your iPhone to get it working. In the future sync your iPhone with iTunes routinely and when it contains important data, iCloud when set correctly will do this for you continuously.

Please read before going through with this procedure.
If you really want your contact back and you did not do another iCloud backap since you deleted some of your contacts, you can do a hard reboot on both devices with iClouded contacts by holding down the home and lock buttons on each of them for 10 seconds ignoring the slide to turn off thing. Make sure you have iCloud contact services off before doing so. You can then go through the whole set up process until you get up to the backup part. You then press to restore from an iCloud backup (make sure you choose the right backup for the right phone). If you didn't make an iCloud backup before the contact incident, you will have to use your two-month-old iTunes backups. Each phone should have their contacts the way they were from your last backup. You then go into Settings>iCloud>and turn off contacts. You then can choose if you want to keep your current contacts or not. Turn this off on both phones just incase you add another iCloud device to the mix later on. Now your contact lists are no longer linked (Caution: side effect may include lack of edit button). You may now add and delete contacts as you please without it happening on your other phone.
