i get an empty 'downloads' box when i click on 'download' to get incoming email attachments -- and people to whom i send email attachments get blanks with some sort of template message when they try to download them.

Go to Options in Firefox...click on options...click on the privacy tab...Check the box that says "Remember downloads history" ....and that should fix it.

I take it that this is on an Ipad. I had just about the same problem, you could reset your password, but then again, you must apply the new password in the ITune's Store. Tap settings, "about" to check your firmware. Also to set the new password for the Store, tap Settings, Store, then tap Apple ID: a small pop up will show, here tap View Apple ID and input your new password.

That indicates that you have apps that need updating that were purchased with the account that comes up. When you have apps that need updating that were purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until all the remaining apps were purchased by one account.
You have to log into the account that purchased an app in order to update it.

Yes, excuse me. attach a file. I have separate folders on my desktop to organize my word documents, so I'm guessing this might be a part of the problem. When I go to attach one of these documents into gmail, the resulting attachment is another folder icon (not the original organizational folders) with 4 subfolders containing a slew of .xml files reading things like "header.xml" "format.xml" "settings.xml" "style.xml" "contenttype.xml" There are also a few .jpegs and a small folder reading "word" as one of the subfolders.

Try logging out of your account on the iPhone by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if it then works.
If that doesn't solve it then what has worked for some people is going into Settings > General > Date & Time and change the date to a few months (or maybe a year or two) in the future and then re-trying

You have the accessibility VoiceOver feature turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see:

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.

The above has been happening for a couple of days now, I ran a 'Clam AV' scan to check for malware. It showed 4 Viruses attached to emails and as far as I could tell none had been active.
Anyone got any ideas?

When you go to the ePrintCenter and look at your ePrint queue, does it list the bounced jobs? If so, what does it say about their status?
It sounds like you have added your email to your list of allowed senders....review that setting again to make sure you have your email address typed accurately. I had added my own email address incorrectly at one point and had a similar issue. Try adding another email address to your allowed sender list and send a print job from that email to see if the issue may be particular to that one email address.
