I get no ack from dhcp server when using a fresh install of archlinux

Here is the dhcpcd -d eth1 log output

but when I connect the same port, eth1, to a router, and the router to the "internet connection", the router gets an ip and dhcpcd -d eth1 gets a 192.168 address and is all fine.
Weird isnt it?
What could this be?

Hi,
sadly not able to really help you, but It seems that I'm having the same problem.
I'm running an up to date arch install (with testing enabled) and for some strange reason one of the dhcp servers I use does not ever return any packets at all to me.
Openwrt on my home network works like a charm, but here in the office I do not get an ip (or any reply at all sadly) from our dhcp server. I don't know what server we're running though ...
kind regards

  • Linksys X3000 - get internal IP from DHCP server

    Hi,
I have Linksys X3000 router. I would like to use it as a wireless AP. I have disabled the NAT and the DHCP, but is it possible to set the routers ip from an other DHCP server. When I set up the router it always asks for it's own IP address.
The other server is connected on one of the LAN sockets. The WAN socket is not used. Thank you for the reply.
    András

The router (X3000) uses a static IP address. Even if you disable its DHCP server and NAT, you will still have to assign it a Local IP address. The computers/devices that are connected to the X3000 will get their IP addresses from the main router's DHCP server but the X3000 will have to use a static IP address that you will assign to it. If the main router's IP address is 192.168.1.1, give the X3000 and IP address of 192.168.1.x.

  • Unable to get ip address from DHCP server for Aironet 1130AG Access Point

I have a network in which DHCP server is enabled. I have read the installation guide also there it is mentioned that 1130G Access point will not have any staic ip assigned to it.So it will automatically get the ip from the DHCP server from the network. I have connected that from the network but it is unable to get the ip address from the same. The same thing i have configured in the netgear it is coming fine. I have seen the sonic wall and used the IPSU tool also from checking the ip address from Mac Address but i am not able to get the same. Please provide me some tips to check where i am wrong in configuration because the first web page also not coming because of the ip address.

    narendra,
I would suggest that the AP be connected to a laptop or desktop pc that would run a local dhcp server with a small scope setup...plenty of free ones on the web(this pc would obviously not be connected to your currnet network). This way you can watch the dhcp server hand the AP it's address (this can take a few minutes). Once you have the address use it to access the GUI and give the AP a static address (I find it good pratice to give all my autonomous AP's static addresses for ease of troubleshooting)...Hope that helps.

  • No contact with DHCP server when using VPN Client

Pretty weird problem I discovered recently.
We use the VPN Client to connect to a 1841 router. Everything works fine except for one small thing.
The client do not send out _any_ traffic if the destination is the ip-address of the DHCP-server the client got its original ip-address from.
This is verified by Wireshark. A ping on the client do not produce any ESP packets towards the VPN concentrator. No matter what traffic you try actually.
Discovered this when wanting to use Remote Desktop towards the Windows Server that is the local DHCP server and was not able to connect. Then tested ping and still no response. That made me look closer and found out that I could not communicate at all with the DHCP server.
    As I said, pretty weird.
Anyone else have seen this? Anyone have a solution? Right now I use OpenVPN instead when I need to control that server.
    - Roger

    Hi and thanks for responding.
Nothing here apart from being unable to send any packets to the dhcp-server. No problem sending to any other system on the same subnet. The same happens when I connect my pc to another subnet that is served by another dhcp-server. Then I can not connect to _that_ dhcp-server. I can then of course connect to the previous dhcp-server.
I mean _no_ packets are generated out the client at all if the destination are your dhcp-server. No problem with the packet being blocked by a firewall or anything like that. Ping another system on the same subnet as the dhcp-server and the client happily generates ESP packets and sends them to the vpn-concentrator.
I do not know if it was clear enough in the first post so I am saying it here: the vpn-concentrator gives out the ip for the vpn connection. The dhcp-server I can not connect to is the server that gives the client its ip-address _before_ starting up the vpn client.
We use this vpn system so the IT personell will be able to connect to restricted resources from their laptops anywhere in the network, also when using wireless.
This was discovered when one admin wanted to connect from his laptop to a server that also happened to be the dhcp-server that had given his laptop his ip address before he used vpn.
Should be easy enough for anyone else to test. Just ping your dhcp-server after starting the vpn connection. No RFC 1918 addresses of course, there must be a route from your vpn-concentrator to your dhcp-server and at least icmp echo must be open through any firewall/acl.
The vpn version is 4.8.00.0440 on Windows XP configured to not allow local LAN access. I might test this with other versions/OS'es when I have the time.

  • IPad wont get IP address from DHCP Server

I have an enterprise WPA2 PEAP MSCHAPv2 wireless network. It allows access via 802.1x authentication using Radius (MS IAS Server) with certificates. I can join the network, enter credentials (that I can see work) and get the certificate. The problem is that I don't get an IP address. I get a 169. APIPA address. I tried to use a static IP address and that doesn't work either. I have connected various laptops, iPhones even a Dell Streak to this wireless network without issue. My iPad won't get an IP at all. There are plenty of addresses in the pool.
The setup is a 3COM WX3008 wireless LAN controller and 9552 access points.
Any ideas? I went through the articles on wireless settings and none of them help at all. I guess my next step is to wipe the iPad.
Like I said... EVERYTHING else works, every other device we try is surfing just not the iPad.

I see what you are trying to say but in this case its just not true. There is a problem with the iPad. Moving away from the most secure wireless technology or changing my "router" isn't a reasonable solution. We are using a current production model enterprise wireless LAN controller with lightweight access points. Its running its latest code. Its not the Free After Rebate model from the local B&M.
Again, when everything BUT the iPad works (iPod/iPhone/laptops of varying OS & vendor are all good) its not the routers fault. While downgrading my network may work it is not a reasonable solution to a problem with only the iPad.
Of course I don't like hearing it. I am here to hopefully find someone else with the same issue or get some tips that lead to a solution so the next google searcher will land on a solution.

  • I get no sound from my guitar when using iRig with my iPod 5th gen (iOS 7)

I've just bought my iRig and it doesn't work with my iPod 5. I get no sound out of my guitar.
Headphones are working and when iRig is connected I can hear the samples and every other sound coming out of the iPod, but I get nothing from my guitar.
I tried shutting the iPod down, turning Mono on/off, but it still doesn't work with any of my apps (Amplitube, Garage Band and AmpKit).
Then I tried it with my brother's iPod 4 and it worked perfectly, which makes me think that there's something wrong with my iPod settings (I got the iOS 7)....
Does anyone know something I could try?

  • LAN was down ie Users are not getting ip from DHCP server after enabling DHCP snooping

    Hi All ,
Enclosed file has network connectivity diagram.
    1. L3 vlan's ie 2,3,4,5 and 6 are configured on ACC-CR1 and ACC-CR2.
2.Trunk is configured between Core switches ( CR1 and CR2) and access switches .VTP mode is transparent on all switches.L2 vlans are configured on all access switches.
3.DHCP is server is located at different location and is reachable over MPLS.
Without enabling dhcp snooping , users connected to access switches (Sw1,sw2,sw3 and Sw4 ) are getting ip address from DHCP server without any problem and everything is working fine.
But users connected to Sw3 and Sw4 are getting ip address from rouge DHCP server which is not pingable from any one of the switch.
So we have configured DHCP snooping for all vlan's on CR1 , CR2 , SW3 and SW4 and "trusted uplink ports" which are connected to WAN routers from CR1 and CR2  and also "trusted uplink ports " of Sw3 and Sw4 which are connected to CR1 and CR2.
As soon we have enabled DHCP snooping and trusted respective uplink ports , users are not getting ip address from remote DHCP server and even users connected to Sw1 and SW2 are facing same issue.
Note : DHCP snooping is not configured on SW1 and SW2.
Why users are not getting ip address from remote DHCP server as soon as we enabled dhcp snooping on Core switches and two access switches ie sw3 and sw4 ? what could have caused DHCP packets to be dropped ? Any idea would be appreciated .

    Hi,
as you say: " HSRP is configured between CR1 and CR2 and Vlans are active on CR1" does it mean there are L3 intrefaces configured in each VLAN on your CR switches and ip hepler-address pointing to the remote DHCP server is configured on each of them?
I know it's difficult in a productive environment but IMHO you need to find out where are the DHCP offers dropped.
Either by enabling DHCP debugging or by capturing packets via Wireshark, e.g.

  • AP gets always a new IP address from DHCP server

    Hello,
When an access points doesn't find a controller it gets always a new IP address from DHCP server.
    Does anyone know, why?
    thanks

    Hi,
From what I know this is to do with DHCP option 60 and 43.Normally when APs request for IP address, DHCP Server also returns the management IP Address of WLC if the VCI matches.
If the VCI sent by the AP does not match with the one configured under DHCP for that particulart AP type, the DHCP will never return the WLC IP and hence AP can not find the controller. And the AP keeps sending DHCP Req and sometimes end up getting two IP addresses!
So may be you can check VCI on DHCP server for that AP model.
    Let me know.
    Cheers

  • IPV6 clients cannot ping each other while getting IP from DHCP server running in windows 2008

I have two windows 7 clients and a windows 2008 server connected to a switch with static IP 172:16:5::1/64.
DHCP server is configured with static IP 172:16:5::20/64
when i statically assign IP to windows 7 clients like 172:16:5::21 & ::22, they can ping each other. if they get ip from DHCP server, they cannot ping each other.
if i configure the gateway (172:16:5::1) in the clients manually, they can ping each other.
is there any way we can make dhcp server to give gateway to the clients along with IP?

    From what I have gathered:
IPv6 won't route because the DHCP server is setup in 'stateless' mode and the switches do not support IPv6. (
"But if your routers are not IPv6 supported (yet), you can
reconfigure DHCPv6 to Disable Stateless mode, and that'll issue IPv6 addresses that
will eliminate the Ping problem." -
    http://www.networkworld.com/article/2228461/microsoft-subnet/setting-up-dhcpv6-to-dynamically-issue-ipv6-addresses-in-a-network.html)
So you must change to 'disable stateless' mode. Which the only way I can THINK to do this is to uninstall DHCP and reinstall DHCP and select 'disable stateless' during the installation (which I haven't confirmed). (In
case, “Disable DHCPv6 stateless mode for this server” option was selected duringrole installation" -
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/teamdhcp/archive/2009/03/03/dhcpv6-understanding-of-address-configuration-in-automatic-mode-and-installation-of-dhcpv6-server.aspx)
zz.. but my understanding of DHCP is fragmented, please take what I find with a grain of salt. I am off to reinstall DHCP :] .. fun.

  • Unable to get IP address from DHCP

    hi all,
I have a AP1131 which cannot get IP from DHCP server. I have tried to configure static IP address and controller IP by lwapp command and the AP can successfully joined the controller. However, after I changed it to DHCP in WLC, it cannot get IP address and all lwapp config is gone. It cannot join the controller anymore only after I reset it and configure a static IP for it. The following error message appears after I changed it to DHCP in the WLC:

Any expert has some idea on it?
    Thanks.

Is that AP on the same subnet as the other AP's? The thing is, when you configure the AP with static information, you say the AP is able to join the WLC. This means that there is no issue with the AP. Now when you set the AP to use DHCP and not static, the AP does not obtain a DHCP address? Is that correct? If you have more than one AP on the same switch and on the same vlan, and only one has an issue, then maybe reset that AP to default and see if that fixes it. I'm also assuming that the vlan is being forwarded and you have enough dhcp address in the scope.

  • Guest OS not getting IP adderss from DHCP

We have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper V role installed on IBM x3650 M4 server. We have connected 2 LAN. When we create External Virtual Network & binds one physical adapter in Virtual Network manager, We loose the ping response from Local
network for that physical adaptor. Even if we create new VM (Guest OS) & we are not getting any IP from DHCP to that VM. Kindly help to resolve it.

"Please reply fast we have to set up the server as soon as possible."
This is not a support hot-line.  TechNet forums are volunteer driven, meaning that when a person has a few minutes of time, they will look to see if they can help someone.
"We loose the ping response from Local network for that physical adaptor"
That is expected.  In fact, when you select a physical NIC in Hyper-V to make it into a virtual switch, you are presented with a warning stating that might happen.  What happens when a physical NIC is assigned to a virtual switch is that all the
existing networking protocols that were associated with that NIC are removed and the Microsoft Virtual Switch protocol is bound to the NIC.  That is the only protocol than can be on that NIC if you wish to use it as a virtual switch.  If you want
the Host to continue using that NIC you need to select the option to share the connection with the host.
"Even if we create new VM (Guest OS) & we are not getting any IP from DHCP to that VM."
Are you using VLANs?  What is the network environment?  Subnets, etc.

I'm trying to read some XML data from temperature logger over my network.  I'm using LabView version 2009 sp1.  I'm using the URL Get Document Vi.  It works fine when using Internet sites like google or foxnews etc...
When I use it with my temperature logger most of the time I get an Error 66...but some times it does work and actually retrieves the document.
I can use the same address "http://172.22.21.68/XMLfeed.rb" (Internet Explorer or Google Chrome) in my browser and get a response every time.  When accessing from my browser the server in the temperature logger does take around 6 seconds to respond, but it does respond every time.
Is the URL Get Document Vi exceeding a timeout?  If so, where can I set it to wait longer?

It looks like the TCP Buffered Read has a 2.5 sec timeout, I believe that is where I had trouble as well.  Try creating your own URL Get HTTP Doc vi in which you call URL Get Document in normal mode, with an appropriate number of characters to fetch (enough characters so that you capture all the important data in the XML file).

How can I get audio to play from my TV when using hdmi cable?  Video looks great, just no sound.
I've tried plugging the hdmi into the TV directly and the receiver.
I get video every time.  HBO to Go , Xfinity, ABC, Youtube, etc...
    just no audio.  Any suggestions?
I've tried starting the apps then plugging in the hdmi cable.
I never tried this before I upgraded to IOS 5.

    Claudiamil-
I had not tried it with mine since upgrading to iOS 5, so I just did.  I'm using a small Vizio HDTV.  I did not try YouTube, but did try several videos and musical numbers.  In all cases there was sound, including stereo when the source had it.
I assume you are getting sound from the iPad when the adapter is not connected, so the volume is not turned down.  Dah*veed's suggestion to reset may be what you need.

  • How do I obtain a time from a server, when I have no process running on it?

I have a program that is running on many machines.
They all write files to a shared DIR on a server.
I need to obtain a time that is constant, as the only constistant thinh I know they can all see is the server, I'd like them to beable to get the time from the server.
This way I can keep my locks (so only 1 pc can write at any one time) consistant
    How do I do this?
(I have no process on the server)
I'm looking for a call that'll tell me the time on a computer, in millis or somthing else. (I can then use Calendar.setTimeInMillis(long millis) )
But I don't know where to look....

This way I can keep my locks (so only 1 pc canwrite at any one time) consistant
I doubt having something depending on times being
synchronized is the right approach for this. You
should instead actually lock things, such as by using
a Mutex or actually locking files/records/bytes.it is unwise to actually lock a file as if there is an error, the file stays locked,. So you still need a time to work out how long it has been locked incase there has been a problem and it has gone 'stale'.
If 'stale' the locked ness should be able to be overridden.
But it is poor to use client time, as they all may be different.
I'd like to use the time on the NFS, or whatever has the shared DIR. It looks from what you're saying is that I can't find this out in Java.
