I get no reception in my house!

New iphone 5 almost always in a "no reception" state in my house. Very frustrating. Could this be a location to tower problem or an antenna problem?
My location: Shoreline, WA

Two separate cell carriers have poor reception in my not-rural house.
Is this a new carrier, or the first cell phone in that house?

  • I want to get good wifi in my house . I currently have a time warner modem/router separate from my phone modem but my upstairs does not get good reception. What would be the best way to get the best wifi if I started from scratch

I have a combination modem/router from time warner that is separate from my phone line but I get bad reception on my apple tv an ipads upstairs in my house. I would like to fix this and want to know the best way to go about it . Whether getting two modems and routers or just one base station. Please help

It is possible to extend a WiFI network using Apple's Airport Express, Airport Extreme Base Station, or even a Time Capsule. However  the router that is creating the network (the one you have downstairs) must be configurable to permit another WiFi device to extend the network. All Apple WiFi routers can be configured that way, but there are many third party WiFi routers that cannot. The two routers can be connected wirlessly or by ethernet. From your description I suspect ethernet would be prefereable if yoiu had a good way of routing the cable.

  • Can't get any reception

I recently bought a galaxy nexus and am having issues getting reception at my house.  I know I don't live in the strongest coverage area, but the phone gets no signal at all unless I leave it propped up against the window.  If i even move it a couple inches it will instantly lose service.  I had a moto droid 1 before this phone and it worked fine in my house and would usually have 2 or 3 bars of service and data worked for the most part.  My sister and her friend were over here a week ago and both of their iphones worked fine in the house and my mom's old school lg flip phone works perfectly fine in the house.  I don't understand why my nexus gets absolutley no service.  Even when I drive into town (about 7 miles from my house) the service is still sketchy at best, where everybody else with verizon gets full service (verizon is really the only carrier that works consistently where I live).  I also have a 3g mobile hotspot that works perfectly fine in my house.  I called verizon and tried all the tricks (battery, sim card, switching from lte to cdma) and they can't figure it out.  They're going to send me a new sim card and should be here tomorrow.  I have a strong feeling that isn't going to make a difference, but my fingers are crossed.  I really like this phone and want to keep up, but if I can't even use it to make a phone call or send a text message I'm going to have to switch it with another one.  If anyone has any input on what might be wrong with my phone I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.

  • HT1688 Why is it that I don't get good reception in some areas

I don't get good reception in some areas especially around my house.

Because the signal from your carrier is marginal there. Trees, building materials, and other things can interfere with reception.

  • How come I do not get 4g service at my house?

    Hello,
I am just wondering why I do not get 4g service at my house. This has been years long that I have not received 4g coverage at my house and I am able to receive the coverage about 5 miles away (near the mall). My zip code is 11767. What steps do I take to address this issue? I am getting a new phone through Verizon in which I just signed a new 2 year contract and I would like this problem alleviated immediately.
    Sincerely,
    Robert

I only have the issue with reception in my home. I have 4g service out in the parking out of my apartment. I have 4g service when I'm at school half of the time. The reception is awful in my apartment and I only have 4g service in my bedroom and no other rooms at all.

  • I get terrible reception in the basement - is there anything I can do?

Of course the main spot where I spend most of my time in the basement doesnt get any reception. Is there any way I can help boost this?
I have a wifi network available if that makes a difference...

I have a wifi network available if that makes a difference.
Not for connecting to your phone service, if that's what you're asking about.
At this time there's probably little or nothing you can do to improve cell reception in your basement. Radio waves just don't easily penetrate concrete or metal (heating ducts and water pipes, for instance.). If and when AT&T releases their 3G Microcell in your area, then things will probably improve, though it will be up you to decide if it's worth the cost. See:

  • Hello apple community i had just updated my iphone 4 to the newest ios version 7.0.6 and my iphone is getting no reception i don't know what to do please help me !!!!!!

hello apple community i had just updated my iphone 4 to the newest ios version 7.0.6 and my iphone is getting no reception i don't know what to do please help me !!!!!!

    Hi Shohambox,
Please the first thing you should do is to restart your device. Go the sleep wake button and hold down on it for 4-5 seconds waiting for the 'slide to shut off' message to appear. Once the device is turned off go ahead and restart the device. If this does not resolve the issue then go to the area on the front of your device to the app that reads 'settings' from settings>general>reset>reset network settings. Clicking on reset network settings will not erase any data only will reset the network settings apart of your iphone., Once the reset has completed you will then need to go back to settings to wi/fi and plug in the name and password of your wi/fi prior to using it.
    Good luck, Friend.

  • I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

Very few 3rd party wireless extenders will work with an Apple router, so your best bet is always to use an extender that is the same brand as the main router. An AirPort Express is a popular choice for this type of application with another Apple router.
If you had a Cisco router, then a Cisco extender would be your best bet.  Same for Netgear, etc.
But......a wireless extender can only "extend" the quality of wireless signal that it receives, and not much of a wireless signal is going to make it through a brick wall, so whether any extender might do what you want is open to question.
You won't know whether an extender using wireless to connect will work to your satisfaction in your home until you actually try it out in your home.
The performance will always be much better if you can connect the extending device back to the main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection.
If it is not possible to run the Ethernet cable, a pair of Ethernet power line adapters might be able to send the signal over the existing AC power lines in your home. The theory with these devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you just need the adapters.
In practice though, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest, so if you decide to try a pair of adapters, it might be a good idea to understand the store's return policies before you buy.

  • I cannot get decent reception on my 4s from Sprint.  I understand there is a known WiFi issue with the 4s as well as antenna issues.  Is this true and is it resoved in the 5 series?

I cannot get decent reception on my 4s from Sprint.  I understand there is a known WiFi issue with the 4s as well as antenna issues.  Is this true and is it resoved in the 5 series?

I am aware that Sprint has network issues. I have learned that Apple does have reception issues with the 4s.  The 5 series has more antenna area and a different protocol. I have owned at least 6 iPhones personally and over 30 as a company.  The 4s is junk. Apple's attitude toward customer service is much more of a problem than Sprint's network.  Apple sent me your non-answer to my questions instead of anything real. I asked about the iPhone, not about Sprint.

  • DSL service is only 1 mile away, how can I get Verizon to service my house?

I just bought a house.  Unfortunately, before I bought it I talked with Time Warner Cable and they told me service was available.  Once I moved in I called to get it hooked up, they then proceeded to tell me service is NOT available.  And to get it, I'd have to pay $24,000 for them to run cable 1 mile.  They say it is not profitable for them to do it, because in that stretch of one mile, there are only 12 houses, they require 24 houses per mile to justify the expense.
Verizon DSL is also 1 mile away.  I called on 11/2/09 and gave them my address, as well as the closest address to me that has the service.  I was told to call back with this info and ask for an engineering work order to be put in to determine the viability of stretching the service 1 mile. I was supposed to hear back on 11/5/09, but never did.  The support person never gave me any reference number, and I neglected to ask for one.  I guess I will try calling back today, giving all my info to see if there has been an update to my request.
Has anyone ever been successful in getting Verizon to accommodate them and their neighbors in a similar situation?  Feels like a David vs. profit hungry Goliath thing going on here.
Here is a pic of the DSL service extension I'm requesting:

I suggest you visit DSLreports.com and put in a request with the Verizon customer service forum - it is called Verizon Direct - where real Verizon employees work to get things done in a fast and efficient manner.  I have often used this service and have always received top notch service.
    Good luck.

  • Horrible reception in the house and spotty reception outside?!

Our wireless reception is horrible in the house. We cannot hold calls at all. We typically have to dash outside to take/make a call. Even then, the outside reception in the yard tends to be spotty. We have to walk around and watch for bars. We noticed a problem when we moved into the house almost 2 years ago but it seems to be worse now. We have also noticed over the past several months that our phones switch over to 3G when we are on one end of the house. They did not do that in the past so I don't understand what the problem is. It is eating up our data. We do not have a land line and rely on our cells for work purposes. The lack of coverage is a huge frustration that we would like to see resolved. We live in the 23061 area. Please help!

    Hello Sir,
I apologize for not responding to your email in a timely manner.I read it, told myself I'd reply later and then promptly forgot. We noticed when we moved into the home in November of 2011 that the reception was not as strong as it was in our previous house. It was possible to answer and make calls at some places throughout the house while other spots would drop the call almost immediately or communication would fail with the person on the other end hearing what we said but us not being able to hear them. We would hang up and try again at another spot in the house.
For the last year, at least, we have noticed that there are now only a couple places in the house that will hold the call for any time at all now. In those couple of places, it is almost impossible to finish a conversation without the line going dead on our end. We then are forced to step out onto the front porch or the back deck to place/answer a call (which is such a pain in the rain and the cold!). This is still not a perfect solution because certain places in these locations also have poor reception and the call will drop. I go outside, watch for the bars to be favorable, place the call or answer and stand as still as possible in hopes that the call won't drop. As you would probably imagine, this is very irritating for us as this is our work and home contact for the entire family.
Any way you could help us would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Holly

  • How can I get better reception?

I live on a farm on the edge of the Hampton Roads VA area (Norfolk, Newport News, Virginia Beach).  Customer service tells me I'm about 3 miles from the nearest cell tower.  The MiFi reception seems to work well enough, but since I work remotely half the time, I run out of GB's even though I'm on the largest plan right before the end of each billing month.  To avoid the outrageous over charges, I switch to using the hotspot function on my Droid for the last few days of each billing month.
The signal for that device is lousy and have a difficult time even staying connected.  Had to restart the hotspot 5 times to complete the registration here and write this post.
I don't have access to DSL or any cable services (if I did, I'd drop my Verizon Wireless non-voice services completely).
Does anyone know of or can suggest any way to boost signal for better service?  I have called customer service numerous times and they don't seem to either know or want to help.

Hello.  I have two suggestions that might help your situation.
Assuming you work indoors and that it degrading your signal, you could get a "booster" (no, not those cheesy stick-on things from TV).  I live in a "black hole" for cell reception and purchased a Wi-Ex Zboost signal amplifier.  There are different models and also other companies that make them.  Basicall it's an amplifier.  You put a foot-long tube on your roof (or probably in your case, you would need a directional antenna) and run coax into the area where your home office is.    Here is a link that should help.   http://www.wi-ex.com/solutions.aspx  You can get add-on antennas so you don't necessarily have to get the professional model.
The other suggestion, since you indicated a willingness to change providers, is to go with a satellite system.  Probably the most expensive system, but just another suggestion.
    Good luck.  Hope that helps.

  • How to get a Wireless connection from house to car...

Hi I have a new BT Broadband hub in my house, I want to be able to use the wifi from this in a caravan in my garden about 30 metres away so a tablet can be used in there. Does anyone know how I can do this? the walls in the house are 2ft thick so unless I hang the router out of a window in a plastic bag I cannot get a wifi connection in the caravan.
    thanks

  • Can't get email outside of my house

Every time I try to access my email away from my house I keep getting an error message telling me the email password is incorrect. Yet, as soon as I walk into my house it works fine. I have restarted the iPhone 5s a number of times and it still happens. This basically just started doing this and I'm wondering if it had something to do with the update. How can this issue be resolved?

It sounds as if your email provider requires additional authentication if you're trying to access the account from other than their network. You can try deleting the account and adding it back. That my update the settings. If that doesn't work, contact your email provider for assistance in determining the correct settings.
