I get random freezes and have to force shut down

My iMac woked fine before OS X Lion, But now it randomly freezes up and I have to hold down the power button. I have tried just letting the Mac stay freezed, but I still have to force shut down. Please help he resove my problem.

Try some of the fixes in Understanding upgrade nightmares*. I'd be particularly inclined to blame third-party software, but obviously can't be sure that's the correct diagnosis so quickly!

Freezes when asleep and have to force shut down

Hello,
I have currently been having issues with my toshiba satelite. When i close the lid and it goes to sleep it will often freeze so i have to do a force shut down to get it working again. Anyone having similar issues.

I have an iPad2 and have been experiencing problems since the last software update. My iPad randomly freezes and has to be shut down and restarted to move between apps. The screen also suddenly enlarges and can't be reduced in size without shutting down

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same issue of the screen freezing or suddenly enlarging. I'm having to shut down and restart as much as five or six times a day. This has been happening pretty regularly for the past week or more, but seems to be getting worse. Could it be the last software update?

Close all apps in Multi-Task Window.
1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
3. The app will fly off the screen

Has anybody else been having trouble with there iPhone 4s randomly freezing and only unfreezing to shut down because the battery is dead?

I have been using my iPhone 4s a lot mainly for email and to text my friends. I have also noticed that my iphone seems to have recently begun freezing up. It's done this a number of times, and ive only noticed it happen after i updated the software to 5.1 version. Has anybody else been having this problem? I have takin good care of my iphone, and I care to know why my 300 dollar phone is currently being out done by any 20 dollar walgreens phone that I have had in the past.

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

Frozen white or grey bars screen and have to force shut down the iMac

When I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion, my 27in mid2011 i7 3.4GHz iMac started to very frequently show frozen white or grey bars screen and it could not respond to any operation except for force shutdown the computer. This is really disappointing. I upgraded it at the first sec. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Follow the instructions for Starting up in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so te patient.
Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Restart.
If the same problems exist, the startup disk may need repairing.

Pc wont shut down properly i have to force shut down each time.

I have recently started using firefox. Everytime i shut down the pc it will not shut down automaticlly...It says firefox is waiting for a programe to close and for windows live messanger to close..I wait and nothing Happens so in the end everytime i have to force shut down my pressing force shut down button. This also happens on logging off to switch to a diffrent user. This happens everytime i close down.

The following may not completely eliminate having to terminate Firefox through the Windows Control Panel but it will come very close.

Since upgrading to Mavericks I have to force shut down to close frozen applications

Since upgrading to Mavericks I have experienced several times that sometimes when an application close a simple force quit is not enough. The application will disappear from my dock but remain on screen with the spinning ball, and any instances of the application I try to open will also freeze instantly. The only way to clear them is to do a force shut down via the power button on the back of my computer. I have experienced this with Mail, VLC and Finder so I do not think this an issue with a specific program. If anyone is having the same problem or has an idea of how to fix it, it would be much appreciated

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Dock, Expose, Dashboard freeze and macbook won't shut down.

I got a new Macbook about 2 and a half months ago and since then i have this problem with dock, expose and dashboard where they just suddenly don't respond.
This has happened about 10 times so far and i can't think of anything that causes it.
The problem basically consists of the Dock freezing and not responding and the f9, f10, f1q and f12 buttons not responding for Expose and dashboard. I try to shut it down properly but nothing happens and then the whole thing starts to act slowly. I am then forced to force shut down the Macbook.
When I started up again last night after it happened again it was acting really slowly and froze for a few minutes.
Through all of this all I had open was itunes, limewire, msn and firefox.
I tried force quitting finder and it didnt help. Neither has repairing or verifying disk permissions.
If anyone ahs any help it would be a great help!

My Macbook Retina doesn't log back in from sleep after typing in the password, have to force shut down

Recently i've been having this problem once in a while (once every few days) that when I opened up my computer from sleep, I typed in my password and clicked enter. After that, it shows that normal grey box thing; normally it logs in after a few seconds, but sometimes i wait for 2 minutes and still it doesn't log in. I sleep it and wake it again, but this time i type the password and i click enter, but nothing happens, i can't click switch user either. At this point my only choice is to force shut down my macbook. This problem is a bit annoying since sometimes i have unsaved work.

Applications freezing and Macbook won't shut down

I have a 15" MBP, i7 2.66 GHz, 8 GB RAM, and a 500 GB SSD. It has been an awesome machine until about a month ago. It started randomly freezing with different applications running. I would have to force quit the app, then when I tried to shut down or reboot, it would freeze at the gray screen with the spiinning circle. I did some research and thought it might be the SSD, which was somewhat new when this started happening, so I sent it back and got a new one. I did a fresh install of Lion and all my apps and got the same results.
I wiped and reloaded again, same results! Took it to our local certified Mac repair facility and the guy said he ran hard drive diagnostics, found nothing, and was able to surf the web with no trouble. Awesome tech!
I wiped and reloaded again, only this time with Leopard. Same results! I took out the ram and swapped slots.
I am at my wits end and am very frustrated. I didn't spend close to $2k for a machine to surf the web! I need my machine to work so any help would be fantastic!

HT201263 iPad 3: it just shows apple logo and even with force shut down it comes up to same.. Last time it went in recovery mode and itune couldnt resotre.... real s````t product... not happy.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

When I close Firefox, the window closes but the Firefox.exe process and Plug-in Container remain running in the background and have to be shut down using Windows Task Manager.

This happens frequently. Something in Firefox continues to run even when the program is closed. The process has to be stopped before I can open Firefox again.

Thanks. Closing with File/Exit instead of the X closes Firefox properly. AT LAST! A solution!
