I get slow *** tranzfer speeds over da Ethernet. Why dis?

Hello, I have a pc running windows 8.1 and a Mac Pro (2006 edition) that are on the same router (both via ethernet). I have them both connected to each other using their respective "connect to another computer" features, and thus can access each other's hard drives. With that said, when I transfer data from one to the other (say, from the Mac to the PC), it results in slow *** transfer speeds (between 4 and 10 MB/s max). Why? (I have accounted for the usual-suspect variables, such as hard drives, and ethernet cables by using different hard drives and ethernet cables.) it has been at 3 MB/s for about 40 minutes now. Why?

Each computer should be wired to your Gigabit Ethernet capable SWITCH or Router. If you do not have a Gigabit Ethernet capable SWITCH or your Router ports are slower than Gigabit speed, Apple sells a five-port Gigabit Ethernet SWITCH in the Apple online store for about US$55.
Computer-to-Computer File transfers are handled directly by the SWITCH, they do not need to use the Router function.
Gigabit Ethernet requires cables with all 8 wires present, and Power-over-Ethernet is not allowed on those cables.

Im getting slower connection speeds then what i ordered i got the 15mps and i only get 10 ?

It looks like you're right at the edge of the 10Mbps service limit for your copper line, as your margins are low and the line speed is incorrect.
Do you have access to a NID? If so, can you plug your modem into your NID's test jack and pull up the new statistics it shows? The NID can often times be found outside on the side/rear of your home, near your electrical panel/meter or on a pole near the street (uncommon for the last one).

  • Getting slow wifi speeds on wireless router connected to the same LAN

I have a main router/firewall with two wireless routers(linksys E2500 and TP link) connected to it.I want to configure them to all be on the same LAN (192.168.19.0) so i experimented with the TP link first by removing the ethernet cable from the WAN port and inserting it in the LAN port then I disabled DHCP and it worked perfectly. The only downside is that i am getting slower speeds on the TP link compared to the linksys which is still on the 192.168.1.0 network.Ethernet also works fine though i've observed that the TPlink name displays on the ethernet NIC. Can the speed be increased one way or the other or i have to change my setup?

  • Slow transfer speed over VPN connection

    Hello,
Recently I setup an SSL VPN to connect to my parent's home network.  I have some computers there, and want to try to transfer files between my computer and the one at my parent's.  Over the VPN connection, I only get 128kb/s.  On both ends, they are 15Mbps connections, and can support internal copies of 4 megs/s.  I feel like I should get a better speed than that.  I looked around, and people suggested changing the MTU.  I have changed the MTU around, and not noticed any increase in the network speed over the VPN.  Currently the MTU is at 1500.  Below is a copy of my running config.  Any thing I'm overlooking, or is this speed normal?  Sorry, still relatively new to the ASA 5505.

    Hi,
Another option is the use of the compression command, this is usually enabled by default but maybe you can enter it due to is not showed in the running config, the command is compression svc.
Note: The command helps when we have low bandwitdh connections, the command reduces the size if the packets, for broadband connections this can decrease regular performance

  • Getting slow LTE speeds on 5s

I will notice I'm getting really slow LTE speeds when streaming music on my iphone 5s because rdio, pandora, itunes radio and sirius xm will pause for long periods of time. The short remedy to this is me having to turn on/off airplane mode and it will work as normal for about 10-15 minutes before going really slow again.
Does anyone think this is the LTE on my phone having the issue? I have Verizon with unlimited data.

    Hello there dmaynard83,
It sounds like your LTE speed is lower than expected, but seems ok for a bit if you toggle Airplane mode on then off. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve issues with the cellular data network:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3780
    Restart your iPhone.
Make sure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update: Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update: Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still doesn't, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPhone as new.
    Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Sterling

  • My Network gets slower with time capsule... why?

I Buy a Time Capsule for only for use it as backup HDD in my work but after i install it and configure it the network gets slower but onli with the machines that have the gateway configured, because the machines that dont have internet connection (no gateway and no DHCP only static ip), they are fast as allways
we use Windows Server enterprise 2008 r2 with ADSL connection and terminal server configured and a network domain on it.
and the machines have windows 7 and xp.
I hope someone know why this happened.
    thanks.

And if you don't have luck on the SL forum then I'd recommend posting on the Airport forum. You can find that at:

  • AirPort Express SLOW Wifi speed-Fast with Ethernet?

I am having troubles getting the speeds I’m paying for through Comcast. I am paying to get 105Mbps, but only receiving 61Mbps on average. I don’t expect to get 105, but 90 would make me feel better about what I am paying for.
    Here’s my problem:
I attached my Ethernet cord and receive downloads of 125Mbps. Off the charts! Though, when I disconnect it and use Wifi it drops to 61Mbps. The highest I have receive was 71Mbps.
I pulled up my Wireless Diagnostics and found my rate (of transfer?) is 300 Mbps. On occasion, it does drop to about 220Mbps., but usually sits at 300. My dBm (signal-to-noise ratio) is between 35-40 average. Interference is not the issue as I have moved the computer within 1 foot of the Airport Express and received these stats.
I feel the answer lies within the AirPort Express settings. I feel as if the AirPort Express is limiting the transfer rate somehow. I do know If anyone has any ideas or needs more info to solve this crime, please respond. Thanks for the help ahead of time!
    Adam S.
    iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) running Yosemite 10.10.3
AirPort Express 802.11n (2nd generation) Model No. A1392
Motorola SURFboard®/ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 SB6121 Channel bonding of up to four downstream
channels and four upstream channels increasing data rates to well over 100 Mbps in each direction

Supports IPv4 and IPv6 to expand
network addressing capabilities

Four times the current maximum user data throughput approximating 172 Mbps.

I don’t expect to get 105, but 90 would make me feel better about what I am paying for.
90 would be miraculous for an Internet connection through the WAN port on the Express for a wireless broadcast, even if the wireless device was close to the Express. Take a look at recents tests of the Express:
    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/bar/113-5-ghz-dn-c
40 Mbps was top speed for 2.4 GHz
42 Mbps was top speed for 5 GHz
If you are getting 60, you are doing very well indeed.....quite a bit above average for an Express
I checked my 2nd Gen Express again and on a 100 Mbps Internet connection, I got 44 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 45 Mbps at 5 GHz with the laptop located a few feet from the AirPort Express.
If you are doing better than that, I would call it a day.

  • How do I fix the slow transfer speed over USB on my 24" iMac?

I am backing up/cloning with SuperDuper, and running Lion.  The displayed transfer speed never gets past about 20mb per second.  Painfully slow....  Any suggestions?

Actually that's pretty good for USB. USB is slow - there is nothing you can do about it. Firewire always has been faster. Personally, I only use external Firewire drives for cloning or backing up. Even then, if it's a fresh clone, it'll take moe than an hour for 160 GB.
So, I schedule it when I have other things to do and walk away until it's done.

  • How to get slow playback speed with video

Hi. Newbie to the forums. hope you can help.
Can I put a control in flash that allows users to alter the
playback speed of a video clip? I am making a tutorial (with sound)
and I want the students to be able to run the video in slow motion
and then gradually increase the speed as they become more
    confident.
    Any ideas?

Thanks. I checked out the web site, and although it only refers to FCP, I assume "Film Effects" is compatible with FCE HD v3 as well.
    I appreciate the info.

  • NSS2000 - Data transfer speeds over gigabit ethernet

I've just installed a NSS2000 on a gigabit network.  I'm aware that some of the promised features (like support for jumbo frames) are not currently supported by the current firmware (version 1.13).
However, even without jumbo frames, I'm puzzled of why I am seeing data transfer speeds of only 50megabits per second, or about 5% utilization of the 1000Mb/s connection.  I was expecting at least 20% utilization.
Is this another limitation of the current firmware version, or is there a setting somewhere on the NSS2000 which I need to to tweak to increase data transfer speeds?
More background - it is the only significant traffic on the network during test, the ethernet controller driver on my PC is the latest available, and the NSS reports that it is connected at 1000MB/sec.  The unit has two 1.5Tb SATA drives in it, which are configuered as RAID1.
Also - does anyone know when the next firmware version is going to be available, and which of the current known issues it is likely to address?
    thanks
    Graham

I should mention that the volume I am writing to is encrypted - is the answer simply that this is the fastest that the onboard CPU can decrypt the content?
An experiment to an unencrypted volume increased the LAN utilization to around 10% - so an improvement, but still not as high as I had hoped.
    thanks
    Graham

  • NYC/NJ Slow EDGE Speeds?

Anyone in the NYC/NJ area seeing really slow data speeds over the past three days? Really makes the iPhone useless...
    Thanks.

YES. In Manhattan..I couldn't believe it...it took me almost 10 minutes to load Yahoo! last night...I almost wish I had the 3G (but I'm sure I wouldn't have reception then)
Once I put in "Airplane Mode" for about 20 secs then back, big improvement with the Edge speed but the loading lag has happened a lot this week.

  • Advice needed about slow broadband speed

    Hi there,
I was wondering if you could help me. I live in the countryside and wouldn't you guess it, I get slow internet speeds. Obviously I don't expect superfast broadband but I just want to see if there is any other reason to my slow speeds other then my distance from the exchange (which I believe is 4.3Km, a long distance I know).
I am posting my router statistics (BT HomeHub 3) and the BT Wholesale Performance test report. Essentially I am curious whether old wiring or noise on the line is playing an issue. I'm certainly no expert but my home is quite old and I'm not sure when the wiring was installed so I'd really appreciate any advice. I've also just emailed BT Customer support about resetting the IP Profile as it has been extremely slow ever since the outages due to last weeks weather playing havoc. Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

  • Slow Wifi speed when transfering data from USB drive?

    Hello guys,
Am I the only one to get slow WiFi speed when transfering data from USB disks or keys?
This is the new Mac Mini July 2011 (Macmini5,2)
    Intel Core i7, 2.7 Ghz
    8 Go 1333 MHz DDR3
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A2061)
    Thanks
    Nicolas.

    Hello again,
I'm also having this issue when using a Bluetooth Magic Mouse when downloading file. Is it a problem with the firmware or the BUS?
    Anyone have the same issue?
    Thanks
    Nicolas.

  • WLAN getting slower over time.

If I download arch iso from my local server via scp, the connection begins with a speed of 2-3 MB/s, and slows permanently down until it reached 80Kb/s. If I do the same over Fast Ethernet, I get  constant 11.3 MB/s. I have this problem on my router (701V) as well as on my accesspoint (WL0110), with wicd as well as with networkmanager. Hence I guess it is a driver problem.
I dont have any clue on how to solve this problem. Here some Info. Please ask if you need more.

This is what I believe is happening.  I don't see what I might not be freeing.  I remove all event listeners and remove the TextFields from the display list.  Is there anything else I need to do?
Currently I am displaying the frame rate.  I see a frame rate starting at 30 and going down to 8 after several hours.
I also just started to display the memory:
    tf.text = Number( System.totalMemory / 1024 / 1024 ).toFixed( 2 ) +' Mb';
I am interested to see if when the FPS goes down to < 10, if the memory is much larger.
Are there any tools that might help debug what might be happening?
