I get the error message in Firefox 5 "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."
Hello Firefox support. I just started working on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine running Firefox 5 and am constantly getting the following Sync error: "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action." I can't find an accurate solution on the web. Please help!
Exact same error message here here. Haven't checked our other systems. This one is:
* Firefox 5
* Canonical 1
* Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS

I keep getting "Sync encountered an error while syncing: unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action." It keeps popping up at the bottom of my screen? I click "Sync Now" but a few seconds later it pops up again
does anyone have an answer for this problem?

Hi,
I want to switch from Chrome to Firefox but I have an issue with the Sync feature.
It always shows the following error: "Sync encoutered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."
I already tried this workaround but it did not work: delete my Sync account, completely reset my Firefox profile, import my Chrome bookmarks (using an HTML file), setup a new Sync account (using the same address email then the previously deleted one).
But I still get the error message.
I've seen in other threads that it could be an issue with the history so I also tried to delete it but it did not work either.
Here is my last sync-log file: https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8219943
Thanks for your help.I've finally found a solution to that Sync issue:
I downloaded the "Places Maintenance" add-on and run the integrity check routine and it seems to have fixed the issue.

Just started last night when I switched to the new sync. Any ideas?That is a problem with the history:
<pre><nowiki>1420672321846 Sync.Engine.History DEBUG First sync, uploading all items
1420672321848 Sync.Status DEBUG Status for engine history: error.engine.reason.unknown_fail
1420672321848 Sync.Status DEBUG Status.service: success.status_ok => error.sync.failed_partial
1420672321848 Sync.ErrorHandler DEBUG history failed: database disk image is malformed No traceback available</nowiki></pre>
You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Simply: Firefox Sync doesn't work after upgrade to 5.0.
You can have a try, unmark the Tabs in Sync of Preferences.

I have firefox 5.
It looks like your data is corrupted. Take a look to this articles and try to reset the information in your account: [[Replace your Sync information]]

19:39:11 PDT --- Well, this is embarrassing. It looks like one of our
servers was down and for whatever reason we didn't notice.
It should be working now. If you still see errors, please reopen this bug.

Help!
I have FF at two locations, at home and at work, first I created FF at home and change the device name to home, then I copied it to a flash memory stick as a portable FF, at work I have changed the device name to Work. is that makes any sense with that issue ?

Nothing syncs, and the message bar is really annoying. Here is the sync log: http://pastebin.mozilla.org/8737439
Note: I just tried deleting and re-creating my Sync account, reinstalling firefox, and deleting places.sqlite, with no success. And "Eooro" from the title is supposed to be "Error".

Hi, i have just recently started having an issue with Sync on my desktop. My associated Android and Mac Laptop do not experience any issues when attempting to sync, but the desktop constantly gives the same error. I have tried unpairing the desktop, clearing all files, restarting and then adding the desktop to sync once again, but the error persists.
All of the bookmarks on the desktop have vanished, but are still in my sync data and have no problems being viewed on the other paired devices. This also tells me that the issue isn't the sync server and is something unique to the desktop machine.
I am hoping that this won't require a reinstall, but if all else fails, it is an option. I will try to attach a log file once i have submitted the question.I agree. Too many issues lately with sync errors and flash crashes. I'm going back to Google Chrome for a few months. Don't have time to be bothered with the nonsense and slow fixes.

"Sync encountered''' an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action" - this error message keeps popping up whenever I am on my email accounts. I hit the "Sync Now" icon, but it comes back after a while.
Note: I just tried deleting and re-creating my Sync account, reinstalling firefox, and deleting places.sqlite, with no success. And "Eooro" from the title is supposed to be "Error".

I'm having this problem since few releases ago, whenever I start FF, it always fails to sync, showing this line on the bottom "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Incorrect account name or password. Sync will automatically retry this action". First thought that the prob was incorrect credentials, but I can freely log-in https://account.services.mozilla.com I tried unlinking and linking my device again, it still happens.
I waited thinking that they'll fix this, from a release to another, today updated to the last version and it still happened.

Awaiting reply,
Thanks.I am having this problem with FF 19.0.2 on Win 7 Pro. The sequence of events is:
1. Start Firefox. Get the error bar about incorrect account name or password EVERY time. I close the bar. If I wait a while and then ask FF to try again the error bar reappears.
2. Click on preferences from the bar, and get a dialog "Your password was rejected by the server, please update your password." I click "update" and then am prompted for the master password for the security device. I enter that and am presented with an "update password" dialog.
3. Enter my old password and click "update password." Receive error message "Password incorrect, please try again." I click update again and get the message "Your password has been changed."
4. However now Sync no longer seems to be set up. I go through the setup ritual again, and find I am back where I started.
I have cleared cookies, tried everything in safe mode, and unlinked and relinked the computer. I have verified I have the right password entered at [https://account.services.mozilla.com/ https://account.services.mozilla.com/] None of this helped. The problem is still there, even in safe mode. -
Missing "7-Zip File"
Hello,
I haven't been able to update Firefox since 10.01 or 10.02 because every time I try I get the same message the "7-ZIP File" is missing. Then the update fails. I've submitted this problem to Mozilla Firefox and, got an immediate reply of " they are researching your problem".
Well, you can tell how long that has been. Is there anything I can do, or any where I can go to get the file I need?
Any constructive help would be very much appreciated! I'm not sure If I'll ever be able to find where this is located. But I do appreciate help just the same.It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
Disable your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes installing work.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 11.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

the message:" Mozilla Firefox plugin-container has stopped working properly" appears regularly in my maintenance center. I am on Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.17
I had the same type of failure. It was caused by a FF upgrade from V4 to V9.1. Dearing 1955 did not say what version caused the problem. My USB ports started acting up. I could not install the Webcam that was installed before. The HP Scanner of my OJ 8500 stopped working (USB). Did get it to work via Wireless. Removing FF did not clear the problem. Believe I have infected USB driver now.
