I get the message:s IPOD cannot be used because pple Mobile Device service is not started.  The IPOD does not show under Devices

When attempting to connect my IPOD touch to Itunes I get the message:  IPOD cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started.  Also, the IPOD is not shown as a device.
